PGL to host Major in Krakow

Krakow has been chosen to stage the 11th Counter-Strike Major, Valve and PGL have announced.

The event will take place from July 16-23, with the group matches being played backstage, while the playoffs will be held at TAURON Arena Krakow, which hosted the League of Legends EU LCS Summer Finals last year. The total purse of $1million from the previous three Majors is kept the same.

This is the third time that a Major will be held in Poland, with the previous two having been hosted in Katowice by ESL, in 2014 and 2015. It is also the first Valve-sponsored event run by PGL, which assisted DreamHack with the production for the DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca Major, in 2015.

The PGL 2017 Krakow CS:GO Major Championship Series will kick off with the usual four Minor events, held in Asia, the Americas, CIS and Europe. The top teams from these regional events will secure spots at the PGL Krakow Major offline qualifier, joining the bottom eight from the ELEAGUE Major.

While the exact locations of the Minors and of the offline qualifier have not been disclosed, PGL has already released the complete schedule for the Major Series, which looks as follows:

June 1-4: PGL Asia Minor Championship
June 8-11: PGL Americas Minor Championship
June 8-11: PGL CIS Minor Championship
June 15-18: PGL Europe Minor Championship

June 29 - July 2: Major Offline Qualifier

July 16-19: PGL Krakow Major Group Stage
July 21-23: PGL Krakow Major Main event

For the first time in the history of the Majors, all the matches, including the ones from the Minors and from the qualifier, will be streamed live in 1080p/60fps. The PGL Major Krakow will also "mark the debut of a host of new features aimed to make the viewing experience, both live and online, truly one of a kind", according to a statement from the event's organisers.

The following eight teams have already secured spots at PGL Major Krakow, as a result of the Legend status earned in Atlanta:

Undoubtedly one of the worst crowds i have seen And also without people, was so sad see a lot of empty seats between the crowd

When I say tone down I don't mean in offensiveness I mean in frequency. I can't remember the last time I watched him on a desk, maybe at the major, but he tries to meme far too often and quite regularly interrupts the other analysts to do so (or just keeps joking when the desk host is trying to move it along). Honestly he's just not that funny so I don't think it adds anything.

most of the guys u usually see on analysis desks have great chemistry with him. take yanko for example: he adds: good in-depth analysis and breakdown of rounds. in broken english and with little charisma. pair that with fuckin natu or vendetta or some pro/ex pro that also doesnt have much charisma and would pretty much do the same as he does and u got a boring desk. add thorin who is great at explaining storylines, general analysis, charisma, jokes, banter, lightens everything up and kaboom u got the best of both worlds. sick analysis but its not boring. its not so fucking vanilla.

It wasn't (maybe still isn't) cost effective for stream providers like twitch to stream in 1080p60, especially for large scale events. Even 720p60 is pushing it. Back of the envelope calculation : Even if 20% of the 1 million concurrent viewers watch at 6mbps (absolute bare minimum... still pretty shit quality). They'd need 200000 x 6 = about 1.2 tbps bandwidth. The cost of bandwidth has to be offset by the revenues via advertisements or otherwise.

The crowd in the last DH Bucharest event was indeed shit but that's because DH didn't impose any age limit and the venue was basically a palyground. Other than that, the crowds were great in all the other CS:GO events held in Romania. I have seen the stream. It was the worst crowd in history of majors. They only "chauting" (if that hardly noticed voice can be called) was during grand final. Katowice, Cologne, Jonkoping even that murica major had better crowd.

'chauting'? The fuck is that? PGL's streams keep the sound within the venue very low because they want to let the people hear the game and the casters. I'm sure that you've never attended a PGL event. PGL Season 1 was held in a cinema theater the crowd was fairly loud during the TSM vs VP matches since both teams were crowd favorites. However, when I watched the stream, I could hardly hear the crowd. Also, Romanian crowds don't freak out over a video game. They just sit and watch. DH Bucharest 2016 was an exception though. It truly was a shit show because, for some reason, a huge amount of kids (I'm talking about 12 year olds and below that) were allowed inside. Parents were simply dropping them at the venue as if it was some after school session and the kids treated the venue like it was a playground. However, the crowds at other DH Bucharest events, as well as the crowds at DH Cluj-Napoca events have been really civilized. They don't have to cheer, everybody has their own way to enjoy themselves. Who the fuck are you to tell them how to enjoy themselves? Also, another downside of DH Cluj-Napoca was that it wasn't a CS:GO event exclusively, so people naturally wandered around the venue to check out other games as well. I'm still pretty sure that what's bothering you in fact is that it was held in Romania and you only know a bunch of shit stereotypes about us and probably dislike us because of those. Gotta mention that if so, you're a hypocrite, if not straight up retarded when considering the fact that Poland receives a lot of hatred because of some shit stereotypes as well.

It's in Poland because Poland is one of most safest countries in Europe. No bombings or terrorist attacks, haha.

It is also the first Valve-sponsored event run by PGL, which assisted DreamHack with the production for the DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca Major, in 2015. Oh great I remember in Cluj there was 30 minute breaks plus analysis between every single bo1 in groups. It took forever to finish the matches.
