FACEIT to shut down ECS and focus on B Site league - Report

FACEIT will pull the plug on the Esports Championship Series (ECS) to produce the 'B Site' league, DBLTAP reports.

The decision will mark the end of one of the most important competitions on the tournament circuit since 2016, when the ECS came to life following a partnership between FACEIT and Twitch.

The report comes at a time when the organisers of the B Site league - a temporary name - and ESL, who run the ESL Pro League, are engaged in a tug-of-war for some of the best teams in the game. Since the two leagues will run concurrently, teams will have to commit to just one of the competitions, with Cloud9, MIBR, Gen.G, Dignitas and MAD Lions having all reportedly sided with the new project.

The ECS has reportedly come to an end

Kicking off in March, the B Site league will feature 12 teams, who will compete on LAN for eight spots at the finals. The tournament will have a $2 million entry fee and will offer co-ownership and revenue sharing to all competing organisations.

The ECS ran for eight seasons and featured live events in the United Kingdom, the United States and Mexico. Astralis are the most successful team in the history of the competition, with four titles to their name, followed by G2, SK, FaZe and Vitality, with one trophy apiece.

How is this even going to work. Unlike Overwatch, they don't have support of game maker (Valve). With biannual major, I wonder how they will justify having teams that do badly in major or even fail to qualify. ESL doesn't have this problem, because bad teams were relegated sooner or later.I guess PR department will be busy.

Not really the same though, as CS has basically a free market for TOs but in CoD the league will basically have a monopoly position. Still seem overpriced but certainly worth more than this B site league.

Expected. Last two seasons, some top teams didn't participate for the week cups 1-5 , because they will or playing LAN tournaments. And they lost a spot for new season, because not enough points. What about ESL Pro League ? Optic and Windigo disband and left CS:GO Scene. It's already start ESEA MDL, but not Pre-Relegation and Relegation . And how works this GLOBAL Challenge cup with top 2 teams will playing new season in ESL PRo league, if are 2 EU Teams ? Who will relegated and how ?

Maybe unpopular opinion, But right now there's way too many ambitious League projects that are not looking so good in attending teams, and with exclusivity being introduced we could see a big dip in viewer numbers cause the lack of top tier matchups. This could be rough to some tourney orgs

I disagree. I mean it gets pretty boring honestly to watch the same teams competing at every event and that’s why T2-T3 events are good too, because it gives other teams a chance to shine

This is a good point too, But i still worry about exclusivity and the potential of big teams being seperated and resulting in one sided tourneys. Like the infamous Blastralis situation, we don't want exclusivity to make big teams shy away from big tourneys just because they signed some exclusive deal

Won't work, OWL is still struggling to stabilize. Yes franchised esport is the future but you need really solid orgs and more than just 12... It won't work, it's too early and just looking at the top30 only around 15 of the orgs have huge financial backbones. And if teams are not sold on the idea you will have ESL getting the other ones, and potentially the BLAST circuit... And then the Majors... I really don't know what they are doing.

in doto franchise maybe would work cuz u see already only the same players and teams but csgo never. It is such competitive even tier 4 teams can attent to 100k tournaments and play for a little salary. When clans/teams decide to join a franchise it can mean they will never attent again to sth like ESL cologne. Invites are still freedom of any tournament organizer and when they are in a franchise they have no time to play qualifier. Without Valve you aren't able to create a working franchise

Might be cool splitting up the circuit. It's getting pretty boring seeing the same teams play every other week. We would get all the best teams come together at the major and it would be an important event. That's where we would see teams play each other that would otherwise never meet. Depends which teams sign with which org. If ESL gets all the best teams then faceit will be meaningless. We need an even split.

it's still bad instead of having set qualifiers because it robs lesser teams who don't have much money to spend the chance to compete. also having exclusivity is bad for the scene overall, if the teams are split in different leagues and the best aren't able to compete against each other because of retarded league contracts what is the point? the game would become bland as fuck. every organization which is respecting themselves should make a stand against this attempt of destroying the competitiveness of this game.

you are right but I am not surprised. in the NBA there is no relegation. It makes more $ and is easier to create some super orgs that are the popular 1s that go every time than to have competition. A complete business move with no respect for the game. $ is all that matters in most things so I guess CS is no different =/
