FURIA end Road to Rio Group B undefeated; Envy, Liquid to quarter-finals
The final matches of Group B saw FURIA prevail over their Brazilian countrymen from MIBR to top their group with a flawless 5-0 record, while Envy and Liquid came out ahead of a three-way tie over MIBR.
Everything was on the line as the final matches of Group B got underway, with only FURIA assured of a berth in the playoffs. A Brazilian brawl for first place was on the cards between Andrei "arT" Piovezan and Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo's troops, with a win granting the winner with a direct ticket to the semi-finals.
However, a loss for MIBR would leave them at the behest of the remaining group results, while Liquid's lacklustre showings against Envy and FURIA earlier in the tournament put the North American roster in a dire spot of their own, requiring both a win against Yeah and a favourable result in the group tiebreakers to qualify for the playoffs.
FURIA came into the Brazilian derby brimming with confidence after winning their previous four matches, and they continued their dream start to the tournament with another 2-0 success. With close victories on Inferno and Vertigo, they secured a first-round bye in the playoffs and advance directly to the semi-finals.

Liquid made up for losses to Envy and FURIA as they made short work of Yeah to score their third win, dispatching of the Brazilian squad with one-sided wins on Inferno and Mirage. The series victory, combined with FURIA's win over MIBR, ensured Liquid a quarter-final spot, while MIBR's fate was left in the hands of Bad News Bears and Envy, the only series of the day to go the distance.
Envy seemed set to make short work of the matchup as they battered Peter "ptr" Gurney's side to kick off the series, taking a 16-4 win on Train. A back-and-forth brawl on Dust2 saw Bad News Bears fail to deny Envy a comeback from a 7-14 deficit, but a stellar showing from Michael "dapr" Gulino in overtime helped to force the series to a third map. There, Michał "MICHU" Müller led the march to a 10-5 offensive effort for his side, with the team managing to close out the map 16-11 to net themselves a spot in the playoffs.
