FURIA end Road to Rio Group B undefeated; Envy, Liquid to quarter-finals

The final matches of Group B saw FURIA prevail over their Brazilian countrymen from MIBR to top their group with a flawless 5-0 record, while Envy and Liquid came out ahead of a three-way tie over MIBR.

Everything was on the line as the final matches of Group B got underway, with only FURIA assured of a berth in the playoffs. A Brazilian brawl for first place was on the cards between Andrei "arT" Piovezan and Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo's troops, with a win granting the winner with a direct ticket to the semi-finals.

However, a loss for MIBR would leave them at the behest of the remaining group results, while Liquid's lacklustre showings against Envy and FURIA earlier in the tournament put the North American roster in a dire spot of their own, requiring both a win against Yeah and a favourable result in the group tiebreakers to qualify for the playoffs.

FURIA came into the Brazilian derby brimming with confidence after winning their previous four matches, and they continued their dream start to the tournament with another 2-0 success. With close victories on Inferno and Vertigo, they secured a first-round bye in the playoffs and advance directly to the semi-finals.

KSCERATO ended the Brazilian brawl with a 1.38 rating

Liquid made up for losses to Envy and FURIA as they made short work of Yeah to score their third win, dispatching of the Brazilian squad with one-sided wins on Inferno and Mirage. The series victory, combined with FURIA's win over MIBR, ensured Liquid a quarter-final spot, while MIBR's fate was left in the hands of Bad News Bears and Envy, the only series of the day to go the distance.

Envy seemed set to make short work of the matchup as they battered Peter "ptr" Gurney's side to kick off the series, taking a 16-4 win on Train. A back-and-forth brawl on Dust2 saw Bad News Bears fail to deny Envy a comeback from a 7-14 deficit, but a stellar showing from Michael "dapr" Gulino in overtime helped to force the series to a third map. There, Michał "MICHU" Müller led the march to a 10-5 offensive effort for his side, with the team managing to close out the map 16-11 to net themselves a spot in the playoffs.

The final standings for Group B of the North American division of ESL One: Road to Rio look as follows:

The tournament will resume on Wednesday with the first quarter-final meeting, with the upcoming match-ups being the following:

The biggest reason for FURIA not to do that is they give up semi spot for quarters bc Mibr will top the group if they win. And it's matchfixing but that's not out of the question

it is a three-way tie, it goes down to map differential in the matches between the tied teams. Envy is +1, Liquid is 0, MIBR is -1. Go look at the matches between these team and add em up.
2020-05-04 02:09
0
Liquid, Envy and mibr have 9 points and 5 maps, so it is a 3 way tie. In the 3 way tie: Liquid 2-0 mibr Envy 2-0 Liquid mibr 2-1 Envy ^^^(these are matches from the group stage for the playoffs) The results in maps for the 3 way tie breaker: Envy: +1 (3-2 maps) Liquid: 0 (2-2 maps) mibr: -1 (2-3 maps) So liquid and envy are qualified and mibr is out. I hope this makes sense lol
2020-05-04 02:36
0
2 way Tiebreak is h2h, but 3 way tiebreak is h2h map diff So since mibr, envy, liquid all tied, mibr won less maps against liquid/envy compared to envy vs liquid/mibr or liquid vs envy/mibr After that would be rd

I think you misunderstood me, by the rules its all fair but in my opinion since mibr beat envy they sould be in front of envy and since liquid beat mibr they should be in front of mibr. Even tho envy beat liquid they still couldnt beat mibr, a team that lost to liquid so they should stay behind mibr

Fallen, fer and kng are looking really good, taco is always doing the dirty roles.. and meyern is just there being a bot, need to replace him with a consistent rifler.

I would love to see them explain why they picked up Meyern in the first place, I've never seen any reason for him to go to a top team (mibr was, at the time) with felps still under contract. They need Boltz or felps back.

Already explained, they said they would gamble this time on a young talent that can be shaped to the system they play instead of picking a experienced player that might have problems with adjustment like they had with boltz, lucas and felps or the americans. We know felps has the firepower but he was somewhat out of place in mibr system specially in his second stint and he can be a diva sometimes... By that logic they went for Meyern cuz he was the hottest prospect from SA, talented young kid that somewhat proved himself in the region and was playing with brazilians already...altought i think picking him was questionable to say the least, they should now stick with him for at least a full year and see how he develops...

But you have to admit that Taco is the worst doing a dirty job. He doesn’t have enough firepower to do those roles.

TACO is very underrated, he is fine, selfless and it is not expected from him to be the star of the team. I hope they take felps back, he did well in 2017 when SK won everything

I understand that he is fine and selfless. But the excuse that he is the one doing the dirty job is not valid. Every team has entry's and single bomb holders and if you compare numbers among tier 1 teams, I am positive that he will have the worse stats on: dpr, clutches, first kill, surviving, assisting, anything... His performance is really bad last 6-8 months

If FURIA can go undefeated you know what was the level in the group. Envy went out of group? They were playing really bad recently. And Liquid are not at their best atm.

FURIA aren't a team that you should be happy from winning a map against. From Envy's point of view ofc. it's a big success, but Envy are playing really bad., they need some changes if they want to go higher than they are now. I don't see chances of them winning this rtr.

Depends , from point of view everyone wants to replace ryann but do not see that he might be the key communication guy and Envy needs to improve like lightning throughout those 2days to beat Cloud9 and later to pass onto Furia and u dont need to win RTR atleast make semifinals endup 3rd or 4rd and u have guarranted Major

Respect for not matchfixing between FURIA and MIBR. If MIBR would have won it would be strange.
