IGC apply for bank guarantee

According to a message on Twitter, India Gaming Carnival organizers have applied for a bank guarantee.

The move comes amid the public voicing their concern about the legitimacy of the event on various gaming-related forums. Many are doubting their ability to pay the announced prize purse.

Bank guarantees are not too common in the world of Counter-Strike. One of the first events that did it was shgOpen in 2007, followed by ESWC and the brand's new owners in 2010.

Hoping to fend of criticism, the India Gaming Carnival organizers now follow suit and have applied for a bank guarantee, according to their official Twitter account

India Gaming Carnival has been announced to take place between April 6-8, with $40,000 put into Counter-Strike's prize fund. In total, the event boasts a stunning $300,000 prize pool.

I know that India is big country, but i don't think that will be 200 clans, its maybe just my opinion but i think that there wont be 64 teams, i don't know why but i think that.

Na´vi dont have a LoL team, according to their website -nor updates on facebook navi-gaming.com/content.php?page=team&a... *Edit: I will take that back, just saw on their facebook site, that they indeed had a LoL squad. However, the prizes are very low at CPH Games, when looking at the LoL part. So dont count on it :)

Be great if it could happen, still the date sucks as it will just make for two mediocre tournaments. honestly from a spectator point of view it would be better to see this fall through so we can watch all the best teams at cph if this goes ahead it will just split the best teams up. Good for CS though.

I think it will be a split, once two or three top teams rego for CPH the others would probably prefer to go to india where there is more prize money on offer and would be easier to win. Likewise the reverse is also true.

It's been announced, it could still be a lie to make teams register, book their flights and force them to come. The event is very close from now, they have to hurry up or teams won't trust them and the event will be a total failure

Not if you put it like that, but looking at the possibly disastrous outcome it could be a good idea. I don't know how much they rely on the professionalism in the teams prior to the event.

Good news.. However, the rules for the counter strike tournament are sooo confusing and unclear. Here have a look : "Round 1 Teams will play a race to 9 format wherein out of 16 matches the first one to reach 9 wins will be declared the winner of the round. Losing team has following options: If this is the first loss of the team: Declare defeat and opt out of the tournament. Compete with another team as a part of a double elimination format. Team will compete against the teams who have lost their first round" Then again it says the whole format even reaching semi-finals is still a race to 9.. I mean wtf? Can you explain this to us please?! source : wtf-igc.com/portfolio-view/cs-1/

I have never seen a tournament format that consisted of a race to 9 format. If you go on reading the whole tournament rules on the website.. It's just a big question mark :/ .. Race to 9 really? teams travelling from across the globe to play 9 rounds? Edit : Even semis are race to 9 =))

Why do you insist on defending these rules? I get you're Indian and you're defending the event itself.. I myself want it to work so bad as well, I really wanna go so bad but with such format I really doubt it.. Anyway here you go: Daily Quarter / Semi and Final Rounds KO/Single Elimination Mode. Race to 9 format. Teams play 16 matches against each other the team to score 9 wins first is declared winner of the round.

Dude the semis you are talking about are the daily semis. The actual semis will go like this 3.1.4 Stage 4: Super Six Finals (6 teams, Winner and runner up from the daily pool) Each day winners of the 1st and 2nd position will go on to compete with each other on day 3 of the event in the final showdown. Super Six will pit teams against each other; wherein each winning team will get 2 points for winning a match and 1 point for losing. Once all the teams have faced each other, the top two scoring teams will have a finale match which will decide the winner and a runner up team. Teams play 30 matches against each other the team to score 16 wins first is declared winner of the round and score 2 points.

what they meant is since there will be lots of teams participating and most of them will be no namer noobs, the 1st round will consist of only 9 rounds to save time .. more like filtering the crap from finer teams...

yes i know , you know and I know. what I try to say is that this site info: wtf-igc.com/portfolio-view/cs-1/ is potentially confusing read down to point paragraph 3.1.1 and 3.1.2 and onwards you can read "teams will play a race to 9 matches format wherein out of 16 matches the first one to reach 9 matches wins" it sounded like they mean bo9 not bo3, thats all i try to point my finger on, nothing special. first i was confused, but now i understand what they REALLY MEANT TO SAY and everything is ok, world order is restored :/

Basically I like to see esports grow everywhere, and especially in countries like india / pakistan. But facts are that running two big events at the same time, and targetting the same game and teams - just doesnt work. Copenhagen Games is to be held for the third time. Dates, agreements etc. with the City of Copenhagen, the venue etc. has been fixed until 2014 - so we wont be able to move anything. I think it is probably the same situation for the indian event. Too bad when to very good efforts have to compete in this way - would have preferred to do some kind of cooperation instead.

Exactly. Its too bad. On the other hand, with more and more events emerging around the world, all aiming for global gaming at a competetive level - this will probably and unfortunately happen more often in future.

Haha. I would rebut that the "business" of holding competitions for computer games is a dead end to start with. However with that being said. I was talking about guarantees in this hobby as a whole. They shouldn't be news, they should be exactly what they are. A guarantee, an unwritten expectation that is met by all parties involved.

it's just moronic to make the IGC the same day as CPH (which booked months and months in advance) If you are the 'new' event, it's your responsibility to check the dates of existing events, if you want to compete. Especially since there is always an element of 'doubt' being the 'new event'. Not to mention EU teams can travel to DK for like a 10th of the cost to travel to India.

I dont think that just because SK and ESC dont attend this carnival that will make it a flop.Teams like fnatic NAVI winfakt and other european teams would be more interested in attending IGC rather then CPH cause the other top teams are anyways attending CPH games. Thus the competetion at IGC would be much less for them. Also we are just talking about cs 1.6 here.. there are dozens and dozens of games at the carnival and it would not affect the organizers a bit if teams like SK ESC dont show up,yes ofcourse we wont get to see players like GTR trace neo forest in action but otherwise it wont affect the carnival in any way. I also think teams from china korea would show for this carnival. Just wait for some more days , after they issue a bank guarantee there would be a rush of international teams getting registered Good job IGC!!!

To the IGC admin - You really need to focus on the cs 1.6 rules. The only reason now i see that some international teams wont show up is your 9 round format. You really need to change it for the better. There is always a chance that even a team like fnatic could lose out to some mediocre team in a race to 9 format. They would never risk travelling so much just to play 9 rounds in a best of 1 map to qualify further. It does not make sense.I know there will be like tons of indian clans getting registered and it wont affect you organizers if teams like fnatic or navi dont show up(money wise) but to set a mark in esports and to grab international attention you need BIG names.I mean even local teams like ATE could lose out cause of this silly rule.

Please do a qualifier for Indian teams as there will be hundreds of teams coming in and most of them would be noob teams. Top 10(or watever) teams from the qualifier qualify for the IGC final tourney against rest of the International teams.

Guys please understand this... The rules are fixed - this is an IGC format and not any other tourney's format, we will give a fair chance of play to anyone and everyone and not just favor teams coming from abroad. Race to 9 Is for prelims only, the Super Six will be played on race to 16. Why is everyone so scared to experiment ? The dates are fixed, we had done a great deal of homework before picking up the dates. Its a "Good Friday" weekend so its 3 days off. It works well for people with jobs... Besides that it takes a considerable amount of effort and planning to execute anything. This is like asking to postpone the Olympics because we have our national football championship that clashes with the dates. (not being derogatory towards anyone... just giving an example) Rocky & Piyush... its easy being an armchair expert, tough to get up and actually do things. If you think the formats that you are talking about are right for a country like India where gaming is still in the nascent stage. I invite you to go ahead and do those formats... we will gladly help and participate in those tournaments. For the first time we are giving Indian Gamers the chance to take up gaming as a profession and everyone deserves a fair chance. Start looking at the bigger picture guys... its way bigger than you think it is.
