CSPromod 1.09 released

After more than a year since the last version came out, CSPromod Beta 1.09 is now available for download.

The new version brings a lot of changes to the game, from updated pistols' recoil patterns to the introduction of the highly-popular Deathmatch game mode. You can find the complete update log for 1.09 by going here.

To check all the download links and P2P torrent links, simply head over to CSPromod's official website.

The CSPromod developers have also invited all the players to report all the bugs they find on the community forums.

Well the game just started, it will take some times for people to switch to it, and to be honest the game in its current state is pointless. We'll have to wait until 1.10 comes out to finally judge it at its full potential. But there will obviously be people playing it and tournaments no matter how small they will be compared to what's happening now on CSGO will start to pick it up once there are players, which I'm sure will happen. If these small tournaments are a success, then this game will grow more. And there's no one on earth who can say this will or won't happen.

Just wondering, How is CS.GO competitive? Oh yes, Random sprays, random headshots, random gameplay .. but valve pushes from behind.. cs.go is a shit of a game, no logic to its gameplay what-so-ever. CS.go = hugelol.org/lol/42785 Looks familiar ?

CS 1.6 had no new elements for over a decade, yet there are thousands of people still playing it and most pros left it because they had no choice. It's not like CoD because CSP never promised new content and won't make you pay for it. CSP was all about a graphical remake of CS 1.6 on the source engine, and that's what they did and are still doing now. With a bunch of hopefully cool looking models in the next patch. It just feels like you all hoped for a new CS...

It's portable to every new engine valve makes. It mainly looks bad due to the models/model animation which is being worked on.

being portable to a new engine doesnt mean its going to look visually competitive to other games csgo and css are both of the same engine but csp looks worse than both of them

Played it a few hours ago. Personally I dont really like it... The models are so bad right now and the playerbase is just too low to really start playing that game. Hopefully they'll change it in 1.10 as some people said and gets more players, then it's worth a try. :)

you do realize that csp dosen't have a strong permanent player base atm, only players testing out the new version, right? Which is fine because it's still in BETA. tldr; if csp fail, it wont affect cs:gos horrible numbers.

As I said on the previous topic. So whats special about this game, played it for about 150 dm kills , this is the csgo killer? Don't get me wrong, it's not "bad" but its nothing special at all either. The game has no X factor for it to take over csgo, there is nothing new and exciting about it, feels like the same old same old. Also it's funny seeing how fucking easy the recoil is to control lol,I find this very funny because 1.6ers always flamed source for having easy recoil and about how you need to be skilled to control 1.6 recoil yet they are happy with this piss easy shit?Skill cap high they said..

it's really crap at the current state. What i miss most about cs 1.6, is the movement my opponents model got from my perspective. In csp and cs:go the way models move, is just way to fast imo.

That's the thing. You have to gain skill in both movement and aim to make a difference. That's why NIP is always winning. But that bar can be putted way higher if promod is implemented.

I'd like to thank the CSP Crew for their ambitions and goals. But you have not succeeded in any of your plans so far, so why do you continue? It's just plain obvious that you've no clue in what CS should look like. Let this update be a lesson for you. Did I wait 5 years for a game that flopped on every single release? O well, atleast you tried. I'll give you props for this project but, I think you guys should let pros handle this.

They need to set up a donations thing on their web page or something and pay some programmers to finish what needs to be done and also work alongside some pro players to make sure the gameplay is on point.... it has the potential to be better than CS:GO (if GO stays in the same shitty state its in now) but the improvements to the game just arnt comming quick enough.... needs $$$ investment to really make things happen quicker or this game wont be what the community wants for another 5 years..

" For the longest time, we've been an entirely voluntary development team, doing as much as we can in our spare time, and we think that this latest version of our game is a very good product. But, you'll be happy to know that our project is on the verge of some very exciting changes - for the better. We've found some support that will allow our developers to go from entirely volunteer to mostly full-time in the near future. We can't elaborate on the details at this moment, but rest assured that we're going to be doing everything we possibly can to refine CSP and grow its player base and community. We truly believe that our project offers a viable, long-term future for everyone who's been craving a quality team-based FPS eSports title. Hopefully, after playing BETA 1.09, you'll agree. "

This could be huge. They really need to capitalize on the fact cs:Go is pretty much considered a gigantic failure and not what the majority of cs players want in a cs game and capture the interest of that player base Need to start making whatever deals might be in the works happen asap... I could see any investor making a return and then some with CSP if things are done the right way.

CSP is a very poor copy of 1.6 and it has no future in the competive scene. It can still be "fun" to play it on public DM etc, but 1.6 is still better in every aspect so I doubt they do any switching sure they probably try it out and so, but thats it ( talking about those +300 HLTV users that are its playerbase ). The funny thing is that this is still BETA and it takes god knows how many years before the full version comes out. I think all CSP related comments/topics should be automatically removed before the complete version is out.

Some guy summed it up on chat Wrck3: "the game is pointless, how do you know something is that? Easy! You ask what is supposed to be. What is CSP supposed to be? A copy of 1.6 with shiny graphics, ok! gameplaywise the game is worse than 1.6 and its graphics are just as *** as 1.6 ones." The only positive for me are the maps , wish the go maps were like these.

With the all bad animations, CSP still a way better than CSGO. Hopefully, CSP admins will improve the models and animations, and then, CSP will be ready to replace CSGO. CSGO fanboys... even with 2~3 years late, even with poor models and animation, CSP still better overall than CSGO.

Some remarks: - mechanics quite similar to (in some aspects same as) 1.6 - the pace seems quite fast... not sure if the movement is faster, the maps are smaller or it is just the style of play - sub-par graphics... not something you would expect in 2012 All in all, it is quite easy to get used to it if you come from 1.6 (or even source). I see it being accepted by some 1.6 players, but I can't see an element within the game which can attract new players.

CSP isnt that good. they had the opportunity to improve on 1.6, instead they literally just copied it. Why keep the distracting weapon bob?(please tell me theres an option to turn this off). And why keep the retarded awp scope with the annoying dots in it? The movement feels slow and unresponsive, however I much prefer the bunnyhopping system to CSGO. Spraying is now easy again. Overall not too impressed :( now i have to wait another year for them to update it

Great game! It really has the potential to become a "1.7"! :) The recoil feels great now and the overall feeling of CSP being an actual CS is overwhelming, unlike the horrendous CS:GO which is just a messed up version of Source..

I actually hope the scene will be devided again for some time. I'm sure promod can be played by more people then go. It's easier to play(pc hardware wize) and it looks better then 1.6. Cs:go was pretty fun. But the skill level is just weird. It's not cs anymore... Not fun to watch. I would love to see some pro's reacting on pro mod and also help these guys out developing it. Good luck guys.. i'll be patient as I was this whole time. One question though: how long did you guys wait for it to go live even when 1.09 was allrdy done for cs:go sake.

CS:Pro mod is a great example of how talentless the 1.6 community really is. There is nothing new about CSP, it's just a carbon copy of 1.6 with graphics from 2007. I guess the learning curve in GO was too high and people would much rather play the same boring shit they've been playing since 1999. Pathetic.

Ever heard the saying "chess not checkers"? CS 1.6 is chess. CS:S & CS:GO are checkers. Or, to use examples that are more relevant, 1.6 is Starcraft, CS:GO is Farmville. People who enjoy Starcraft don't usually enjoy Farmville very much, at least not competitively, which is why most of the CS:GO pro community consists of CS:S players. 1.6 players are there to make money, but at the end of the day, it will probably end up like CGS did for CS:S. After the money runs dry (due to no spectators and no community, a problem with both CS:S and CS:GO), the players run off, hopefully to CSP.

You see, the strategy of CS:GO and CS 1.6 is almost identical. In fact, CS:GO requires more strategy with the addition of new grenades, weapons and a new money system. Your analogy is true, except in this case CS:GO has more strategy than CS 1.6. Not all 1.6 players switched to make money, f0rest himself said 1.6 became boring and CSGO was more fun for him. Same goes for GTR. Also if you think CGS died because of CSS then you are more ignorant than I thought.

To be precise, it's not more strategy, it's different kinds of strategies. Plus several key gameplay elements and subtleties were removed from CS:GO. So while there are indeed more guns and nades in the game, you can't untilise them or the map in the same kind of manner that you could in 1.6. youtube.com/watch?v=_9ePwbePpoQ#t=1m20s just as an example, there are countless others. Mastering all the little ways you could abuse the engine/mechanics was what made CS so hard to master. CS:GO, being a game made with big money and high expectations, doesn't have that, simply because all the bugs etc. have to be ironed out. So all they can do to try and match 1.6's skill ceiling is add more guns, more nades and more garbage in general. It's ten points for the effort, but unfortunately it just doesn't work. Imperfections, and using those imperfections to your advantage are what made CS unique. When you take those imperfections out -- like you would from a product made with a current generation engine, for retail use, with lots of money behind it, and all the world looking at you -- what you are left with is nothing to write home about. [Edit:] Oh, and CGS died because they didn't have enough viewers. Why? They tried to appeal to the mainstream audience, which doesn't work because to the mainstream audience gaming is Call of Duty on Xbox and Farmville on Facebook. Had they used games that are actually popular with gamers, instead of games that could potentially look better for the mainstream audience, they would have done a lot better. Of course it didn't help that the whole format was awful and everybody working in it were incompetent.

Switching CSS and 1.6 would not have saved the CGS.. the CGS had a bad business model, plain and simple. If you think 1.6 has more strategy because you can shoot through the floor in nuke then there's something wrong with you. The money system in GO alone makes everything more strategic since not all weapons award the same amount of money, plus there aren't only 3 viable weapons to choose from now on buy round (AK, M4 and AWP). CS:GO is difficult to master, as is shown by how much everyone struggles to transition to the game. The spray is tougher to control than in 1.6, the AWP is harder to use and there is just more to think about in general. We haven't even begun to see how the decoy grenades will come into play on save rounds. Once the maps are remade for CS:GO, it will be better than 1.6 and it will only continue to improve.

"..it will be better than 1.6.." Yeah, no. The money system is retarded, following in the footsteps of why AWP was gimped back when Valve took over the development of CS. All of us have heard the old gem of "AWP requires no skill to use!", and only awarding what, 50$ for using it to kill someone, is gimping it down even more; for the sake of players who aren't as skilled. The addition of more weapons is indeed refreshing. How much that will affect the gameplay is another question entirely. CS has never been about shooting, as much as it's about everything that happens before and after the shooting. The only real addition gun-wise is something viable for close range combat, when in 1.6 assault rifles had to pull double duty. But, again, I'm not sure that will actually change or evolve the game much at all, but we'll see. Who exactly is struggling to transition? Get_Right, f0rest and Xizt are consistently the three best players in NiP and pretty much every tournament (with fifflaren and friberg being the two weakest players in the team), Curse (with 5 1.6 players) came in second in THOR just yesterday etc. I'm calling it now (and many have before me), but before long the top 10 of every tournament will be pretty much nothing but 1.6 players. It's not hard to transition to CS:GO. It wasn't hard to transition to CS:S either, 1.6 players just didn't have the motivation to because CS:S wasn't a good game. CS:GO is better, but it's still not as good, so I don't know if they have the motivation now, either. But we'll see. Like I said, they can't replicate the finer skill elements from 1.6 and earlier versions, because most of them were because of the limitations of the engine, and some straight-up bugs. But bugs or not, they evolved into parts of the gameplay, and after you remove said bugs and limitations, you remove crucial parts of the gameplay. You can add nades and whatever else, but without these elements, you bring the skill ceiling lower. I could make a video explaining this in more detail, but it's too much effort for something like this. People who've played for a long time know what I'm on about anyway.

You realize you just used THOR open as an example of easy transition for 1.6 players, right? Pretty horrible example considering not all the top teams were in attendance. Why not look at ESC or NaVi, two top tier teams in 1.6 and see how much they struggle to transition to CSGO? It's so easy to cherry pick examples and ignore the obvious, that the only 1.6 players to have transitioned seamlessly so far are Get_Right, f0rest and Xizt. The Mag7, Auto-Sniper, and P250 are additional guns that change the way the game is played. It is refreshing. The money received from the guns is also changed to encourage players to use different weapons, such as the Mag7 or Nova. The AWP could use a buff, whether that comes from the money system or its accuracy is another topic. We haven't even gotten into the molotov or decoy discussion yet. "It's not hard to transition to CS:GO." Please tell to that to ESC who lost to fnatic on 5 days of practice. It's impossible to reason with the 1.6 community when they think bugs are features of the game and need to be implemented in any new CS release. Anyway, if you don't like CS:GO then don't play it, as f0rest said. No one likes a whiner. The top teams will continue to play CS:GO and CS:GO will continue to improve week after week, while all you have in CSP is a promise from a team that broke nearly every promise they made for 6 years. I wish you goodluck with that.

We'll see how Na'Vi and ESC do after a bit more practice. I could venture a guess, but I figure it's more effective to let you see for yourself. MAG7 is the short ranged weapon I was talking about. You should've probably been able to figure that out. Auto-sniper was there already in 1.6, and isn't P250 that one pistol that is horribly overpowered, and that will most likely be gimped to death soon enough? People should not be encouraged into using different weapons through utterly arbirtrary monetary rewards, but because different weapons fit different situations. The reward system is used to discourage the use of some of the better weapons like AWP, to make them less useful, and thus cater to the needs of the pub scrubs who think AWP is overpowered. Most pro players wanted molotovs banned, and I have yet to see anyone really used decoys. Am I right in guessing you don't have much experience with CS? You seem to not be aware of the bugs I'm talking about, and what they did for the game. This fact alone renders your opinion on anything CS-related irrelevant. Please study CS a bit more, and learn what made it so great in the first place, then we can continue the discussion about what the future has in store for CS:GO. Bugs aren't parts of the game by default, but they can evolve into just that.

funny how you think bugs can evolve into 'part of the game' but you wont let things like molies and decoys do the same. your post makes no sense whatsoever until the last part which unfortunately for you, i have already pointed out is a double standard.

I've seen bugs evolve into parts of the game, but I've yet to see anything positive come out of molotovs or decoys. Granted, it could happen, but as of now it hasn't, so hold your enthusiasm for now. My post will make perfect sense for anyone with half a brain, or if you don't agree feel free to point out the inconsistencies. Allow me to quote myself from a couple of previous posts. "The addition of more weapons is indeed refreshing. How much that will affect the gameplay is another question entirely. CS has never been about shooting, as much as it's about everything that happens before and after the shooting. Well one has to stay pretty optimistic, considering how this is pretty much the last hope for CS to stay relevant, and also hopefully fun, challenging, and CS-like in the future. Although, at this point, it's safe to say that CSP is already horribly, horribly late, but good to see they are sticking to it. Who knows, might turn out to be a great game, and finally bring us a decent CS-game for a change. CS:GO is by no means bad either, but.. let's not kid ourselves, it's not a CS-game. Just a CoD clone carrying the title for extra attention.

But you cant seriously think that though! CS:GO is 99% Source gameplay and 1% CS gameplay.. The whole point of Promod is to make it as much of a CS game as possible (and not a source game).. And with this new release I must say they've come a long way in doing so. Amazing how they've made the movement more or less identical to 1.6 and same goes for the hitbox/recoil. Still it's based on another engine! GO promod! Bring back CS!

They've missed that ship. I'm not a die hard CSGO supporter and if competition went to csp I'd watch it. But csp can't take the competition when CSGO has such a large competitive following from so many big organisations. The only reason CSGO has competition is because 1.6 had none left so until CSGO has no competition no one will change to csp. It'll just be 1.6 with better graphics which is why I'm calling all 1.6 die hards hypocritical as they all constantly say "gameplay over graphics"!

well theres nothing better then making a great game into a polished perfect game if they can do that, its not hypocritical its just nice to have the same game but fresher, cs:go is fresher but no where near the same and fails in a lot of aspect. to be honest i played go and had some fun pubstomping but i really cant keep my eyes on a stream or pro match for more then 5 min without them almost bursting with boredom. its really not entertaining and maybe thats why people are hoping for cspromod for something exciting to play and to watch with the freedom of 1.6 and cs:s and we cant blame that

The levels still look like crap. Bland lights, low resolution textures (except the ones that where riped/copied from CS:S), boring geometry, too many BSP brushes (it's 2012 ffs, use some meshes), and so much more. It's an amateur product, it lacks the quality of a professionally polished game.

I'm not like saying this but ... it`s true!!! the sound and the models are horrible, and the dot crosshairs of AW is not exactly in the center ... OMG!!!

You know, in games like CS, the cleaned maps are much better, because you can better to seperate the players from the other models. What is a professionally polished game? CS:GO?:)

Never said anything about the maps being less cluttered, although historically speaking the reason why the maps where less cluttered in "old school" games (CS, Quake, UT, etc) was due to engine limitations and not necessarily due do game play. And you can still have cluttered maps and distinguish the player model from the rest of the environment if the player model has a distinct silhouette, which admittedly none of the several CS versions has. Take a look at Team Fortress 2 (another Valve game) for example, cluttered maps but still easy to read. And a professionally polished game is a game where the artists take the extra step to make everything shine, there are several art passes on the assets, there is a art director that pushes for a consistent look and level of quality, everything has the same theme, feeling and quality, which is not the case here. Which means that yes, CS:GO is a professionally polished game.

No it means that I've more then 10 years of experience as a level designer, and that I can actually give an educated unbiased opinion, I don't really care about all theses 1.6/Source/GO/CSP disputes. And how exactly is CSP doing well? Because it's not even in the Top 10 of most successful Source modes, when they get featured on the NYT, BBC, CNN, PC Gamer, and have their own Wikipedia page like Black Mesa Source for example than you might start calling it a success, until then it has no more merit than all the hundreds of other mods that are under development.

"low resolution textures (except the ones that where riped/copied from CS:S)" lol, the CSS textures are the low resolution textures. the high resolution textures (like the ones from aztec) are the custom textures.

Well that is even worse then, it just means that their environment artist is not that good. I've had this discussion several times with beginner developers, just because the texture is 512x512 or 1024x1024 it doesn't mean it has more quality. In this case they all look blurry, have obvious tilling and repeated details. Theres no point in getting a 256x256 and repeat it four times just to say that you now have a texture with higher res (512x512), you need to add more details to it. Although here it may also bee due to some problem with the mipmapping code, not sure. Nevertheless the textures are really blurry and lack detail. Take a look at Mission Improbable or Dear Esther to see how the textures should look.

At this point you haven't seen a single texture from their texture artist. They only got 1 texture artist and he is holding his work undercover till the version 1.1. Aztec was made by an other guy who isn't in the team anymore. All the other maps use CSS textures as place-holders. They want to completely revamp all the maps. Though I agree that the CSS textures look blurry and cheap I must say that the guy who had to work with this shitty textures did a really great job. his maps looks a lot better than what valve released with CSS. If you're a level designer and CS fan: Afaik they are still searching for good level designers and texture artists.

I actually offered my help at the beginning of the CSP project, in fact I was even working on a similar project before CSP was announced, but their answer was arrogant and not very friendly so I don't really think it would be a good place to work at, seems like they've some cases of inflated egos. Plus they seem to be in "development hell" at the moment, I've seen it happen with several projects before, even on some that I was working on, and it's not something that I want to go through again. If their LDs start getting saturated or burned out (which happens all the time) they wont get very far.

I don't know them personally, but from what I'm reading in the forums they are very friendly people. The team changed since the beginning so maybe you should have a second look.

CS.GO is more for retarted players, no skill just luck = 0% being competitive. 1.6 was different, where skill did matter.

according to lpkane of esea, it's not going to be free in the future: "it will not remain free" post #31 here play.esea.net/index.php?s=forums&d=topic.. so the question is with so few people willing to play it when it's free, what chance does it have if it will cost money?

I started to play CSS before 6 years, i liked it very much, after the big update came on CSS, i think in year 2010, i started playing again 1.6. and i liked it. i liked css and 1.6, beacause i COULD PLAY IT, and was very good at them. And i dont complain about anything, i like css i like cs 1.6 and now i like CS:GO, because i am good at gameplay, not one of the best, but i can shoot very well...so, now i see many of 1.6 players are complaining about the game. I know now many of the players from my country, they was at the top10 players,or top teams in my country, and they suck at CSGO but they was one of the bests at 1.6. and thats why,i think the most of u can play very good cs1.6, but you suck at CSGO.and thats why are you crying, cuz u SUCK at csgo and u cant play any other game than 1.6..so, stop compaining about those games which is better which not, the problem is YOU SELF.. cant wait to play CSP, when they complete the game ..

Never really believed in CSP but from what i've seen in 1.09 beta it's just awesome. Have been playing 1.6 for 8 years or so and I can say Promod really reminds me of it. Same dynamics, same recoil and the most important - the same feeling as in 1.6. Hope the map textures and player/weapon models will be changed, if so it would be a perfect change for 1.6 I also tried GO, have like 20 hours in steam. The game is ok but it's a completely different game, it's not CS, more like COD. I personally don't like it much. Hope CSP devs are gonna finish the job soon! Wish u luck.

play = fun, I will not stop playing my favorite game just because the market is not interested esport him more. A game is nothing without people who play around, A game can have excellent graphics but the gameplay is bad if the game fails. i <3 1.6 and if you want i <3 promod To hell with the cs: go, you play it almost forced .. To play what they like, not the top players that play or what the market is focused. The market is up to you, the players, you do not market. Idiots.
