Liquid beat Cloud9 to win cs_summit 2

Liquid have won the second edition of cs_summit after defeating Cloud9 3-2 in the grand final.

The title decider kicked off on Train, where Liquid opened up the action with a bast execute onto the outer site. Cloud9 looked poised to take the round, but then Nick "nitr0" Cannella pulled off a 1v2 clutch to give his team the lead.

That was the start of a great run from Lucas "steel" Lopes's men, who continued dictating the pace of the game, with the scoreline blooming to a 6-0 advantage. It was only then that Cloud9 finally managed to hold off the Terrorists, and curiously it was on a very weak buy from the Major champions, who relied on a triple-kill from Timothy "autimatic" Ta. For the rest of the half, C9 kept their defense very tight and never allowed their opponents to get any economic development, bringing the deficit to a minimum.

Now playing on the Terrorist side, Cloud9 won the pistol round and the following anti-eco to take the lead for the first time in the game. But it would not last as Liquid were quick to soak up the pressure, winning six of the following seven rounds to get very close to map point.

With the game clearly slipping away from them, Cloud9 upped the pace and won the next four rounds to tie up the score. As the teams traded round for round, the game went into overtime, in which Liquid would win two rounds in both halves to lock down the map, 19-17.

Liquid win cs_summit 2 in NAF's first event

Next up was Mirage, which saw what appeared to be a reinvigorated Cloud9 side cruise to a 5-0 lead on the Terrorist side. However, Liquid set up a strong defense for the rest of the half, which ended in a surprisingly close 9-6 scoreline in favour of steel's side.

Carrying their momentum into the second half, Liquid won the pistol round with an A execution thanks to Keith "NAF" Markovic clutching a 1v2 situation. They continued to ran over the Cloud9 defense until the 21st round, when a quad-kill from Tarik "tarik" Celik in the B site earned his team their first round of the half.

Cloud9 would follow up that with another round, bringing the deficit to 8-14, but Liquid remained calm and collected, winning the next two rounds to take the lead in the series.

nitr0 was on fire on Mirage

Eager to wrap things up quickly, Liquid came out the livelier of the two sides on Cache as they secured the pistol round, but then they were caught off-guard by Jake "Stewie2K" Yip's massive triple-kill with a Deagle with just two bullets in the chamber.

That round propelled Cloud9 into a fantastic run as they won 13 rounds without response before Liquid took the final round of the half to bring the deficit to 2-13.

Liquid knew they would have to play a near-flawless second half to overcome the massive deficit, and they got off to a flying start on the CT side, winning nine of the opening ten rounds. But a comeback was not on the cards as Stewie2K clutched a 1v2 to put his team on map point before William "RUSH" Wierzba won a decisive 1v1 in the next round to take the series to a fourth map.

Stewie2k was the hero on Cache

It all came down to Overpass, which began with Liquid taking the opening two rounds of the map before they were stunned by RUSH's triple-kill with a Deagle in a force-buy. The game then entered a scrappy period of play until midway through the half, with Liquid then winning six of the last eight rounds to take a 9-6 lead.

Cloud9 kept themselves in the game by stopping Liquid's B execution in the following pistol round thanks to a trio of kills from RUSH. The Major champions followed it up with the subsequent anti-ecos, restoring parity at 9-9, but they lost their grip on the game once the Terrorists had money to work with. Liquid's economic control was simply crushing, and, with NAF in stunning form, they quickly closed out the map after conceding just one gun round throughout the half.

They can be even better. Oskar and ropz when shows up makes mouz really good, but If they dont, mouz is almost nothing. Ok, NAF is a great player, but they have Elige, twistzz, nitr0 even with IgL role showed a good form, and have steel, a mid-tier player that can be dangerous in some Matches. Liquid is my team in North America, so I am happy with that.

I’m a Liquid fan, but they’ve always been super inconsistent since like 2015. Ya gotta factor that in. They always have matches where they just fall apart and look horrible, you have to account for that also

Well deserved by Liquid. C9 probably expected SK and thought they could just breeze through Liquid but Liquid anti stratted c9 well (hence the wins on overpass and mirage and c9 haven't played train a ton so they couldn't anti strat as hard hence the OT) Anyhow great tourney for liquid to prove themselves as a good team but I doubt they'll this well again. They just got underestimated.

winning a b03 2-0 against SK, and beating c9 in b05 when they're playing so good recently, also with a 1-0 map advantage. NAF has put Liquid on another lvl.

lol. if you watched any of the maps you could say c9 was definitely not playing at their peak. they were not hitting shots, but still, props to liquid for winning. theyve improved immensely over the duration of this event, hopefully they can keep it. still think -steel +Nifty would be an ideal way to go if they want to be consistently top1, but we'll see

SK could do with the right coach, but IMO it would only work if they are an old student of FalleN or something.. they do have dead as a coach/father figure kind of manager guy or whatever right ? Analyst ? The biggest problem for SK was reading the new Liquid CT sides, they were pugging and know how SK play, and had zews as well, SK could only make educated guesses and try for good mid round calls. Really interested to hear FalleN talk about what mid round calls were made, Liquid played extremely well in a loose style and nitr0 is calling well, so no surprise in hindsight.. very hard day at the office for SK, and sometimes the little things hit really hard. Multiple times they weren't ready for a CT position or had to try and create something very late in the round. They often have trouble against unknown teams, there is a lot of assumption in CSGO in general, never have full info etc, have to make the best guess And lacking preparation hurts structured teams the most, no matter how good the system or players are, I think it showed very clearly today

Well, zakk former imt coach is avaible, but could work it or not And i did not see the liquid game (i only watched the game against torquad),so i'll not talk about it cause i dont have the information for it,and maybe i would say something wrong(i only heard that sk in tr took to much time to open the sites) And about lacking of preparation, fer and cold said that they dont watch demos, just training strats in the maps,so its easy to other teams create new stuff against them

The cobble T side was like they were blindfolded or something, really worth watching. Starseies next week, expect a big showing from SK. If they are good odds I might bet them to win pre groups, zero reason to doubt them considering all factors When you don't have a solid read on a CT side you either take longer to progress to a site and use synergy and comms to clear spots and hope clutch factor gets you through the round, or you make the best read you can from info gathered and basically YOLO shove all in on the flop in texas holdem with a decent hand. SK got the sharp end of the stick whichever way they went, Liquid core is super well drilled and took full advantage. How hard a situation they were in can't really be overstated, Liquid have a star lineup, performing well individually. CSGO is great isn't it ? as the guys said a few times, there is often no right or wrong choice in a round. So with how competitive the scene is at the moment, getting destroyed in rounds and whole maps is bound to happen sometimes. SK attempt at comeback on Cobble showed how good they are on the map now, but a huge lead and economy system only took 1 good call from nitr0 and it was basically over

Fantastic to see them finally win, will be a big boost. Sick roster now, rip jdm stop lounging bro ! too far from the screen lol.. Elige nitr0 NAF Twistzz who are the star players, spoilt with such depth.. steel is very capable and will integrate well. Z E W S G O D ! C9 starting to be worked out by the other teams, but still top 3 or 4, Liquid will be a big analysis target for teams now but have months of development to come yet.. could easily win again soon and move up to 4th ! SK struggled with reading their CT setups and ran out of time a heap so not reading too much into it myself, only one tournament so still close for #1 rank with FaZe.. just move Liquid a bunch of spots maybe to around 6th after fnatic.. G2 and mouz 7th/8th.. HYPE ! bring on Starseies and IEM ! CSGO has such a sick pro scene, Kiev is going to be insane with BO3 Swiss.. so many great teams capable of making top4

Bit of a perfect storm, G2 were horrible, SK were drained and style matchup and maps suited C9 a lot, felps did well considering he had to play opposite to his natural style And FaZe had NiKo go 0-0-7 with 4 ADR on Overpass so yeah

What a long road for Elige and nitr0 eh.. so damn happy for them, and the others have all shown theyre sick players but been circumstances against them.. so good for steel and NAF to get into this team Hard work pays off again ! congrats to Liquid they have the lineup and all the pieces finally, glad jdm is gone nothing personal ofc.. Liquid now have the potential to win big tournaments even a major, the next 3 months will tell a lot about their chances, but it looks really good FaZe and SK have just as much work to do too, next major could literally have as many as 8 teams capable of winning the thing, which would be mental !

I am a Liquid fan and have been since Cluj 2015, so I have ridden this journey with them since I began playing csgo. So excited for this team and they will be tested even more at Starseries with a whole lot better group of teams. Can't wait to see what this squad is capable of with even more time... I mean they pulled this awesome upset win after just a few days of their new roster. #TLWin

Let's be honest - in terms of prizepool this was just a T2 event, attended by SK only because it required small investment. And surely TL and C9 were there too because it's an NA tournament. SK didn't care much and let their countrymen zews and steel win. Cloud9 after winning a major didn't care either, while winning the event by another NA team would overhype the NA CS scene really much thus more fans and more sponsors (read money) would be involved which is fine for the NA teams overall. OK, Cloud9 found out how to rape karrigan and shox (the "ingame leaders" lol, the choker and the permanent kid), and they can even win Starladder, but I believe that C9 will not win Katowice while Liquid will not even make it to top4. But yeah, the main goal of cs_summit has been reached - the fans think that NA is the best, and I feel like till the end of this month the SK fans will lose the title of the most annoying persons to the C9 & TL fans.

I guess we just misunderstood each other then. No worries. Whatever happened between C9 and Liquid seems to be Liquid overperforming over the level they normally do. I guess that could be tracked back to them being hyped over beating SK - technically speaking.

C9 has one big issue for years already - its ska; when he's in good shape - he is easily the best NA awper without any doubts and top5 world awper for sure, the problem is that he's in bad shape more often than not :c (and no, jdm is not even close to ska neither on good shape nor bad, he had like 5-10 good maps in last 3-4 years at best and was underperforming every single time since TL singed him)
2018-02-12 14:11

Agreed, Ska definitely is the problem - due to the bad shape rather than good shape, as proven by the major to Summit. I guess you can practice consistency, but since it's been like this for years, hell, it's confusing as to what really can be done about this... :( JDM in my book was starting to miss really easy shots. It was not entirely like watching Sixer, but in the last 2 tournaments he was in, he might as well have been 70% Sixer tbh. So I wouldn't compare JDM to Ska in the first place, don't worry.

Very nice event. Liquid deserved this, multiple important individual storylines: -Naf JUST arrived and already he is proving why he's one of the best NA players out there at the moment. -Steel poor guy experienced first hand IMT getting destroyed and now he has experienced victory with Liquid instead. -Nitr0's awping is just getting better and better, amazing progress. On the other hand sloppy plays from C9, maybe they gassed out or something. Either way hopefully Liquid will maintain their momentum, GGWP you guys.
