ESEA returns to Europe

Some of you might remember the times where ESEA expanded to Europe. Well that was five years ago, but now ESEA takes another shot at the European scene.

While the European scene has mainly been witnessing what ESEA have been doing with their league on the other side of the pond, ESEA is now moving their platform to Europe, starting with the Nordics and Germany.

ESEA Europe will be focused on whatever version of Counter-Strike you desire to play. Currently ESEA has just blown the horn that they are coming, as they are translating their anti-cheat client, game servers and their website to fit the European market, as well as setting up deals with European datacenters.

ESEA League to Europe?

In the announcement it's stated that they expect to be operational by the end of August the latest and will be bringing more announcements over the next weeks.

Exactly, it's all dependant on what YOU guys want to see. With almost 0 major CS 1.6 tournaments left now all of you should let ESEA know which CS you really want to see played rather than something else shoved down your throat. ESEA LAN featuring America vs Europe in CS 1.6? Swag vs f0rest? :)?

Smart business move. Is Levine still in charge? If ESEA play their cards right they can win over a large audience share especially with the thousands of potential customers currently stuck between various decisions (Switching to GO, Sticking with 1.6, Sticking with CSS).

how do you know that? still can't play csp in na esea can you? edit: actually from reading lpkane's comments on the esea forum post about this, you are 100% wrong. he says the situation is exactly the same, and they won't support csp. here's his post 152 over there: #148 i'll break it down very simply for you: i'm not supporting a game that wants to put me out of business i'm also not supporting a game that gets the community's hopes up, releases something, then waits 8-10 months between revisions and loses any momentum it's gained we're supporting valve games and letting people pick what they want to play, beyond that i have no desire to touch csp

well, if i were in your shoes i wouldnt be so sure. after 1.6 birth valve released cs:cz and cs:s, both of these didnt make 1.6 dead(ed?:D). and there is still lot of people who does everything to keep it alive, so i think we still have some chance:)

well the situation of 1.6 now is a little different compared to 2003-4 and 2005-7. i would never want 1.6 to die out but things arent looking too good so im just tryin to be realistic. CSP isnt a valve production. they are just a bunch of people trying to give 1.6 a better look cause they care. and valve simply dont give a shit about CS. they never have in the past and by the looks of it, they wont in future either. all they care about is Dota 2 right now as it battles LoL for the most watched/played game online!

They have a league. It's something like 3-4 Seasons a year. Each season is 16 matches then playoffs (depending on what league you're in you have a different amount of playoff matches) that are double elimination. And in our highest division the playoffs are @ lan, while open, intermediate and main are all played online. As for LANS they don't host any except the playoff finals. However I'm pretty sure with enough subscribers from the US, south america and europe combined they'll eventually do some lans.

CS 1.6 in USA ESEA has a crazy prize pool this year. If we all jumped on ESEA they could host multie 1.6 events through out the year with huge prize pools and keep the game alive. Of course if everyone is willing to pay the monthly fee to use the service.

im not the best at english but im gonna give it a shot. i dont think they have much left over money from those events they held.. with that prize money and so little spectators / thinking how big the tournement actually is its just not enough. we ALL have to register and play! but that cant happen before it gets to europe. i have been paying for esea since may now. and i kill not very many :D

The spectators don't pay the prize pools for ESEA events that's the best part. The registration fee for the team league is all thrown into a pot and distributed from top league which is invite to the bottom league which is open.

The comparison between the free gathers and the full ESEA client/league etc is a joke. There's a reason so many people are excited about this right now.

The AC is known to be top of line. And not just because they say it is. Anytime someone is truly suspect to cheating on ESEA in the US, they're banned. The AC Jaguar makes is incredible. The online league is a full season that's incredibly interactive. Spans across multiple skill level divisions and is flows nicely. Two matches a week over an 8 week regular season and THEN playoffs. There's about 4 seasons a year so it never takes too long of a break. And when it does ESEA hosts full tourneys in the off season, as well as mini tourneys for fun (with prizes) during the regular season. And there's a prize for basically everything if you play hard enough. Pugs reward gaming gear, computer parts etc. And no offense, the ESL website is a mess. ESEA is very clean cut and easy to navigate. And it's not JUST the PUGS (gathers) and league play. You can scrim all the time as well with your team and what not. And then there's the full stat system that calculates a ton of things (albeit sometimes it messes up on clutch rounds, that's nothing anyone cares too much for). Including damage per round, frags per round, multi kill counts, assists, bomb plants, defuses, headshot percentage, clutches, etc. I mean if you have specific questions I suppose that would be easier to answer. I'm going a bit here and there.

Great news! I have been a paid member of ESEA for years now even before they went to league play. A good thing about ESEA is they are pretty involved with the community. They are always holding polls and for the most part stick to the results of the polls. Another good thing about ESEA is while it might be a drag to pay each month for a subscription, that money benefits the community. Tourneys are dropping out because they don't have sponsors to front the money. Less people spectate matches which means sponsors don't want to put in money and advertisements. Since you pay a fee, that money goes towards league winnings and also possible tourneys. I could be wrong, but I really believe if they get enough subscribers and attention in Europe as they do in the US they will hold annual events with good prize pools. Remember lpkane and torbull have extensive backgrounds and roots in 1.6. They are in the business to make money, but they enjoy 1.6 just as much as the next person. I am hoping for the best.

last time they setup in europe, esea was free as a trial and many players played on esea servers but then when they started charging europe to play in the servers, no one wanted to play anoymore and it quickly died out.

If I recall, the main reason why ESEA wont take CSP is because they have some kind of grudge about them in the past. In the beginning they supported each other, however one day I heard that the CSP team wanted to create their own subscription based business that was similar to ESEA and ESEA saw them as a threat. So I guess that's the reason why they dropped the game. I wonder if it's still the same now though. I think it would be best if they work together.

Unfortunetely, CS:P is pretty much dead. If ESEA pick it up, it would be a light at the end of the tunnel, but as it stands, there's not too much hope. It's sad to see a nice effort go down the drain, but they're a couple years late. The only I see CS:P picking up the pace is if the devs poured some money into the scene (a welcome tournament with a nice prize system). I believe ESEA will pick up 1.6 and GO and go from there. It's smart to carry 1.6 to its death bed and see its last breath, and somehow, make the transition to GO. But, many changes need to happen so that GO can a become a worthy successor to the enthusiastic 1.6 fans!

honestly, ESEA is going to destroy Europe, in the US, 5/6 of the cs players play esea and 1/6 plays off-client. And honestly, US is a lot better than European countries in terms of wealth and so $6.95 is nothing to most of us. Lets face it, ESEA needs a beginning and honestly, ESEA is not worth it. Say bye to CS 1.6 for good.

salary-wise there is not a huge different between the us and uk/germany/netherlands/france/sweden/switzerland/etc. you can buy like 2 beers for 7$ or play ESEA all month or both. besides, there isn't really anything like esea in europe. playzone etc are limited to sweden and gather-network is pretty bad.

in the times when I was still active I can remember playing ESEA in Europe. I must admit, ESEA is LOTS OF FUN. it's fast (you can join a server and play a match in minutes), it's esea (did you see what I did there?) and it's not polluted with cheaters (very decent anti-cheat). for a small monthly contribution you can play ESEA as much as you want. besides, it's the last shot to keep CS alive. I'm sure most of the money you will pay will come right back in terms of prizes. I'd say, take this opportunity. Massively start playing and promoting ESEA. I'm in no way affiliated with ESEA, I'm retired and living in China but I know this is probably the best chance to keep CS alive.

esea should never have left europe, they were doing great but they were trying to go a bit too fast with expanding to all the other countries. a word of advice to esea. use the same approach as you did 5 years ago. start giving out vip to pro players again and give them some incentives to play on esea, the current play4money cups etc are quite unprofessional. esea can do this much better. besides, all the players both pro and amateurs are scattered all over europe. it's important to re-unite them so servers are crowded. I'd say have some french servers to appeal to portugal/spain/france (still a huge market) and some german servers to appeal to all other parts of europe. then possibly a few swedish servers to appeal to the scandinavian and russian scene. my old account is still present: play.esea.net/users/242364

Well. I was approached by Torbull 2008 and there was an invitechannel at QuakeNet held by Torbull. #esportsea was the channel named, and I was one of the players to be invited to an introduction of what ESEA is. play.esea.net/users/343944 During that 2008 Torbull went around in Europe and asking topgamers to register and get premium access. I wonder if he'll do that again :D

I think this is the chance for CSP to get promoted to a larger community and it's up to us whether we're ready or not. Despite my love for 1.6 but I still doubt it would get any better than this in the future while CSP got a better chance to continue the legacy of CS in long-term. It would fun to see and keep 1.6 alive for a moment, but we must realize that the "dying state" of 1.6 is inevitable and CSP have a better future than 1.6. So please whatever your choice, choose wisely.

bad move about select Germany and Nordic. In europe the CS 1.6 focus is now in east. Poland, Russia, Balkans, Ukraine...

I think the owner of ESEA refused to support CSP because it would ruin ESEA, so yea it's either 1.6 or Global offensive.

Because they would rather sponsor a game developped by a compagny such as Valve, rather than a game favoured by fans.

no, its because the makers of CSP have stated that they want to create their own version of a pick up game system with anticheat similar to ESEA in essence CSP wants to compete with ESEA, which is why lpkane doesnt want to support them get your facts straight

:( at least we will can choose between ESL and ESEA... Right now we only can play at esl or mixes/praccs from IRC, and with the cronyism in the esl and the "magic" retrys and pc crash of the people at IRC is almost impossible to play a fair and fun game...
