Windigo beat AGO in three maps to win WESG World Finals

Windigo have lifted the trophy at the WESG World Finals after defeating AGO 2-1 in the grand final (14-16 on Inferno, 16-13 on Mirage, and 16-7 on Dust2).

The best-of-three grand final between AGO and Windigo kicked off on the Polish team's map pick Inferno. The T-sided Windigo came out on top in the pistol round as Yanko "⁠blocker⁠" Panov got a double kill to open up the round while Viktor "⁠v1c7oR⁠" Dyankov's two kills closed it out.

Valentin "⁠poizon⁠" Vasilev and v1c7oR found themselves in a 2vs5 post-plant situation in the fourth round but the Bulgarians managed to clutch it out thanks to v1c7oR's 1vs3 win (4-0). AGO got on the scoreboard two rounds later, with Kacper "⁠kaper⁠" Słoma's kills stabilizing the defense.

Windigo came back after losing the first map

Dominik "⁠GruBy⁠" Swiderski picked up an AUG ace in the ninth round as AGO got within one round of their opponents. The Polish team took the lead in the 11th round as kaper found three kills in a 3vs5. Windigo stopped AGO's eight-round streak in the 14th round despite giving away the first two kills.

After trailing 8-7 at halftime, Windigo tied the game as Georgi "⁠SHiPZ⁠" Grigorov got a triple kill to win the second pistol. Even though AGO hit back with a 2vs4 victory in the first weapon round to tie the game at 9-9, Windigo went on a four-round streak thanks to their tight defense, extending their lead to 13-9.

AGO reached double-digits by taking the 23rd round and Tomasz "⁠phr⁠" Wójcik clutched a 1vs2 in the following round to make it two in a row (13-11). AGO came back to earn two map points and closed it out on the A-site in the 30th round, winning 16-14.

Windigo had a fantastic start on the CT-side on Mirage where they secured the first three rounds. GruBy came close to clutching a 1vs2 and a 1vs4 but v1c7oR and blocker denied him the chance. The Polish team finally hit back in the ninth round and trailed 8-2 after Grzegorz "⁠SZPERO⁠" Dziamałek clutched a 1vs2 in the following round.

AGO earned $200,000 by finishing in second place

SHiPZ and company responded to AGO's five-round run by picking up the last two rounds in the first half, leading 10-5. Kamen "⁠bubble⁠" Kostadinov clutched a 1vs2 in the second pistol to make it 11-5 and Windigo went on to lead 14-8. The Bulgarian side won the map 16-13, tying the series at 1-1.

The final map was Dust2 and The T-sided AGO picked up the pistol round win. poizon got two Scout kills in the second round, which Windigo won to start a five-round streak. kaper and GruBy clutched a 2vs4 in the ninth round despite possessing inferior weaponry and armor as AGO trailed 6-3. Windigo secured four rounds in a row to end half 10-5 in front.

kaper clutched a 1vs2 in the second pistol round but AGO were unable to follow it up with another round victory. v1c7oR's 1vs3 clutch in the 18th round made it 12-6 and Windigo went on to win the map with a 16-7 final scorline. With the 2-1 series victory, Windigo have become the champions at the WESG 2018 World Finals.

is this happens because we are from BULGARIA ????? Jokes aside, so happy for the boys, bubble and victor have been in the scene since forever, on the other hand poizon/shipz/blocker are all young talents with promising future. Not to mention this team is for sale atm and they were still able to find the motivation to fight and win this tournament, taking down names like fnatic/MIBR/G2 etc. I haven't been this proud as a bulgarian since SK.Insomnia won the biggest WC3 tournament back in the days at WCG 2003. And that was many moons ago... Well deserved, GGWP!
