MIBR repeat ECS victory over Liquid to qualify for LAN finals
MIBR came back from a map down to beat Liquid 2-1 in the grand final of ECS Season 7 North America week five and secure a spot at the LAN Finals.
The online portion of ECS Season 7 reached its end with an exciting Americas showdown between Liquid and MIBR. It was a rematch of the week 4 final, which the Brazilians had convincingly won in just two maps, and even if the outcome was still the same, the Brazilians were made to work much harder to repeat last week's victory.
"I am proud of the team," Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo told HLTV.org after the match. "Our hard work is starting to pay off." It has been a while since MIBR have looked this strong and so sure of themselves to be able to come back from a disastrous performance like the one on Overpass. They are now on a nine-match winning streak and have twice defeated Liquid since the defeat at the hands of the North American at IEM Sydney.
Liquid had endured a rough start to the day, losing three of their four games at cs_summit 4, but entered this series with all guns blazing. MIBR's round wins in the first half of Overpass were few and far between, and they were often caught off-guard by the CTs’ aggressive approach, ending the half with just three rounds on the board.
Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski piled more misery on the Brazilians with a 1v2 clutch in the second half pistol, with Liquid riding that momentum to reach map point. MIBR still attempted a response but to no avail as the North Americans immediately wrapped things up after denying Epitacio "TACO" de Melo a heroic 1v4 clutch.
MIBR looked a different side during the early stages of Mirage and constantly found holes in Liquid's defense with some well-timed executes and great map control. Nick "nitr0" Cannella's troops improved as the game wore on, though, and finished the half with a narrow 8-7 lead.

A flawless CT side pistol marked the beginning of a dominant period from the Brazilian side, who brought the scoreline to 11-8. Liquid responded thanks to a trio of kills by EliGE in the B site, and put together a string of rounds to equalise the score at 11-11.
It looked like the North Americans had the game under control, but their default plays started to prove ineffective. MIBR kept the Terrorists at bay for the rest of the game and locked down the map at 16-13 off the back of a stunning ace by FalleN.
A chaotic start to Inferno, with rounds going back and forth and neither side managing to get a grip on the game, was brought to an end by a 1v3 clutch from Marcelo "coldzera" David in the fifth round of the game. With Liquid's economy in shatters, MIBR went on a massive run, but a late resurgence by the North Americans saw the half end with a 9-6 scoreline in the Brazilians' favour.
After switching to the CT side, MIBR set up a water-tight defense and won five consecutive rounds to get within touching distance of victory, Liquid put together a string of rounds after that, but their hopes were dealt a heavy blow in the 23rd round as Fernando "fer" Alvarenga pulled off a quick triple-kill in the B entrance. The 27-year-old would prove decisive in the final round of the game as he created a two-man advantage for his team early on, leaving Liquid unable to fight back.
