ECS Season 8 set to start

The first ECS Season 8 matches will kick-off shortly, as Week 1 of competition starts in both Europe and North America.

The eighth season of the FACEIT-backed CS:GO league will see small changes to its format compared to ECS Season 7. Now, the first team to qualify for the event from each region will be the one to earn the most money from the first two $25,000 single-elimination online cups. After that, each weekly winner will grab a spot at the ECS Season 8 Finals, where a total of eight teams will be in competition.

The LAN finals for ECS Season 8 will take place in North America in November, however, the full details about the location and date haven't been released yet.

In Europe, three teams from ECS Season 7 and five Pinnacle Cup teams will compete for a part of the $25,000 prize pool, working their way towards the LAN finals. The cup will feature the following matchups:

20:00 FORZE vs. Ambush
20:00 Japaleno vs. HEROIC

The North American side of things is much more stacked, with big names such as Liquid, NRG, and Cloud9 all in competition. The schedule of the first matches is as follows:

03:00 Cloud9 vs. ex-Luminosity
03:00 Singularity vs. NRG

ECS' weekly cups are filled based on priority, with the ECS Season 7 teams having first pick if they want to compete in a certain week. After that, lower-ranked Season 7 teams* such as MOUZ and eUnited are in line, with the remaining spots filled with ECS Pinnacle Cup teams (Europe and North America), based on their results.
