"Crouch jump" bug officially allowed at the Major

The "crouch jump" bug, that allows players to spot for information at some spots without the possibility of them being seen, has been ruled as legal at the PGL Krakow Major.

The "crouch jump" bug was brought into the limelight in the Major qualification cycle, when Nikola "⁠LEGIJA⁠" Ninić used the mechanic to gain information playing the white box on Cache as a CT. Following BIG's success, the "white box trick" quickly spread throughout the scene.

The crouch jump came into question after yesterday's FaZe - BIG match

Yesterday, BIG used the mechanic in a similar way on Inferno, when they took on FaZe. The German side ended up getting a win over Nikola "⁠NiKo⁠" Kovač and co., which started the discussion of the legality of using the "crouch jump" bug.

You can see how the mechanic was used in the BIG - FaZe match in the following video:

Today, the tournament's head admin Yehor "pANdA" Kolomiets confirmed that "crouch bug" is officially allowed at the PGL Major Krakow, and explained to HLTV.org the thinking behind the decision.

Firstly, Kolomiets stated that the mechanic is "a part of the game, and has been used for over half a year", and that fact "makes it similar to one-way smokes and silent jumps". Kolomiets then added that there is no rule that would disallow using the "crouch bug", and that "teams made inquiries about the ruling, but none of them officially complained about the crouch bug being allowed".

Shortly after the "crouch jump" bug was cleared as a legal mechanic, Finn "⁠karrigan⁠" Andersen tweeted that MOUZ and FaZe have made an agreement not to use the crouch jump in an abusive, repetitive way.

yes, heres the link wiki.sourceruns.org/wiki/Schrodinger's_C.. the hitbox model desync is also the reason why you could take no fall damage in hl1. they fixed ceiling glitching in csgo by not allowing crouch spam anymore and introduced new crouch models which are the same as the crouch when you land from a fall. here is an 1 year old reddit post about fall model bug reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/4o.. this is 100% valves fault. i know they are probably not able to fix such bugs in an 13 years old engine but if they atleast declared it as known bug BIG could not abuse it in this way. edit: just reread about duckbug in hl1. it has nothing to do with the model. "It's possible to trick the engine if you are ducked in the last airframe and release duck when you touch the ground. However, the cs engine won't detect that, because you gathered a lot of speed while falling down causing that the next frame will be in air again, making the engine think that you didn't touch the ground at all. Nevertheless your vertical speed (falling speed) is reseted, just like if you did an edgebug, therefore you won't die anymore."

its just bad design like the old tec9 or pistol 1hs kill with the difference that valve cant change it fast. when they introduced the new models they just took that risk for having camera model desync. those problems are known since hl2 release and thats the mainproblem. if you fix something in an 13yrs old engine with 1000 new features the engine was never made for in the first place you will break something else. valve simply said they are ok with it in trade of other bugfixes.

A smoke has a limited time and makes you use utility. With the crouch jump bug you can gather info the entire round with no risk involved. Also very easy to prefire a player you have spotted this way.

When you put in this way it looks the same, but on the game its not (in my opinion)... When you die because a one way smoke, the next time you see you will get morr attention to it, right? Or right from the start you will spam the spot (connector on overpass, for example, when you get down the ladder as a T). The use of this crouch jump bug doestn allow you to have a chance against the opponent, since you dont know if he is there or not... Its wrong. Especially on inferno, ita like you have wallhack on banana and short, two of the most important and crucial spots on the map.

this bug is know since source came out as schrodingers crouch. it originates from goldsrc where you could take no fall damage due to crouch in the right moment. valve never fixed it and never mentioned it even when t1 pros like gtr and niko were doing it months ago. better comparion would be scoutjumping back then when jump model and hitbox were not synced. or olof abusing obviously broken tec9.

Yeah that's op but for example you don't see the boost position on the top left, you only see the exit of garage in mid if i'm not mistaken (I could be wrong tho, but I've seen the big/imt match and Legjia was timing the smokes and other utilities on the garage guy, when they did the "upper tour" from boost they caught him).

Remember a crouch spam bug? E.g. when you are in pit on dust2, you position yourself the way that allows you to see your enemies entering long from long house when you stand, and hide from them when you crouch, then you start spamming Ctrl and you can see them when you stand up, but your enemies can't see you even when you stood up, because spamming Ctrl fucks up player's model behavior. Something like youtu.be/VFKVUzjzI7Y AFAIK they never fixed it in CS:S, but thankfully zBlock author did it for them. In CS:GO the bug existed too (didn't it?), and Valve "fixed" it by disallowing you to crouch and stand up fast (instead of fixing their stupid model mechanics). Guys, this is the same as wallhack and should be fixed, I'm sure the stupid Source engine just doesn't allow you to fix anything though.

haha, comparing this to a one-way smoke is pretty stupid. A oneway smoke can (just like this abusive bug) only be used at some spots. The main difference being that the smoke bug is obviously given away by the fact there's a smoke present, thus it is a possibility. Aside from that you can spray through a smoke.. This bug gives the enemy team zero information on wether or not an enemy is actually present at the spot of the glitch (Banana/Whitebox) so a team has to completely adapt their playstyle to work around the areas in which the bug is, or waste utility on it in some way. Just like League, the threat of a skill is sometimes bigger than its actual usage. BIG should pull a Fnatic and just ff, this is pretty dirty play, even though the bug has been around for longer..

I will say that its like cheating, cause its exploiting an existing bug that you know of and other ppl might not know... and besides you can do it on every single map, not only cache, even if some ppl find out that they could do it on white box that doesnt prove that they will know every spot they're using it on! The places this bug can be used are countless and you're not going into every round expecting that bug on every corner. The same thing happened to Fnatic vs LDLC on Overpass, and it was considered cheating back then why is this not considered?

Karrigan respect yet again When they first did the models and animations update Karrigan was the one to find, record and report the worst exploit, related to this but was because you could uncrouch and peek yet recrouch in time to not be seen. Sure, same thing basically, info from cover But you could tap peek as well and hold cover in many places then easily kill people who never see you at all if you were good at the crouchspeed exploit keystroke combo and perfect timing of it. A beginner was able to do it to the extent of barely being seen and get good at it in no time. Funny AF I thought, it gets Karrigan giggling near the end and I still can't not laugh now. Using it shows lack of integrity/morality and suggests being a team that gets hated for it forever is less important than possibly getting guaranteed sticker money again. I can't respect that when the point of the scene is excellence and all that eSport stands for gets reduced to taking a dirty shortcut to.. victory ? legends spot ? anything that was earned with shortcut is not truly earned and will always be tarnished as such. Integrity and fair play remember ? Valve can't use rulebook but can do whatever they want in their game.. Nah PGL are amazing production has been great, that HUD was worth the work, best casters analysts no shit tier hosts nothing to hate on IMO.. and am expecting playoffs to be some of best CS ever if not best. silent jump: when you jump crouched the heigth is lower. OK one-way smoke: It is an effect similar to glass fumé where only who is inside sees who is outside. OK Jump bug: In the jump you can see the opponent's foot and the opponent sees nothing of you. WTF! physically impossible

You kids don't remember but years ago a major decided to not allow the 1.6 bug "silent run" where you tapped +crouch. Players did it on instinct, everything was a mess, it all failed. Also long ago in a major the Nuke box near ramp, where you could throw a flash under and flash the whole room was also forbidden. NoA's elemeNt did it by mistake, they took some rounds from them, shaGuar did a scene. A mess. Of course it has to be legal if it's in the game. It's Valves responsability to fix it. And this isn't old CS, now things get fixed really fast. Complain to Valve not to the tournament.

One way smokes have nothing to do with bugs, but rather angles and the smokepattern. That is not the same thing at all. Furthermore, when I say it shouldn't be allowed, I mean for everyone... I don't care who uses it or not, because small things like this have a huge impact on the game being played. No matter how long it's been around. A bug is a bug. Bugs shouldn't be allowed.
