Liquid invited to IEM Sydney

The North American side has become the fifth team to be invited to the $250,000 event in Australia.

Liquid, who are currently ranked No. 2 in the world, join FaZe, MIBR, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and Renegades in the invite list for IEM Sydney, which will also feature BIG who punched their ticket through the European qualifier.

Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken and company have recently suffered a quarter-final upset at the IEM Katowice Major, losing 2-0 to ENCE. The North Americans are set to attend two BLAST Pro Series events, in São Paulo and Miami, and participate in ESL Pro League Season 9 before they travel to Australia.

Liquid have a busy couple of months ahead

Last year, the North American squad lost to NRG in IEM Sydney's North American qualifier, which makes this the first time Liquid attend the Australian tournament.

The event will take place on April 30-May 5, with the playoffs being held at the Qudos Bank Arena in the last three days. Four of the remaining eight spots will be given out in regional qualifiers while the other half gets distributed via invites.

Additionally, Swole Patrol's status could change after they won the North American qualifier but lost the majority of their roster to eUnited.

The current team list is below:

Australia Renegades
Brazil MIBR
United States Liquid
United States Swole Patrol

probably not better then renegades which could be disputed yes rng made it to quaters in the major but when order has been in these big tournaments they always show 110% they took cloud 9 to 3 maps and double over time when cloud 9 was in there prime after winning eleauge tournament

C9 was not in their prime lol. They were falling apart and order had one ok tournament which just happened to be on home soil. They had the hype of playing a big LAN tournament on their own soil. Every other big tournament I've seen them at the have played shit. Tbh they normally do get a hard draw but there is no arguing at all that they are nowhere near the skill of RNG. They have been through a few roster changes so let's see how they play before we even think they should get an invite.

I'd rather see a new upcoming team fail in the tournament than watch the same old teams fall short over and over. There's already online qualifiers for some of the spots so I don't really understand your point. Remove the invites and make it all qualifier-based.
