The eight-player OMEN Challenge presented by HLTV has come to an end, with Oleksandr "⁠s1mple⁠" Kostyliev being crowned the champion after an exciting final against Nathan "⁠NBK-⁠" Schmitt.

The day kicked off with phase one of the event, which pitted the players against each other in a series of free-for-all deathmatch games to determine seeding for the single-elimination aim battles. The conclusion of phase one yielded the following results for the playoffs:

1. Nicolai "⁠device⁠" Reedtz
2. Nikola "⁠NiKo⁠" Kovač
3. Oleksandr "⁠s1mple⁠" Kostyliev
4. Nathan "⁠NBK-⁠" Schmitt
5. Denis "⁠electroNic⁠" Sharipov
6. Marco "hayden" Witzner
7. Håvard "⁠rain⁠" Nygaard
8. Nikolas "n1k" Laiho

With seeding determined, the 1v1 playoffs got underway, initially with best-of-15 duels, which transitioned into best-of-25 semi-finals and a best-of-35 grand final. Each match cycled between five weapons; the Desert Eagle, UMP-45, M4A4, AK-47, and AWP until one player came out on top.

s1mple solidifies his claim as Counter-Strike's best aimer

The playoffs saw the young amateur duo of Nikolas "n1k" Laiho and Marco "hayden" Witzner fall early on in the quarter-finals despite valiant showings against device and s1mple, respectively. In the remaining first round matches NBK- took down electroNic, while rain prevailed over his fellow FaZe teammate NiKo. s1mple then made short work of device in the semi-final, with NBK- emerging victorious over rain on the other side of the bracket.

The grand final proved to be a nail-biting affair in the opening rounds, with the two players trading blows back-and-forth before s1mple eventual pulled ahead. NBK- gradually chipped away at the score difference, levelling it up at 12-12. The two continued to go toe-to-toe throughout the matchup, with s1mple ultimately coming out on top to win the OMEN Challenge with a narrow 18-17 victory.

imo the map was shit for real aimduels anyway, so many kills because of bad luck with timings, they should have stayed with a more simple map like the blast standoff map for the 1 vs 1 duels. This map didnt show who had the best aim, but who had more luck with timings... i hope they will host an improved version of this tournament in america and invite Twistzz, Elige, Brehze and Ethan to get some real aimduels.

A better aimer doesn't mean you're a better player ^^ In the Case of Zywoo this though it's true. He's the best player in the world right now and there's nothing wrong saying he's a better aimer because these two things are unrelated (Niko is still an insane aimer but he's nowhere close top 5-10 this year). Zywoo is a better rifler and deagle player than s1mple and there's only a debate for the awp^^ I think s1mple is more of an awper than Zywoo is tbh, he just plays it cause everyone else in the french scene is dogshit with the awp atm

I've seen him in aim maps lmao already... he has beaten a lot of pro players, not all of them are recorded but you can find info about that. He's also training 1v1 aim maps for years on a daily basis when he's bored etc. The first time he streamed with Vitality he was playing 1v1s (against randoms though).

Hope it turns into a regular challenge, maybe 4 times per year or something like that, even more if it gets popular, and some ways to make random unknowns qualify with full VAC protection ofcourse.
