CSP 1.09 to be released Sunday

The CSPromod developer team has announced that the much-anticipated 1.09 beta version will be available on Sunday.

The newest version of CSPromod was initially supposed to be released by the end of the August, right after CS:Global Offensive hit the shelves, but the developer team remained silent on the matter.

Some of the updates in the new version include a jump speed limit which mimics that of 1.6, a deathmatch game mode for the servers and fixed player animations.

One of the biggest complaints that the CSPromod project has received from the community has been the slow pace at which new updates are coming out. 1.09 will be available for download almost 15 months after 1.08 saw the light of day.

However, it has now been revealed that the project has found some sort of support, which will allow the developers "to go from entirely volunteer to mostly full-time in the near future."

Without the support of Valve, though, it remains to be seen whether CSPromod will be able to overthrow CS:GO, which has been adopted by most major international competitions just four months after its release.

Below you can find the official update log for 1.09:

How are exactly they going to do the 'boom' to attract the non 1.6 or non HLTV players? Just curious, though.

"they " dont need to do anything except doping the part they are doing now, creating a awesome gameplay. Then everybody will wanna be were everybodys at, and when all the fps people go crazy in the CSP servers, it will snowball from there only a timetraveler could tell exactly the success of csp, but its worty of a chance, and so am I worthy of another gam,e than csgo ;p

It wont snowball into anything... If people want to play 1.6 they play 1.6. This marginal graphical update isnt going to get tournaments thrown at it, and its also only going to get the 1.6 community which clearly isnt enough any more. 1.6 Still has more players than GO yet it gets no tournaments, if this game had a hope in hell of reviving the tournament scene and taking it away from GO then it would need to be pulling dota2 like numbers which it wont.

Well that's really not true, CS:GO was a hugely marketed thing that carried a Valve approved branding. CSP has no affiliation with Valve and CS has really started dawning into a more casual gamer thing, considering it's to the point where people, on HLTV.org, are excommunicating CS:GO saying it's poop, when it's honestly not that much of a bad game. And CSP has almost no major marketing and much like GoMeZ said in another post "it'll come in, then in 6 weeks people will forget about it for another 10 or so months". Don't know his exact quote as I can't find it, but he's pretty much right.

dude if you ever played CSP, you'd know you're wrong. CSP is the game that is the closest to 1.6. It was damn close to it on the beta 1.09 weekend and it will definitely be even closer now. Everyone who enjoyed playing 1.6 more than CSGO will enjoy CSP. All we (and when I say we I mean these people who enjoyed CS 1.6 more than CSGO) can hope for is that major tournaments include CSP in the future with at least similar prize money to those of CSGO, so it could be a viable choice for pros to target CSP as their main game. This is the only thing that can make CSP live. I'd bet 100 pounds to quote your words that f0rest and GeT_RiGhT will try out the new CSP release, and if they enjoy it and CSP is picked up by tournaments, they'll switch to it if they can find more enjoyment in CSP than CSGO. Btw, the fact that NiP is unbeaten to this day in CSGO might as much work as a pro and a con to them switching to CSP. For the simple reason that 1. They are easily winning money in CSGO. 2. They might not be the number 1 in CSP, since there would be way more competition if fnatic, Na'Vi and ESC were to switch to CSP too. So at this point, there's no reasonable point to bet on CSP's future.

Your post is terrible. 1. Yes. CSP is very close to 1.6, but we know that 1.6 isnt the game of choice anymore, tournaments dont want it and new players dont care for it. 2. I will take your bet, because they wont try it because they have no reason to try it unless some multi millionaire dumped a large tournament on it, which wont happen. 3. Your two points are horrible, NiP has a reason to switch to CSP because they are winning easy money?? oh god.... and 2. competition would only happen if tournaments happen, which they wont, because they arent happening in 1.6 so why would they happen in a game that will have less players than 1.6 that plays out exactly the same way. The simple fact is that no one will play this game unless it picks up a lot of tournaments, but 1.6 hasnt picked up any tournaments so why would a reincarnation of the same game all of a sudden do so? If the game doesnt pick up tournaments, it doesnt pick up players. It's that simple.

I don' see why you say it won't be picked up by tournaments. CS 1.6 didn't die because of the lack of players, it died because of the lack of sponsors. Sponsors weren't interested in a game that required a 2005 computer to run. CSGO and CSP both require a strong computer. This means it will be equally interesting for sponsors and thus if tournaments pick them up, sponsors will follow.

That is assumption not fact. Never has a sponsor said graphics is a reason for giving or not giving sponsorship to a certain game. Sponsors dont care for what the game can run. Even Carmac said this. This is fact, and i think he would know a lot more than you or i on this topic with his involvement in arguably one of the biggest and best tournaments ever. The only thing they care about his how many viewers they are going to be getting.

Well so you think CSGO gets more viewer than CS 1.6 had in his last months? No, and that is a fact too. And yes it has been said many times that sponsors were more interested in supporting games that required strong computers.

It probably did actually, the ESWC female final alone had over 10k watching, plus all CS GO tourneys thus far have allowed people go tv, all the last 1.6 tourneys had only streams for the finals etc. So GO is close to if not exactly the same as 1.6 was near the end. But the biggest reason GO is getting tourneys atm is because its a different game. people are giving it a chance to get bigger etc. Wont happen with a game that they have already turned their back on. CSP is 1.6, there is no difference. Furthermore now that CSGO is out and getting tourneys every week others will just follow suit and not even consider CSP, maybe CSP had a chance if it was fully released a year or two ago, GO it is now. Just wait and see, you will see im right and CSP will go no where.

Well CS 1.6 mostly had HLTVs for the finals too in the end, but it seems you're only referring to ESL which did not allow HLTVs. And if you agree CSGO is close or at most equal to 1.6's viewers count, then I don't see why you quote this as a reason to CSGO's "success", since it didn't help 1.6 live longer. Btw ESL's Carmac said the viewer count of CS 1.6 wasn't that much of a problem, it was more the fact that CS 1.6 was alive only in some regions of the globe like Europe and not in USA. CSGO is far from a success right now and CSP definitely still have a chance.

I never said CS GO was a 'success'... It's doing ok but its far from a success all ive been saying the whole time is CSP has virtually no chance of going anywhere. And your comment on what Carmac said just helps my argument and not yours. It shows how stale 1.6 has become and CSP being the same thing wont change anything. Why would tournaments do a back-flip and sponsor a game they abandoned. It comes down to a push pull. Players wont play it if there are no tournaments, and tournaments wont pick it up if there are no players.

If I was nVidia/ATI I would probably prefer a game that is slightly more demanding than CS 1.6 to show off my products. No matter what Carmac wants us to believe :) That is for sure not the only explanation for dropping 1.6 and trying to replace it with GO, but denying the obvious is just silly. Nevertheless, GO needs the 1.6 community now. Quite badly I would say, or it's just digging its own grave within a year or so.

It does not make a difference if its similar to 1.6 or not. 1.6ers simply refuse to move to any game. No matter how similar would be to 1.6. End off. I played CSP, and i loved it, therefore its too late for it now.

Too late. How will sponsors ever consider CSP? Unless all the players move to CSP, it will never be anything else than a game people will play to remember the good old days, with better graphics.

I think we both know of that endless discussion, but I for one was supporter of CS:GO, because I like to watch competitive CS. Realistically, you will never see sponsors take a step backwards, and start sponsoring older games, simply because players will fade over time. And that is the reason why I see no future in CSP, competitively, unless the entire player base changes over.

Yeah I know, but I consider CSP an old game, since its based on 1.6, with the source looks. As others have said, if CSP had come out, when the 1.6 tournaments started to thin out, it could have taken the scene by storm. Now its simply too late and it will never have competitive appeal, since all the good players have begun on GO and will have no reason to turn back. :)

It's too late to say that they will take over for sure, not yet too late to say if they'll take over anyway. Btw if you'd followed the forum and news feed of CSP lately (and when I say lately I mean the past year...............) You'd know they improved the graphics A LOT MORE than the source engine was using on CSS (and maybe CSGO). So there no "step backwards. Hardware- (and thus sponsor-)wise CSP will require at least as good a graphic card CSGO requires. The foggy and useless garbage shit not included. Might gain you a few FPS.
2012-12-08 07:04

its absolutly normal that every fps player have high expectation from the game that mimic the most competitive and most succsessfull fps out there, basicly CSP aspire to become a graphique upsate to CS1.6;and that's all the game needs to retrive its rightfull place as number one online game just because the gameplay and the intensity that 1.6 delivers is unique and just like football does not need to be changed.

That may be true, but as I mentioned, it will be a nostalgic game, for the people who played, when 1.6 had its glory. Why would sponsors want to sponsor CSP? It will never evovle, but stay static. The thing is, CSP will be free, which is a great start, just like LoL is free and has a vast player base. However, competitively, LoL is pretty much only funded by the company behind the game. CSP tournaments will not recieve any kind of prize money from the team behind the game. Who will then promote CSP competitively, when sponsors have very little gain, since its an old game with a new look. Furthermore, the player base will fade, since new players will have no reason to play the game, except because its free, since more modern games, like CS:GO are there. Just like you see with CoD and BF games, new players do not play the older games, simply because they are old.

I doubt we'll still be in a 'NiP winning everything' stage 6 months from now. NiP have the advantage of being the first really good players to switch over 100% (Rather then spending that time complaining about it not being a 1.6 clone). This means on the skill and practice front they currently have a huge advantage. However as we can see, over the last months the top teams (VG, ESC, Mouz.uk etc etc) are coming closer and closer to beating NiP. This is what a healthy competitive scene looks like as it's just developing. If anything NiP would be MORE dominate on CSP, as CSP would have a far lower incentive for teams to compete at the highest levels. (In no way will a mod ever compete with a developer funded esport scene.)

NiP domination will last over 1 full year... If you think they have shown all their strats then you fail hard... They are prepared whenn that time comes... Can't you see that if they win by a close score next time a team face them they get almost raped... See their results... That will make the game fall faster than any other version

because GO has a much better chance of being a relevant Esports title than CSP does at this point. especially considering the amount of professional teams that have already put in the time and effort to transition to GO.

"at this point" , what point since it wasn't released? amout of professional teams , not to count the ones who whine that the game is awful , + the amount that would switch + the amount that would want to play it , you have no clue actually of these people so don't say stupid things before you see with your eyes

"At this point" refers to the current state of competitive counter strike as a whole, which is obviously dominated by GO. Which is also considering the failure of any CSP release to be played longer than a couple months before dying off. I agree with you that some of the top players probably complain a lot about GO, but for these players to switch there needs to be a viable incentive. This incentive would most likely need to be multiple high-prize-pool international LANs, which is very unrealistic because any of the companies that would sponsor such events most likely do not even know CSP exists.

While your point is accurate, the power of whether a game is relevant or not sits with one group of people: The community. If CSP could boost great numbers, I'm sure it'd get a chance. I'll be honest too, I've taken a liking to GO lately and I think its improving alot however CSP would undoubtedly be a better game.

Still, does BlackMesa's failure mean that CSP will failure as well for the simple reason both are mods based on the source engine?

Because DotA 1 was a WC3 mod. DotA 2 is just an updated version to fit this generation's graphics. Unlike cs:go, it's nothing like 1.6, just a trash game put together. CSP team did the better job than CSGO and they didn't even get paid to do it, CSGO workers got paid a ton to develop garbage. Imagine what the CSP team could have unfolded with all of that money.

Uhm no? It's Open up the SDK, tweak the spray even worse add a tiny amount of recoil, add cs 1.6 spray pattern. Open up source map maker, take the cs 1.6 maps and add a lot of garbage Open up SDK again, make new models to all the weapons from 1.6 to CS:GO, add a few more weapons that's OP because they don't know the fallout of these weapons Add in classic style weaponview and classic crosshair Make in a new crosshair just for CS:GO Call the game "Counter-Strike" because it will sell a lot, but says it doesn't "relate" to counter-strike

You really think they would be spending such time on making new game if they don't believe it will succeed? This is the best possible time for CSP because the game which community loved so much suddenly just "died". Why is that good? Simple, because community will be looking for something better, something similar to the game they loved. We don't see 1.6 on big tournaments anymore because it became European game, not because only European likes it, because that certainly isn't true; we had many great teams outside of Europe such as EG, WMF, Tyloo, a51, 3D and more, but because they got bored of not being able to play as much as European teams could and not on the same level anymore. New engine should help a lot in order to increase number of players everywhere in the world, and some new commands which can help a lot in enabling online matches between teams from different continents without having lag problems. In my opinion it's ridiculous that game which every guy who touched computer played and surely enjoyed can be dead.

People were probably looking for something better back in June so i dont see why this is the best time at all. Most people left HLTV in june-july because of 1.6 going dead.

I'm sure they'll somehow hear if some new game releases. IMO people are too much into 1.6 that even the CSP, which looks like 1.6 in many ways, wouldn't be enough for them. As the time passes by tensions will become lower and they'll understand it's time to move on. At the same time there's CS:GO which should make CSP bigger than it is in their eyes.

hey lanceV and danko95, The game is free to play, and it is also quick and easy to install. It mimicks the 1.6 gameplay quite well, i'd say give it a try! The 1.6 proscene won't be coming back unfortunately, CSP might be the last shot to revive the CS-scene, so try it out and see if you like it :) It will also only become better, if you have any suggestions, hit up the cspromod.com boards and post them there.

CSPromod offers a lot of things 1.6 doesn't, for example, free to play, better graphics, predicted attacks and a chance for a revived proscene. Also, as stated in the announcement, some very exciting news will be revealed. I'd say give the game a try and see if you like it :)

besically so EU and US can pracc versus eachother. 300 ping would make no difference to 20 ping if enabled.

i hope you know that predicted attacks work only to a certain amount of high ping, I found out that about ~100ms seems to be the limit, after that there are lots of fals death predictions, meaning that you kill somebody and a second later he is alive again because you only killed him in your client

Well yeah, but unlike CSGO, CSP has no limit to predicted attacks. If you play versus US teams, they normally have 150-250 ping, which would really annoying to play on in CSGO. You can have 400 msec pingtime in CSP without feeling any difference. So yeah, reason why US and EU teams ain't praccing vs eachother in CSGO, is because the limit is somewhere around 100. US have alot higher ping than that normally. However regarding the false deaths etc are something Saul is aware of. This will not happen in CSP I think. Not 100% sure. All I know is that they will do alot to prevent it and keep updating it till it works flawlessly.

Source Engine got its limitations, therefore VALVE will do whatever neccesary to interrupt this mod and let CSP get its limitations. Remember, CSP is taking a huge risk because VALVE can just clam down on them and force users into needing CS:S I think that VALVE is aware of the issue, that free-thinkers are out there. So, I'd suggest CSP getting their own engine cause Source base files isn't the proper way of doing it.

I haven't really followed the CSP developments, but what's the difference between CSP and CS 1.6 aside from graphics? Wouldn't the game be doomed to fail (no 'pro' scene) if it's too similar to 1.6? I'm not hating, this is out of genuine curiosity.

DotA 1 didn't exactly fail. Other games got more popular (LoL/HoN) and WC3 started dying off. Mechanics were changed slightly, the game-play is same but there were adjustments to map, skills and other various things. Having said that, if CSP adjusted maps, recoil and movement a little, it'd be a slightly different game but I'm not getting that sense with what 'little I've seen/read'. I'm not very knowledgable about CSP, that's why I'm asking. CSP, to me, looks like it's completely copying 1.6 with improved graphics.

Why change whats perfect? I know that sounds silly, but to me (and many other people) 1.6 recoil and movement are so perfect. There are no limits to it. People invented longjumps. Over the years, people got better at it, they started doing 240 longjumps. Nowadays people reach 257. Countjump, a totally groundbreaking technique back when it got invented, it allows you to jump further than longjumping. 271 units for example. Then people realized you could gain more units by adding more ducks, so people started doing double countjumps and were able to jump over 273 units. Airstrafing. Bhopping. Ladderjumps. The gameplay is really skillbased. What it is missing these daya after 13 years is better graphics.

It also has other improvements (beside better graphics) like fixed bugs (crouch walking doesn't mess up the hit-boxes), 1000 times better netcode, team-mate-money in scoreboard, ... I hope later versions will come with more improvements like integrated esport-content, matchmaking-client, CSPTV and at least 1 completely new map of the dust2's quality.

Yes, this is what I wanted to hear. But @vaMpPpPp No game is perfect, every game can be improved. It seems you enjoyed every aspect of 1.6 but there can still be fixes/improvements. One thing I disliked about 1.6 was the 'wallbanging'. I felt it was too strong especially (for example) on nuke, players would spend a good 30 secs or so spamming though walls every round.

After 1.6, valve simply left CS and stopped stopped supporting it This game will have active support (I hope so) And I support spamming, spamming reduces camped gameplay. Players will not camp in one place in the fear of getting fragged. Gives a more dynamic gameplay Infact, i missed the spamming feature in other games. Hate to see a camper sniping me from one spot and there is nothing I can do (Halo:CE), was out of 'nades though

Hey, this is a part of our wiki: "The objective of CSPromod is to improve the graphical quality, feature set, and spectatorship of Counter-Strike, while preserving the title’s beloved gameplay, and in doing so provide community with the assurance of unlimited gameplay longevity. We view CSPromod as a resource for the community, its professional teams, event organizers, and media. For a long time, all of these entities have voiced their opinions, desires, ideas, and goals about the future of professional Counter-Strike; and for just as long of a time, they have been limited by the constraints of the very same game which brought them all together in the first place. Therefore, we strive to present the most competitive, enthralling, visually satisfying – and most importantly – customizable version of Counter-Strike ever created. We view this project as the community’s own to tweak, polish, and grow. We hope that the community views it in the same vein." So basically, we want to improve everything that isn't gameplay (ofcourse we want to improve gameplay in areas where possible aswell).

Well, that's not because game of CS became boring to you, it seems to me that you got bored of playing rifling games. I also got bored of 1.6 for some time and than I tried dota. After some time dota became boring and guess what I played then? CS, and I guess that's the magic of it. You'll always go back to it. Dunno really, but I think CSP is what we need. It's not that similar to 1.6.

The "new coke" replaced "old coke" last year, and I have to say that the new coke tastes like shit. If you wanted to use comparrisons, you could have used Pepsi as ProMod :P I'm just sayin that now it's too late - csgo has big fanbase, sponsors and most important - tournaments. Mby if people would start playing promod and ignoring csgo, just mby people/players/teams would want to switch. :)

In 1.6, you can control your recoil when running/strafing to be as stabile as when you do it while standing, which is not random at all. In GO, I only see randomness when shooting while strafing. And why do I reply to you instead of that retard Foerester? Because I'm bored of his trolling.

CSGO gets boring fast because you don't find these 'addictive' patterns you are getting when you play 1.6, which are simplicity, great character movements, and weapon recoils. CSP provides them all :)

Enjoy your minecraft FPS and a dwindling community. I LOVE 1.6 but it's time to put it in the history books brother. People like you will kill Counter Strike.

its going to fail hard. Why should I play this game when 1.6 is still there? I mean , promod is a copy of 1.6 right? And 1.6 is failing cause the lack of tournaments/sponsors right? So how promod is going to attract them? And dont tell me to play a game only for fun , if I want to it would be 1.6 and not promod. I dont see any reason why promod is going to rise , especially with CSGO out.

"So how promod is going to attract them?" sponsors don't care about the game, they care about the audience. 1.6 was struggling because no new players started to play this very outdated looking game (which is still not f2p), so the audience became smaller and smaller. and since CS:GO didn't even manage to get an audience as big as the one from 1.6's latest days CS seems to be pretty much doomed. I deeply hope CSP's final version will attract a lot of players, so CS's story will go on. "Why should I play this game when 1.6 is still there? I mean , promod is a copy of 1.6 right?" It's not just a copy, it's even better. Yes, the gameplay mechanics are basically identical at this point and that's a good start for later improvements and additions. Why would you choose the version with the outdated graphics, tons of bugs, a netcode made for 1999's internet-connections and absolutely no support from its developers?

Yeah I totally agree. Unless it can attract tournaments/sponsors ($$), then it's going to fail. Many people on the thread are going to play CSP instead of CS:GO now but what difference is that from before? There are still plenty of people that play 1.6. I am into CS:GO right now but what I truly want is the community to be united in one game, I don't care what game it is TBH. I wish CSP came out earlier rather than now. Btw, why is the term 'saucy kids' used? I play CS:GO yes, but I never even tried source, I came straight from 1.6, albeit a long time ago.

CSP updated graphics. bullet prediction (eu vs us) UI changed new netcode new animations and models The only thing that is copying 1.6 is movement and recoil, which is because the recoil and movement is pure awesome. ;)

bullet prediction (eu vs us) Same like CS:GO has but still no one plays EU vs US and the other way round. Won't change anything in Promod.

Uhh no, CSGO doesn't have that feature. Atleast I doubt that coz it haven't ever been used before, which means Valve should have made it from scratch... Which I doubt. Give me a video link or something..

It still doesn't make any sense. CSP made for competetive play and has 1.6 gameplay and feel with improved graphics and netcode. CSGO wasn't made for competetive play, and still needs alot of updates for that to happen. It is still random as fuck. Who and what gives a shit about what community? =D

Oh shit, my mistake its hltv..so here goes for dummies: the MONEY does not give a shit if u prefer the 1.6 gameplay or the mario from the nintendo.. Improved graphs or not (like source, looks like shit), still not shiny enuff for the sponsors trying to sell high end shit. Go aint random, same team winning lan to lan.. I got nuttin against csp, id like to c it florish but fact is, it wont.

Nice insult man. Going from "no one gives a shit about the community" to "the money does not give a shit about 1.6 gameplay" - yeah, I see that I'm a fucking moron because I didn't figure that one out. Nicely done. Also you are from Finland(?) and we are not living in 1990 anymore where hipster afro american language is cool. GO is pretty random. It is easy to run and spray for example. You can noscope better by ducking. Yes NiP wins alot of tournaments right now, but give it time, the main reason behind that is because of the good head start they got from switching early on. CSS graphics looks like shit indeed, but CSP are improving on CSS graphics. There are pictures of the reworked textures and it looks better than CSGO. Also if sponsors were so much into selling high end shit, why isn't BF3 or Black Ops 2 the #1 eSport game right now? Yeah both games sucks, graphics means shit... Even some sponsors said that themselves if I remember correctly.

Shouldhave edited my post, "no one who matters = money, gives a shit." 1990 hipster afro american language? ROFL just shoot urself k? even a bit racist tbh.. Go aint random, its easy to run n spray in any fps, actually hitting the target while doing so is a different story.. U understand the definition of random? Having a headstart in a random game actually wouldnt matter at all, would it? THINK..think hard.. :) On the bf3 comment, i really dont know..But CSGO aint the #1 either :D

You may leave in a different world then, since noone gives a shit about the community is pretty unrealistic if you remember that the community are the ones to watch the games and the sponsors throw money to the events mainly for the opportunity of showing their products to this community

CS:GO still have so much more complains than CSP. Look at the commentarys. CS:GO have a 20K player community and it's already OK? I don't think so. CS:GO will never be bigger than what it is right now. CSP is a new game. It's more like 1.6 than Source as CS:GO is more like Source than 1.6, simple.

Oh yeah, some terrible changes in the recoil-system, restrictions of the movement and stupid unnecessary changes in those 10 year old maps made CS:GO such a refreshment NOT It just makes me feel like I'm playing a worse version of something I loved. Before all of you gets to excited and finds jizz in your pants. This it what will happen: 1.09 gets released, the "community" aka 15 people reports a shit ton of bugs, CSP team goes out telling everyone it will be fixed, 17 months later 1.1 gets released

Me and my team will definitely be moving over to this, or atleast giving it a damn good shot. No matter how hard we try to like GO, we always end up back on 1.6, laughing at the stupidity of that awful game. CSP may not be popular, but it's a nice change from 1.6, and it's 10X better than CS:GO. Anyone know what IRC channels there are for CSP praccs, and any leagues that will support it?

One thing that crossed my mind, what if CSP 1.09 actually is a good game and gets a decent amount of players, and Valve hits back with a CS:GO updates that fixed all the things that currently is shitty with the game, and anounces a tournament with a decent amount of money, if that happens, will it be the death of CSP?

The guy representing them on various forums (Won't mention names but you all know who i'm talking about) is a piece of shit, prolly the biggest douche around. And they've been way to slow with their updates...I'd even pay for a copy if they managed to update the game more often and create a good game without one millions bugs

And I'm still not a spokesperson for CSP, but i've definitely stayed out of arguments and changed my tone quite a bit since I joined.

no, 1.09 will have the same model as 1.08 (but they made them easier to spot in dark areas). the new models will come with 1.10.

whats the point? CSP is not even near 1.6 if players miss 1.6 they will play cs1.6 not csP. you dont have to split players to 5 different counter strikes. + no sponsors no players

eh, I agree with some that its a little late. I don't get the guys saying the 'graphics are good' as an argument - for a game thats gonna release in 2013 the graphics are pretty effin horrible. If valve feel they have a competitor to CSGO they will start pumping out updates like crazy/pouring money into the scene, so I see a Win-Win either way, being able to play an excellent promod or an improved CSGO.

This is gonna be a start of something wonderful in our beloved team-based fps esport scene. Something that can fill that huge "empty" hole in our heart. Something that will solve and complete all the remaining puzzles in our thoughts. Something we all longed(especially 1.6 community) and patiently wait hoping it will be the only counter-strike version that will bond all players from different community in one game. Well, i guess as of right now, we all can rest assured that every counter-strike community will now have chance and option to transist/switch/change to their beloved game-alike according to individual tastes. Example: 1.6 to CSP 1.6 to CSGO CSS to CSGO CSS to CSP CSGO to CSP and so on :) Like i said everyone has now a fair/equal chances to be switched into a game they like which if they wanted to or not. It depends on personal opinions and liking. For me, I chose CSPromod. It's not because i'm from 1.6 community. It's just a matter of personal liking for me, that is - gameplay. Thanks to CSP for giving us an option to choose your game!

It is because you're from the 1.6 community, as you like the gameplay and csp is exactly the same but with source graphics. There's no reason for a source player to switch to csp...

CS promod is good, only this can replace 1.6, nothing else. I wish all intl teams shift to CS Promod 1.09. Personally i felt this was best- nice clean maps compared to 1.6. The rifles remain same, fast moment- you can preshoot, spam. Nading and flashing remains same.

It's amazing how retarded are some of you. It makes no sense to think that a game like 1.6, with a HUGE history will be replaced by csp, a game with no history, that looks like a steaming pile of shit (that is for 2013) and is designed to be JUST like 1.6. It will atract 0 new players. What sponsor in his right mind will trow money at this? I know that the 1.6 community it's, by definition, a low IQ gathering, a community that managed to kill a game that is the definition of esport, but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, THINK A LITTLE!

I take offense to being "defined" as a low IQ gathering member of a community of the most played FPS of all time with over a decade of competitive and public exposure that continues to be played in huge numbers to this day by those registered on Steam #s and the millions that are not. Wait, you really think CS:GO looks that good? :[

Wait so the actual full game is going to be CSP 1.1? You've all been waiting for CSP 1.09 for the last year, have fun waiting another 1 and a half years for CSP 1.1. Also don't understand how you can say this game will be more suitable for esports when it isn't even a full game yet. NO SPONSORS WILL PICK THIS GAME UP. You're all full of false hope. Get over it.

However, it has now been revealed that the project has found some sort of support, which will allow the developers "to go from entirely volunteer to mostly full-time in the near future."

There can only be events if the game has sponsors. So far the game doenst have any sponsors. And it is also just another beta version. 1.1 will be the final version which will be released in probably 1 year.

I'm more than willing to give this game a chance, as I'm very unsatisfied with CS:GO at the moment. A lot of the changes we want made, Valve just simply ignores. I was a source player and even I don't like CS:GO very much, if CSP is the better game then by all means lets play it and give Valve a huge "FUCK YOU" for ruining the franchise Gooseman made and uniting under another mod.

640 people is nothing.... 5k people is nothing.... compare the amount of people that this game attracts to such games in the spotlight nowadays it will never be as popular. I'm not trying to flame, it makes me sad that we will probably never see another cs in the spotlight maybe untill cs2 or maybe even forever.

Its a dream for those who were just starting out in 1.6 when it went dead aldready. Those who been out for long find cs:go refreshing and new, not the same game again with pretty much nothing changed. Atleast this is the main reason people like csgo, close to 1.6 but still different.

Thats your opinion, I got mine. I found 1.6 boring and very pattered in the last days, same maps with same strats and basis. Now im constantly learning new stuff and getting better in GO what keeps it interesting for me. CS:P for me would be like playing 1.6 with some custom models/remade maps that brings a very little new things. This however might be exactly what some people want, not me anyway.

And what new de_map you got in CS:GO? Not a single one. CS:GO came with the same maps we played for years, they just made some minor changes which made the maps worse than their original version. So basically you just play bad version of the same maps you already played for years. This "refreshing" effect didn't last longer than 1 week in my case, especially because I also played CSS before (CS:GO maps are basically just revamped CSS maps). I'm not tired of CS itself, I'm just tired of playing the same maps over and over again. But I don't want slightly changed versions of these maps, I want some additional and completely new maps of dust2/inferno's quality.

Spot on Jaques ! We needed new maps and overall design, NOT drastic and more realistic change in gameplay. They gave us far inferior gameplay and about 2-3 PLAYABLE maps and they are pretty bad looking too. I respect the fact that they wanted to make a new edition of Counter-Strike. Of course.. But I am baffled by the lack of insight Valve has into why CS 1.6 was such a success. Most 1.6 fans absolute love the hint of "unrealism" the gameplay possesses. The fast peaking/lurking around corners and over boxes, and the way you could momentum jump all over the place and save your butt, in an otherwise hopeless situation. This fast gameplay is what we love, and pretty much makes the game what it is. The drastic change of movement, and overall flow and feel of the game, is basically why Source never really gained the success of its predecessor. (There are of course other factors to consider) Therefor I am AMAZED by the fact, that Valve is continuing to move this way, were the gameplay becomes so much slower and realistic. REALISM was NOT what sold 1.6 copies and skyrocketed the game to be the best online FPS shooter of our time. It is more than okay, and most likely necessary to upgrade the graphics, net coding and so on, to uptodate Counter Strike and make it 2012'ish. But to kill the VERY things that made the previous game so likeable is just ......... suicide. I mean, wasn't Source the perfect indicator? It was apparently not the majority of our CS community that wanted "our" game developed this way. I think the constant domination in steam/player stats, 1.6 > CSS is pretty evident of that. Still they gave it a much more Source like feel, instead of a 1.6 feel.(yes, I know the recoil shit is apparently more 1.6like, say w00t?) For many of us, CS:GO just feels like a juiced up and even slower version of CSS. CSP, may or may not be the neglected and updated Counter-Strike version many of us were looking for. Who knows ? I know this though. The naysayers in this thread, with their Nostradamus-like doomsday predictions are not going to keep me from having my hopes op, that we maybe in the future can create a fun and enjoyable CSP community.

CS:GO in a nutshell for those whom have not played it : Gameplay from the planet Mars, graphics from 2004 [different engine woohoo!], maps from 2004 just a bit more of that incredible addition of garbage everywhere [a bit less in the _se _ve versions] , the list can get longer. So enough said? I don't know about that one.

Interesting, didn't know that the project to mimic 1.6's gameplay was older than cs 1.6

To play CSP you just need to instal csp and then steam will download all necessary files itself.

This will never even come close to CS:GO in terms of a esport. Why? Because CS:GO is a better esport than 1.6, even ignoring graphics. Because how popular a esport is has very little to do with the whiny player base. How popular a esport is depends 100% on how fun, from a none gamer perspective, it is to watch said game. And almost all (I would love to see some kind of bunny hopping added to GO) of the changes CS:GO made act towards this goal: 1: Weapon buffs. In particular the pistol, although the others are also good. In 1.6 eco rounds are basically trash (Outside of some awesome luck). The rebalancing of the weapons have turned these rounds into actual events to be fought over by both sides, where although the side with the AK's have an advantage, those with the weaker weapons can intheory make a comeback. This is more exciting to watch. 2: Reduced tagging + other changes. While most 1.6 players complain like a little girl about these changes, to a none players these changes make the game more exciting to watch. This freedom of movement allows players to be more aggressive and mobile, which in turn makes for more interesting watching experiences for the viewer. 3: Recoil and wallbanging. To a none player (Or even to lower skilled players), the recoil and wall banging in 1.6 seemingly takes less skill than csgo's. Spraying and wallbanging looks less impressive than accurately headshot bursting, regardless of your thoughts on the actual skill required (Personally the aiming system in both require the same amount of skill in different areas.)

"because CS:GO is a better esport than 1.6" So wrong. "How popular a esport is depends 100% on how fun, from a none gamer perspective, it is to watch said game." How popular an esport is depends on 3 factors: A. The game has to be extremely enjoyable to play. 99% of the viewers are people who play the game themself. For someone who never played CS it's fucking boring to watch any matches. So the absolute fundamental thing is to have a game that people enjoy playing. According to the statistics CS:GO terribly failed in this point while CS 1.6 even got a huge player base 13 respectively 10 years after its release. B. It has to offer a high skill ceilling. Games where people play on the almost same level regardless of their talent and experience are completely useless for competition. C. The game has to be enjoyable to watch. Though even 1.6 was terrible to follow, CS:GO is even worse. The lack of details, the easy-to-distinguish-models, the plain maps, the flinching and the impressive headshot-animation made it a lot easier to understand what's going on in 1.6 (compared to GO). I completely disagree with your last two points why CS:GO would be fun to follow: 2. "This freedom of movement"...seriously, what stuff are you smoking? There's absolutely no freedom of movement in CS:GO. From all CS versions out there CS:GO is the one with the most restricted movement. The reduced tagging has absolutely nothing to do with "the freedom of movement" it just makes the game more forgivable. While CS 1.6 was absolutely unforgivable, you can do a mistake in CS:GO and still get away with some HPs - and this without using any skill requiring techniques. There's absolutely no way this would make following the game more interesting. If I want to watch nice running-and-gunning action I watch QL but definitely not CS:GO. 3. While wallbanging is completely skill based in 1.6, this very rare wallbanging that's possible in CS:GO is extremely random. That's a problem of the game itself. Shots which are fired through walls change their direction. That's a problem which already existed in CSS and the CSP devs had to do a lot of work to make wallbanging work correctly on the source engine. "To a none player (Or even to lower skilled players), the recoil and wall banging in 1.6 seemingly takes less skill than csgo's" Like I already said: none-players don't watch esports matches. For people who are already into CS wallbanging is a lot more interesting in 1.6 than GO, just because it's way more important in 1.6 than GO, and that's a fact (remember those millions 1.6 wallbanging videos).

1: CSGO has about the same number of players as 1.6 if you read the report given by valve, just concentrated in 3rd world countries, and sit online all day as they are cyber cafe accounts. (Unless you're going into full retard aids mode and suggesting they're lying for some reason). 2: 99% of all players watching esports either don't play the game, or are casual enough that all of the little tiny things the 1.6 whore kiddies complain about don't effect them or their understanding of the game. The 1.6 whore kiddies are a very small minority of the player base. The only reason esports require a high skill cap isn't for the players, but because it's more fun to watch something if you can tell which side is better at a glance. CSGO far exceeds this requirement. 3: Wallbanging is very rarely used in 1.6 in a skillful manner. 9 times out of 10 wallbanging is nothing more than 'spamming a predetermined stop for a predetermined location'. Sure it's a memory 'skill' in the same way that learning to press W to move forwards is a 'skill'. 4: While I agree CSGO could do with some kind of a movement system (NOT 1.6's version, as 1.6's version was a mess of bugs and glitches all mushed together), what I'm referring too, is as you put it, the 'freedom to take risks/make mistakes'. Against what most retarded people think, being able to make a mistake makes for an exciting viewing experience. How boring would SC2 be to watch if the slightest mistake basically meant 'game over'? The ability to recover from a mistake gives teams more flexibility and freedom to do as they want, making for a more enjoyable watching experience.

1. If you would start using your brain or at least read my comments below the thread about this topic you would realize that this was just a terrible excuse from Valve. There's no way a game which got a lower current player number at any time a day could have a higher number of total players. And I wouldn't even start talking about 3rd world countries since CS:GO player number is about 70% lower during West-Europe's prime time. 2. "99% of all players watching esports either don't play the game, or are casual enough that all of the little tiny things the 1.6 whore kiddies complain about don't effect them or their understanding of the game." That's pure bullshit. Did you ever try to watch a match of a game you don't play yourself? It's fucking boring and you simply won't understand what's going on. "The 1.6 whore kiddies are a very small minority of the player base." What player base are you talking about?! "The only reason esports require a high skill cap isn't for the players, but because it's more fun to watch something if you can tell which side is better at a glance." Of course it's important for the competitive player. Guess you never played competitively yourself because that's absolutely crucial for the spirit of competition. 3. "Wallbanging is very rarely used in 1.6 in a skillful manner." Okay, now your trolling became too obvious. 4. It's not like you can't get away with a mistake in 1.6, but to do so you have to show something really impressive (like a special movement technique or two very fast and unexpected flick shots). The point is: Making mistake against skilled players will always bring you in a bad situation and that's how it should be.

-CSP better than CS:GO I don't know. -CS 1.6 is worse than current CS:GO give me a break! how many hours did you play 1.6? how much do you understand about bunny hopping, quickscoping, controlling spray pattern by countering 7 or reversed 7 movement, flick shots, AK, Colt, deagle and usp tempo shooting, strafing and finding good moment to do tap-shot, practicing for few hours just to place wallbang correctly, how to trick opponent in different way in 1 vs X situation, how to do gain peek advantage in certain spots, how to shoot and running at the same time, how to duck walk faster without scroll and that feeling when you kill many person in seconds? Tell me what 'CS:GO is harder game because it has better graphic and more weapon' fits the eSports more than 1.6. If you do play CS 1.6 competitively tell me how do you feel when you remember the experience of frustration in a scrim match, when your shots seems to land on enemy's weak spots, how your current sensitivity feel too slick/heavy and when you change your sensitivity it works like charm, when you play CSDM with music on it feels like heaven or when you do clutch or ace and the next round your team mate says 'nice' or 'gg' to you or when you watch live match, ace happens and everyone was like "WHOOOO"? seriously, do you play competitively or you just started 1.6 AFTER CS:GO is announced? Do you care anything more than graphic?

All CS:GO needs is new maps created by the community including remakes of the existing ones, j3di's recoil update, a cvar that smooths the game out when msecs is set to 0 and a decrease in the acceleration of the models. Input those and Valve will have a game better than CSP and 1.6.

I would make CS:GO shit on 1.6 in the matter of a month, if the development team did everything I told them to do. As it stands, the money system and additional grenades add more tactics and strategy to the game than 1.6 had. The recoil is harder to control than 1.6, and so is the AWP. That's why you see scrub teams like fnatic esc and navi getting rolled hard in CSGO, even after honing their aim in the "better" cs game for 12 years. 1.6 definitely has better movement, but other than that and everything else I listed, once that's done CS:GO will be superior in every way. It also won't take 6 years to get there like it took 1.6. Basically everyone on this site is just awful at competitive FPS and can't adapt to change. It takes 1.6 players 12 years to get good at something. Throw something new at them and their true talent is exposed.

Wow, quick to judge eh. I played csgo regularly, gonna reach 55 hours soon(12hrs/3days). I know it's not hardcore enough but I like the game. I never remember saying anything like random recoil and no, the fact is it's not. You can learn the pattern. But to say 1.6 recoil is easier is just ignorant. I played both game, and tbh it's more difficult to get multikill in 1 spray on 1.6. And clearly it's easier to control 3-4 bullet in 1 burst in CSGO, especially with m4[midrange is just OP].

Hey remember that thread where the Valve development team told everyone that CS:GO has more unique IP hits than 1.6, a game that has been out for 12 years, and stated that 1.6 has more numbers daily because of a congregation of hardcore players? Yeah, you probably don't remember that. It also explains why there are so many hardcore purists on the internet who whine like their lives are over if the next CS game isn't a carbon copy of 1.6. These people literally spend their lives playing 1.6 all day, it's impossible to reason with them. This community will die and be left in shambles while the rest of us who have the ability to adapt move on.

all of my friends that bought CS:GO game is roughly 90%, I repeat, is 90% casual gamers. When I asked them what they thought of CS:GO here's what they told me: "It's nice! I mean the shooting are really difficult unlike Call Of Duty. THERE ARE some funny weapons and accessories thought like decoy grenade and molotovs" guess what! they didn't give a shit about world-wide competitive eSports. They just thought it's the "latest CS game with good graphic. CS game is casual game". I bet they stop playing soon enough.. I'm not saying that CS:GO is bad but these "new unique players per day" is not 100% competitive player either and not even half of them give shit about competitive eSport stage. I mean when I asked my friend about eSport he was like "who the fuck is NeO and f0rest". so what's the difference between 1.6 and CS:GO? it's a different game and you can't compare with stats.

And it's a free open beta which means everybody can play it (so why is there only 10 active servers??) Btw, you're going to use this fake excuse a lot since CSP is likely to stay in beta for the rest of this decade. Naive boy

I am a big fan of CSP but this is taking too long :/ maybe if they were able to release it before CS:GO then there was a chance that top teams had start to play it but now its too late. imo some people will play it and i hope that it will be good, but the comunity is slowly changing to CSGO and not many will change to other game again :/

logic of 1.6 fanboys OMG 1.6 IS DEAD, WE HAVE TO CHOOSE THE GAME THAT IS THE SAME TO 1.6 AND ALL SPONSORS WILL MOVE TO IT! that ligic sucks. sponsors needed a NEW game, not the rameake of old one, u can clearly see the diiference between sc:bw and sc2, i cannot see major deifference in csp and 1.6 i understand that u all love 1.6 but the fact that cs:go differs form 1.6 does not make cs:go bad game

AK it needs more knockback. AK's pattern are sometimes start Bellow the middle of the crosshair and it jumps really fast that sometimes when you tap enemy in the face it didn't hit. in CSPromod it start at the middle and jump really slow. of course the maximum recoil's high is the same but you have to stop spraying from the neck like you do in 1.6, in CSP you need to aim for the face(slightly higher) because the first 2 bullet knockback are so low and start from the middle. Deagle is fine. colt is hard to spray but easier to burst because after 5 bullets, the recoil change direction more often than 1.6(sometimes in 1.6 the bullet goes up left for the first 25 bullets and the rest on the opposite side) and it feels more like galil to me than colt in 1.6. you can notice that the pattern in CSPromod is more like goes upleftuprightupleftupright, it changes in hurry but won't give you a sign that it will soon change direction because the horizontal knockback is lower than 1.6 . yes it is easier to control the aiming because shaking has lesser distance than 1.6 but SPRAYING is hard. colt's recoil keep changing direction and most of the time it's uncontrolable. I can even do 180 degress full spray like people do in CSS, my aiming is correct like I do in 1.6 but the recoil started to go crazy. when the pattern goes left I take my aiming slightly to the right, I was expecting it to stop for like 3-4 bullets and change direction but it was not. In CSP the bullet start to jump to the left and I couldn't help myself to control the recoil! in the end I just stick my center aiming to the stomach hoping that it will hit heads. In 1.6 I rely on how pattern changes direction but in CSPromod the pattern.. is changing sides like crazy! I have no complain on movement although there's some problem with HEgrenade being too weak. overall it is pretty close to 1.6 ! I'm hoping for some more tweak on recoil!

It seemed a bit twitchy to me, but you can get used to it. Either way, it's obvious CS:GO will follow its path, csp will probably just be nicely designed mod for 1.6 lovers.
