G2 considering shox's team with Ex6TenZ, SmithZz - Report

G2 Esports are weighing up the possibility of granting Richard "shox" Papillon his wish to build a new team led by Kévin "Ex6TenZ" Droolans, according to a report from Flickshot.fr.

The news comes as little surprise as G2's results have not improved since the team benched Richard "⁠shox⁠" Papillon and handed over the in-game leadership reins to Nathan "⁠NBK-⁠" Schmitt.

With the 23-year-old calling the shots and Oscar "⁠mixwell⁠" Cañellas on trial, G2 have finished 13th-16th at DreamHack Masters Marseille and 7th-8th at IEM Sydney, slipping to 11th in the world ranking.

While at the Australian event, mixwell spoke at length about the team's issues. The Spaniard confessed that "this is not a good environment for a trial" and revealed that some of his teammates "are not 100% sure about what they want to do."

shox and Ex6TenZ could be close to a reunion

HLTV.org knows that G2 had originally aimed to give the team until the next Major, in September, to prove that they could challenge for titles, but recent developments are pointing to a potential change of course as shox could finally be given the chance to build the team that he has been planning for two months.

The 25-year-old wishes to reunite with his former teammates Kévin "⁠Ex6TenZ⁠" Droolans and Edouard "⁠SmithZz⁠" Dubourdeaux, both of whom are currently free agents. The Belgian has been without a team since February, when he was released by LDLC, while SmithZz stepped down as G2 coach in March to play competitively again.

Kenny "⁠kennyS⁠" Schrub, who has always been part of shox's plans, has reportedly already pledged his support to this new team, who only have two members of the G2 lineup that finished top eight at ELEAGUE Major Boston. This is making the team consider extending an invitation to NBK- in a bid to retain the Legend status, with the 23-year-old yet to make a decision on his future.

Should G2 decide to back shox's project, the lineup will look as follows:

Mixwell jumps from team to team like a fucking bunny rabbit. It was very clear from the beginning that -shox +mixwell simply could not work. Mixwell does not mix well. Not like this. SmithZz will not play secondary AWP? Why would you let SmithZz be secondary AWPer if you have shox or maybe even ZyWOo. Even Ex6TenZ is a better AWPer than SmithZz. Why is this so hard to understand to people? He didn't even like playing AWP, he filled the roles the old G2 lineup needed. Think about it, he was an AWPer playing a support role. It wasn't ideal, the whole team wasn't ideal. And he was still a decent rifler at the end.

I'm well aware of that, but I'm thinking of today. Judging from his last experience with the AWP (which was FAR from ideal I'll admit), he missed way to much. To me, Ex6TenZ is much better at it nowadays, his level never really dropped, while SmithZz fell of drastically. He sure used to be alot better as an AWPer than Ex6 was, I don't doubt that, but he lost alot of confidence since.

Yes, from the interviews I saw they'd be up to take him or nbk they are the kind of player they are looking for. Apex won't happen because show doesn't like the fact that he is way too aggressive and that they doesn't have the same vision of the game at all. (Again from interviews)

They want a player like nbk or body, a gamestyle that would fit what they need. 1 They'd have to rethink completely the team if they take a player like apex/rpk/... very unelikely but possible (source smithzz iv) 2 shox doesn't want to play with apex anymore because his gamestyle is too aggressive (all the time) and that they don't have the same vision of the game all ( source shox iv)

I'm a bit skeptical tbh, history has shown that there is tension between ex6, shox and nbk both ways for all three people. Shox has also said in interviews and whatnot that he is not a fan of playing with people like NBK and somewhat Ex6 that are very calculated and less "passionate". This could lead to brilliant CS or an absolute trainwreck, but I still think this team has a better shot than current the current lineup which didn't change enough.

RpK is not a bad shout for a "soldier" type of player who just does what he is told along with smithzz. I actually think Ex6 might need someone like that who has the skill and is also willing to give up his entire freedom in this lineup, but there could be some resentment there from when RpK did a 180 and went to EnVyUs instead of LDLC w/ Ex6. NBK would be ideal for this if it was 2013/14, but ever since he left Titan in 2014 he has kept saying he has zero faith in Ex6, so I'm afraid he might sabotage this team in some way.

NBK and apEX have near identical ratings over the last few years but NBK is definitely more versatile overall. I love apEX but he's a one trick pony who either has MASSIVE impact and dominates entries or he is lacklustre and does nothing. NBK is more reliable, smarter in-game, willing/able to be a 2nd awp and i think shox himself is keen on being an entry fragger so no need for RapEX sadly.

I think coach is not counted as a part of roster. Only players I think unless the coach was actually playing. So that's why shox is in a picky situation. kennyS and him are all good but need a third. apeX is just bad. He is in the bottom of the stats almost every game. bodyy clearly didn't like the idea from the start. So shox basically has only NBK left (who wanted to IGL but shox rejected so they have their own problems between the two). NBK either joins or forms his new team with the other 2 players apex and bodyy and retains the legend status at the Major. Very juicy story.

Well, not sure how this is going work out. It is basically about keeping the legend status. Otherwise, they will have to fight for qualification spot which is not easy. Frankly, if G2 really backs shox on his project, NBK or apex or bodyy (depending on who is offered/rejected) probably will bend over to join shox because it is hard to form a new team with the 3 of them and find 2 new guys to join (an AWPer needed as well to replace kennyS). Then find a sponsor for the new team. The Major is in September and qualification starts soon. Also, other events in the meantime.

He should have made clear that he didn't want to stay. Would have made a spot for a new player (AmaNEk, ZywOo - still has school i know, or EX6). I understand why he did that (to give himself 2 opportunities to succeed, first one in G2, second one in shox's team), but to be honest shows that kenny isn't strong mentally, and taking too much advantage of his highly esteemed status in the french scene. Should have made his choice and give 100% to it whether it was G2 or shox's team. Hesitating, doubting things is the recipe for disaster, even more when you're kenny and seem to fail under pressure (at least not perform anywhere near his best which is really high).

If I was in their place I would rather qualify again than picking up NBK (if I was in the players shoes, ofc the structure might want the fame & the money from having a legend spot/status). I would either pick up kioShiMa and make him an entry fragger (like he was in LDLC/nV before they swapped roles with apEX) where he EXCELLED, or ScreaM as a 2nd entry with kennyS or shox. Or just give ZywOo his chance by the end of june. He surely has this fire that a veteran player doesn't have anymore. Rising up from his amateur teams to this level would make him so confident, especially in Ex6's system.

Well what could g2 do if the team they gave time to is not even 100% motivated "this is not a good environment for a trial" and revealed that some of his teammates "are not 100% sure about what they want to do." That mean there are clearly internal issues, so why would you stick with trying something that is already broken? It seems like it's a shitty situation for everyone involved, including g2 structure.

They have to keep 3 G2 players, otherwise the team wont hold its major spot. Im not sure about the SMithzz situation, since he was listed as the coach but i think i doesnt count. Shox said several times that Smithzz will take an active part in his new roster so it will be atleast Kenny Ex6tenz Smithzz Shox The best option for them is +apex imo. This way the G2 roster from last major stays intact + they get a decent entry.

U might be right, but i dont think its fair to say theyre gonna suck just because other old timers are not doing well atm. Maybe all they have to do is support shox, and any french lineup with shox in it is better than the current G2. Thats how much better shox is.

Wtf is wrong with neo ? He's still playin'.. the entire virtus.pro team is on a slump. doesn't mean Neo is bad. Also look at pasha, flusha, Dosia.. all of this are old timers still doing decent. And btw, if this roaster forms.. it will 100% not be shit because ex6tenz will be IGL.. and he's the best igl that france ever had.. I'm sure he'll figure out a way to play as a team but also get their individiual level skills at the level of today.

The best possible french lineup would be imo: shox - rifler/entry kennyS - Sniper Ex6TenZ -IGL ZywOo - rifler/entry NBK - rifler/support 3 core stars: shox, kennyS, ZywOo 2 supportive players: Ex6TenZ, NBK Its kind of like Astralis atm, you got dupreeh, device, magisk as your main 3 core "star" players and then 2 supportive players in gla1ve and Xyp9x My opinion :)

WTF are you on ? Comparing ZywOo to DEVIL ? WTFF ??? ZywOo's aim is ten time better he is a GOD in the making, the French s1mple ladies and gents.. Did you see his standing for imperial a week ago ? The guy has been topfragging almost any match he has been in, and toprated any LAN in participated to in France.. He's not battleproven in tier 1-2 LANs (ofc) yet but he needs to play at the highest level asap, and if there's any team that can help him to skyrocket his progression it's certainly a team with the best french speaking IGL and the most experienced players on the (Fr) scene.. I can't wait for Zywoo to play against top players consistently, he's gonna shock people who think he can't hang himself out there for now.. He's not even playing fulltime atm.. He will turn into a wrecking ball once he does, like s1mple or more recently ropz...

ZywOo hasn't played t1 yet, but when you have the insane aim/talent like him and the way he is top fragging every game in FPL and online in t2-t3, i don't think it would take long for Ex6tenZ, shox etc to learn him about T1 CS imo

if they really decide to pick up this experimental roster it probably isn't gonna last long because of the skill level. ex6tenz and smithzz is already bad enough in the team as it is while shox and kenny is gonna need to carry most of the games. a good pickup could possibly be one of the EnVy players like ScreaM or RpK or LOGAN from LDLC. i still highly doubt the long term commitment of this team if they fail to impress in tournaments. i'm also surprised that this thread has 830 comments
