ESL.pl introduces betting rules

ESL Poland has adopted new betting rules to prevent more cases of match-fixing.

Earlier in the week, HLTV.org broke the news that three of ALSEN's players - Michał "bCk" Lis, Jakub "kub" Pamuła and Damian "DiAMon" Żarski - had been caught betting on eliminacja in an EPS match between the two teams, which earned the trio upwards of $2,000 as the less favoured side, who were sitting at the bottom of the table, picked up a 16-10 victory.

Shortly after the match-fixing was brought to light, ALSEN cut ties with the team and condemned the players' actions while insisting that the organisation was unaware of any wrongdoing.

ESL Poland has now taken a stance against match-fixing by introducing a new rule that forbids players from betting on a competition in which they are involved. In case this rule is breached, it will result in immediate disqualification and a potential ban from the following season.

Regarding the former ALSEN team, they have been handed one major penalty point, which means that there will a 10 per cent deduction in their winnings should they come out on top of the current EPS season.

Moreover, both bCk and kub have received six penalty points and three-month bans from all new ESL tournaments for "unsportsmanship behaviour", while DiAMon's case is still being analysed by ESL.

since the winnings are given by ESL, I don't see any problem there. This kind of penalty is made everywhere. But I suppouse you haven't understand it correctly.

what a bullshit decision, throwing a match and getting a fucking penalty point? they should be banned for at least 2 years from every ESL event. Also everyone involved in the scam should be banned as well, that includes even the people who didn't participate in the match, why? Because they knew of it, abused it, didn't inform admins. Those people are just cancer for the community, the community will be better off without them anyway.

Way too short a periode and way too few players to get banned - it should have been the whole team. Its not like two on the team didn't know that they were throwing. The remaining two who haven't been caught should have the 3 months ban and the rest should be banned for a year.

ONLY 3 MONTHS??? Matchfixing is the second most dangerous thing for the scene after cheating imo. Doping (cheat) has ruined cyckling as a legitimate sport and matchfixing is the biggest threat to football and can potentially ruin every sport. E-sports included. They should make an example and give these players at least 3-5 years ban so fewer players will take the risk and bet on their opponents. Yes i know that a lot of players probably do throw matches, without our knowledge, for skins but if the consequence is only a 3 month ban i think many will take the risk anyway.

The cause of DDoS is more than just betting. There have always been DDoSing and it has also been seen on matches without any short of bets recently. Betting is the biggest contributor to the game.

It might be a contributor but its certainly also ruining the the pro scene. If more people realize there is money to be made on betting on CS, more will DDoS and more games will be ruined. So sad. It's hard to say what to do. I wish all betting on e-sports would end, since DDoSing has such a big influence on the outcome. Too unpredictable.

you don't even need a diff. IP, if they ask you why do both accounts share the IP you can just say that is was your brother/sister/friend using your internet connection to place a bet.

I am assuming this is on a betting site using real currency? not steam currency. In which case the betting companies would almost certainly be reporting any unusual betting pattern to whatever their countries equivalent of the Inland Revenue is. Match fixing is fraud, a criminal act, no matter what the sport and people should be prosecuted by law not just given meaningless bans in online leagues.

Well, seriously, I don't agree with the no betting thing, what if I want to be on my own team? I think that players should be prohibited to bet on another teams, but not on themselves.

"Regarding the former ALSEN team, they have been handed one major penalty point, which means that there will a 10 per cent deduction in their winnings should they come out on top of the current EPS season." This is fucking it!? Fuck.No wonder people match fix and cheat.

Literally no punishment then? Ban should be way longer than that.

Lets not be fooled. These recent events are just the tip of the iceberg. I bet this happens more frequently than we are aware of. Its hard to counter.

Only 3 month ban...joke, right? Should be at least 3 years ban for each.

I disagree with ESL's decision. While I fully agree that what Alsen did was wrong, I find it somewhat weird that they get punished for this. There was no rule saying they can't bet against themselves before all this drama happened, thus they didn't break any of the existing rules at that specific time. Best way to explain what I mean is imagine if Netherlands banned weed and decided to punish every single person who smoked it before the ban.

slap on the wrist...esl/esl.pl should have made an example out of these, that would have happened in any other situation..for example in a real court.

csgolounge isn't the problem. you can bet fairly big real money on several esports and now even big sports betting sites. rigging has been going on long time in all esports games at some degree. it is just so darn easy compared to real sports to arrange games, especially any low price tournaments / meaningless games are under a big threat

These rules are good, but there will always be loopholes that cant be controlled. If an organization like ESL or if a major tournament forced these rules then smaller and not as big tournament will follow up to not receive bad reputation about not being sportsmanship (I dont know if it's the correct word.) Make big tournament organists enforce these rules or that we create a committee that make international rules for all tournaments that are official. :)
