moose joins Calyx, MICHU on Envy ESEA roster for ESL One Rio Major open qualifier

Envy have added three new players to their ESEA roster ahead of the first North American ESL One Rio Major open qualifier.

Kaleb "moose" Jayne spent a majority of 2019 playing under the eUnited banner, briefly stepping down from the active roster in September after the signing of Ryan "freakazoid" Abadir. He made his return to the team two months later after the benching of Anthony "vanity" Malaspina, competing alongside them in the IEM Katowice 2020 qualifiers and the fifth Mythic Cup to no avail.

More recently, the 21-year-old Canadian was seen playing as a stand-in for the North American Singularity roster in WINNERS League Season 3 Invite and the DreamHack Open Anaheim qualifier just prior to the organization releasing their remaining American players. A report from cybersport.pl also recently linked moose to the final spot on the Envy roster, citing his eUnited teammate Edgar "MarKE" Maldonado as another candidate that was considered.

moose has joined the Envy ESL One Rio Major qualifier roster

Envy's roster for the qualifier also contains Michał "MICHU" Müller and Buğra "Calyx" Arkın, with the two players previously being linked with moves to the organization by reports from cybersport.pl and DBLTAP, respectively. Notably, both publications reported that Nikola "LEGIJA" Ninić would take up the role of coach for the squad, although the former BIG member has yet to join the above roster as of the publication of this article.

Envy began the year by benching Bradley "ANDROID" Fodor and Jacob "FugLy" Medina, with the latter player releasing a lengthy TwitLonger discussing his frustrations towards the end of his time on the team. Prior to the benching of the two players, Envy had transferred Sam "s0m" Oh to Gen.G, and parted ways with coach Zachary "Eley" Stauffer and manager Taylor "Tailored" Broomall, leaving them to rebuild around their two remaining players.

Envy's roster for the upcoming ESL One Rio Major open qualifier looks to be:

United States Noah "Nifty" Francis
United States Ryan "ryann" Welsh
Turkey Buğra "Calyx" Arkın
Poland Michał "MICHU" Müller
Canada Kaleb "moose" Jayne

Nifty isn’t even that great of a player. Envy’s tolerance of his poor leadership reeks of desperation for prominence again. Which, with this roster? They won’t achieve. Sticking a bunch of Europeans together in the hopes they out-skill the NA rosters is such a shot in the dark. We’ll see how this shakes out with OG and Complexity in the long run.

WARDELL definitely took the forefront for me for up-and-coming Canadians (and NA for that matter) that I have faith in. I wish he'd commit to a decent roster. He's burning through his prime years - although he is of course developing into a very good streamer. He's aiming to stream 365 days this year, I believe. By the end of the year, if he hasn't signed with a team, he'll be one of the top CSGO streamers. You definitely get your value for subbing to a player who is putting in that many 10-12 hr days lol.

Imo WARDELL is kinda overhyped (just my opinion) and for him become a top streamer is a more viable and financially rewarding option than going pro.
2020-01-31 07:55

The only way going pro is more economically viable is when you're a Top 10 team making Tier 1 salaries. Otherwise, yes, streaming is the better route. The only downside with streaming is that much of your life is controlled by expectations of the public. While being a pro, people don't have to like you and you don't really have to publicly cater to them to get your money. You can be Conor McGregor and as long as you're performing well in the server, you're almost impervious to any outside scrutiny. Also, you get the glory of being a champion - whereas streamers don't. Unless you're Dr. Disrespect. ;)

Steel would be awesome - but sadly he's part of Richard Lewis' No Major Club, lol. Android if he could bounce back to form for the year or better yet Subroza if he could stay consistently in form! Maybe a new player if there was a ZywOo somewhere in the roughs.

On paper it doesn’t look half bad, but I feel it won”t connect. Calyx being on too many rosters of late is dubiois of his character and non-NA players to get used to NA is also a factor.

I don't think so. that VP roster was so utterly shit that even someone good had trouble dragging along a bag of heavy trash. Run a mile or 1000 feet or whatever you want. Now do it with bricks strapped to your back and see if you can do it as fast...

Not really a good analogy there... there are plenty of players who has performed good while being in not so good teams. He just simply dropped off and was really inconsistent throughout his time in VP even struggled vs tier 3 teams etc. No excuse there.

They were going to get Luken from Sharks but it fell through, then they were pretty set on getting Bymas but he had issues so Moose is the 3rd option, imo it wont work. They needed the extra firepower Luken or Bymas could provide.
