ALSEN release CS:GO team

ALSEN have announced that they have dispensed with the services of their CS:GO division following a match-fixing scandal.

The news comes just hours after HLTV.org revealed that several of ALSEN's players had been caught throwing an EPS match against eliminacja.

With an odd value of 4.16 in favour of eliminacja on csgolounge.com, ALSEN trio of Michał "bCk" Lis, Jakub "kub" Pamuła and Damian "DiAMon" Żarski were all caught betting on the opposing side, who ended up winning the match 16-10, either from their main account or from alternate accounts.

ALSEN cut ties with CS:GO squad (photo courtesy of ALSEN's Facebook)

The trio's winnings exceeded $2,000, but it is believed that many other players in the Polish community were aware of the fix and also bet on eliminacja.

ALSEN have now announced that they have released the players from their contracts while stressing they were not implicated in this scandal.

"First of all, we want to apologise to everyone who suffered because of the dishonesty of our players, who we trusted," said projet manager Paweł " Pawcio" Watemborski.

"They have made a shameful mistake and the only correct solution to this case, considering their actions, is to end the contract between ALSEN-Team and Counter Strike : Global Offensive team.

"Many of our fans could be put off by their actions, and the whole case is not good for the company’s and sponsors’ image. There are only two people managing our organisation at the moment, and the whole organisation consists of 40 people.

"We often don’t have any clue what is going on, and that’s what happened with this game. I could write a lot more about this case but only few will understand our position and will be able to write constructive criticism regarding overall situation."

ALSEN had the following CS:GO squad:

Poland Michał "bCk" Lis
Poland Jakub "kub" Pamuła
Poland Damian "DiAMon" Żarski
Poland Mateusz "matty" Kołodziejczyk
Poland Michał "michi" Majkowski

Deleting CSGL wont help at all. New sites will appear, betting will be done under the hand and there are still a lot more sites where you can bet skins and money.

have u ever thought about golounge killed the competitive ? people just watch tournaments because the bets, people just cares about their skins and they forget about the competitive gameplay.... cs 1.6 never had a website to bet like golounge, and had the best competitive scene ive ever saw... #WeDontNeedCSGOLOUNGE4Kids

I agree and disagree. Yes its annoying that 90% of the talk in chat, etc. is about skins. BUT, at the same time the popularity ensures a number of viewers and profit that can sustain competitive CS. Add to that, that betting can add a nice edge to watching matches. I bet stuff too, but I watch the game for the match. Also, even skin based viewers can become "true" viewers. I started viewing comp. matches the first time in last years DHW. However, back then and afterwards, I only viewed pro matches very rarely, mainly the event matches. Then, at the CPH Games 2014 I heard of CSGL and started betting myself. I started viewing more pro matches, due to the bets. While at first, it was just for the skins, I soon came to a point where I started viewing mainly for the matchs sake. Now I watch most pro matches that can be watched, no matter if I have skins on them or not. I have gone from a rare viewer, to a frequent skin viewer to a proper frequent viewer interest in the match and not the skins. Also, remember again that deleting CSGL wont help. There are too many alternatives, from money bets, to skin bets, to bets under the hand, etc.

Of cause cs 1.6 didn't have a website like csgolounge. It wasn't a "thing" back in the old days to bet on esports. It is a whole new dimension to esport, and betting companies are starting to realize that it is worth offering bets on cs go.

MY POINT ISNT THE FUCKING PRIZEPOOL why do u keep talking about it ? the point is that the community, pro players, pubs and even casters on the past was way, way, way, way better than the stuff that we have nowadays and why ? because with these fucking skins the game attracts more shitplayers than the real ones back on time the subject of 87+% of topics were about gameplay, tips n tricks, how to improve X factor in-game, Europe/NA DM servers, the next tournament that X team will attend, and stuff related to this... now, the same amount of 87% of the topics are about skins, new top X teams, new players ranks (theses last two are created just after the end of matches, or even online matches), what skins could i buy with $1000, i was scammed, volvo plx etc... this current community is a cancer can u fkng understand now ?

The first ones to get caugh for real, but i am still wondering how many potential throws have been made. We all laugh about it and use throws for every team losing, so it kind of have lost its meaning, but it is nonetheless a very serious problem especially if teams/players are not retarded (like ALSEN's) and use alt accs with VPNs (and no linked accounts or added to main profile friendslist) or let very trusted persons bet for them.

Well, considering the fact that iBP and NCG were owned by the same people, I dont see that being unlikely. And after that, multiple pros in the NA scene admitted that they had been contacted and asked to throw a match. And then there was Moe, where yes, there was no proof, (except screens of the actual bet on a supposed second acc) but you could see that the whole team was playing the match, as if it were warm up. And then there were some more incidents in CIS/EPS as far as I remember, which were never proven, but were very suspicious, considering the heavily favored team played played like utter crap and then suddenly played super strong in the next match on the same map. Btw, the second team was a much stronger opponent and more interestingly, the guy that was bottom fragging and not doing anything before, suddenly was carrying his team.

I myself hate when people call out throw, just because an overrated team under performs, but sometimes it IS very weird and seems more than a coincidence.

Well it definately felt thrown, i saw both matches live and things didn't add up. Most retarded moment was when steel flanked 2 players trying to save, and did not take the shot while lining up, got owned and lost an awp. Then says "wanted to knife" like really lol... But than the folks took in consideration that their history shown bad performances after coming back from lan which "might" explain it but still there was no proof either from league admins or csgolounge, so there is no 100% knowing for sure it happened. I say this as a person who lost skins on that match and another famous match.
2014-10-21 17:06

I know that there is no 100% solid proof, but I feel like there are too many "coincidences" with some of the matches. And I am sure, that throwing is definitely something that happens. Yes, not every underdog win is a throw, etc. but sometimes, things get odd and I feel like leagues should have rules, etc. to ensure that people cant get away with this kind of behavior. Also, remember that iBP might have used that "after LAN" logic to have an excuse, if people call them throwers. Just like one Alsen player has now said on his FB, that apparently the only reason they bet on the enemy team was that they were not in great form and were not sure if they were gonna win. He compared the match with Alsen playing vs Fnatic and said something like: "Would you expect me to be on Alsen if we played Fnatic?". Those are just bad excuses. If you werent on form, but would still try your best against a statistically weaker team, you wouldnt bet at all, and definitely not on multiple accs with max value. Add to that the fact, that even a minor bet, because you werent sure, could make you throw the game.
2014-10-21 17:11

Leagues should have rules in place to dish out bans for proven throwers.

They could have easily gotten $2k each. 1. from their bets (probably multiple accounts). 2. Giving info to others and getting a cut of the winnings.

They don't need trade ban. CSGL locked their winnings. They cannot cash out and their all-in investment is also locked by csgl.

Everything gambling has ever touched always has a question mark around it. A pro baseball team had players get caught in the world series a long time ago throwing the series. The sad part is that cash is king! Do you want a worthless ring or a ton of money! Rings and trophies don't feed you or your family. People fix in college pros and even refs are bought off for the nfl. It's just the way money talks.

I wonder how many times a pro quarterbacks team was favored by a large margin then just just magically had the worst day of their life. I would look it up if I was you. Just bet a mill against your own team and kaboom you just made a few million for losing at a game.

For my math exploration, I was actually considering to look at how many times a team lost, in relation to how high the percentage that bet on them was.

I was CONSIDERING. I didnt do it, but I thought it would be interesting to make a statistic on it. My guess is that the win rate for the favored team is higher at 67-70+% then at 82-89%. Especially in certain leagues.

Just one game I can make an example of an one player that comes to mind is Jay Cutler. I watched the game were he was sacked 9 times in the first half and just would not throw the ball to wide open players against the Giants. The announcers were saying look the guys wide open why won't he throw it. Then he does not come back the second half and some 40 year old stiff is QB who could not complete a 5 yard pass. Cutler throws look it up.

Now that I think of it iv'e seen Favre throw many games. One game towards the end he just throw the ball straight up in to the air with non of his team around.

Obvious decision. Why keep a team that will tarnish your org's reputation? I doubt some of the players will ever be able to recover from this. As for CSGOLounge, I think only Tier 1 matches should be open to bet on, both online and on lan. Of course I'm not implying that top teams will not throw or have never thrown, but most of the time, match-fixing happens in the lower tier of sports - college handegg, sunday league football, regional cricket or whatever. Basically, matchfixing is much more likely to happen when the profits of fixing matches for bets far outweigh the reward of winning the match and in the more 'amateur' areas of sport, money is harder to make legitmately.

Consider updating article. Official ALSEN statement on their page was probably reworded. They describe the whole situation and their approach to their players behavior in much more strict and harsh words. There is Polish and English version: alsen-team.pl/news,koniec-wspolpracy-z-m..

Esport players who are matchfixing but are smart enough to not let their bets get traced to them care. They need to be reminded that it's a risk not worth taking because if they get caught then that's their CS career over with.

This is the problem with having semipro teams in CSGL. The winnings they earn will never be close to the amount they get from maxbetting against themselves especially since you can just have multiple accs.
