Jeff "hero" Mettetal has quit Evil Geniuses and competitive play, stating that he does not have the drive and passion as he used too.

As some of you may have noticed via several forums posts, Thomas "thoMz" Garcia was recently added to Evil Geniuses ESEA team page.

Evil Geniuses will this weekend attend the WCG Pan American Championship and with the lineups being provided to HLTV.org by the organizers, it was revealed that Garcia will be with EG in São Paulo.

In a forum post on ESEA, with the topic "herotowN", Jeff "hero" Mettetal went on to comment:

"I quit cs. Don't have the drive/passion that I used to. Wish my boys the best of luck"

Question is if Garcia is just a temporary solution for Evil Geniuses or should he be a new permanent fifth? Stay tuned as we are awaiting an official statement from the organization.

I like how EG cut fRoD to recruit hero (which was obviously a terrible move) and then hero fucked them over in the end haha. At this point they need to get rid of Irukandji who has been conclusively proven to be terrible in-game leader and recruit anyone ranging from steno (#1 option) to just someone who can pick up leading a team and learn how to call strats.

Frod wasn't cut to put hero on the team. Frod was cut because the others weren't getting along with him, and the team went months without practicing. They pugged the beginning of last esea season and didn't go to a lan for a long stretch of time as a result.

every team that ever had hero, then lost hero, was always worse afterwards. hero was never worse than evolution, steno, or fRoD as far as attitude goes, so it just sounds like youre on the bandwagon for the reasons you seem to dislike him. truth is that he has a real life, which he's tried to balance in order to play cs. this never works, and unless you have the ability to focus on the game and your team for years without distraction, you'll never play to your full potential. as great as hero was, it was never going to work with him. they picked him up for a reason though, which is because he's more valuable than most players in NA. tough luck.

Bit of a misleading title, isn't it? I mean, when minet quit cs the title was "minet puts an end to his career". But when Hero does the same, it just states that he quit his current team, leaving one to think there were internal issues or something behind it. Oh well...I guess that's journalism :p

On the internal issues thing, EG has a history of cutting players and saying they've retired: --they cut gfn when coL died to get dboorn and said he retired --they cut lurppis after disagreements with frod and said he wanted to go home/his visa was expiring considering the sad results at their last lan, it wouldn't surprise me if they decided hero had to go and are using this as an excuse. also, the title makes some sense for the fact hero said he was retiring after coL died, and here he came back to play with EG. these days for big players 'retiring' seems to mean getting cut and not looking for another team right away. there isn't much finality to it in a lot of cases--not every case, but many.

gfn was planning to leave in December at first and all of us actually ASKED him to stay till the end of the year because we felt like we finally made things click with that team. gfn plays HoN for fun as well as the occasional scrim, but I don't think he has played even three league matches in the past year even thought he's usually on some team's roster as a backup. He has a real job these days which keeps him busy. PS. I<3Ediz if that wasn't obvious from the text

This has been said a million times so lets make it #1,000,001: 1) gfn was NOT cut (and neither was Warden). We all wanted him to stay, but he chose to quit early due to real life stuff. 2) I never hid the fact that I was cut from the team due to disagreements, they simply had the press release say "released" which seems to be the standard in eSports. I said in all the interviews me and fRoD didn't get along which caused it. 3) I know for a fact hero quit on his own, he was not cut. 4) As far as retiring goes, hardly anyone ever says they "retired", they simply said they're not going to play right now, which news sites take as "retired". After Crack Clan died every news site posted news saying I "retired" even though what I really said was I can't think of a team I would want to play for, so I don't think I will play anymore. Obviously I had no idea EG would ask me to join, hence my return after "retiring".

skill wise EG has probably the most talent filled roster in NA, n0thing, pauLy, and dboorn are all crazy fraggers. thoMz was an outstanding fragger when he used to play actively, so i can still see them winning WCG Pan-AM if they just hit shots

I think people are saying, or at least when I agreed to some of the lineups above I was saying, the best chance for a North American team to do well internationally would be a combination of players from FG and EG. I definitely DON'T hope FG changes its lineup, as IMO they're the most interesting N.A. team to watch play.

actually, its just front-running at its finest. nobody cared about semphis, swag, or sgares until they had a great season and put up a great fight against EG at the finals. when i say nobody cared about those guys, i mean that nobody would have put semphis or swag on a dreamteam lineup, and not too many would consider sgares the #2 awp in the US, which seems to be the case now. every time a player has a good performance against EG, usually at the ESEA LAN finals, everybody wants EG to pick that player up. they can't stand for talent to be spread out, and if they could have 10 players on the EG roster instead of 5, they would. just so EG would stop losing.

I agree about swag, and I disagreed above with someone in -iwnl- who said he should be on EG. IMO a team like FG is perfect for him right now, one with talent, decent experience, and motivation to win, to allow him to improve to the level of his aim the other aspects of being good at cs. As for sgares, he's had a bit of a fan club for at least three seasons of esea now. I don't know he was considered second awp behind frod that whole time, but he's had good seasons and good lan finals for awhile now, so I don't think he's some new hotness. Semphis might be, though. That's not take anything away from how he's been playing, but he looked dramatically better last season than in previous ones. I definitely would not have said he should be on an N.A. dream team before last season, but I would like to see him play against international teams now.
