Jumpy to stand in for Kjaerbye in Road to Rio

Jimmy "⁠Jumpy⁠" Berndtsson will stand-in for Markus "⁠Kjaerbye⁠" Kjærbye for up to the remainder of ESL One: Road to Rio - Europe due to an illness on the player's part, North has announced.

The Danish organization announced the news shortly ahead of their penultimate match against Movistar Riders in the tournament's group stage, where they are currently sitting in tied-fifth place with a 2-3 record.

If Kjaerbye manages to recover before North's campaign in the tournament is over, the team will be allowed to revert the change according to Valve's Regional Major Ranking event rules.

Jumpy slots in for Kjaerbye

However, due to the substitution, the Danes will already suffer a 20% cut of the Regional Major Ranking points they earn in Road to Rio, and in case they opt to swap Kjaerbye back into the roster North's points would be reduced to 64% of the original value.

With six teams in the running for the second-fourth places in the group at the moment, a run to the playoffs looks unlikely albeit not impossible for Mathias "⁠MSL⁠" Lauridsen's team. Their fate hinges on the result against the Spaniards and against G2, whom North will face on Sunday, in addition to other results in the remainder of Group B.

North's lineup in ESL One: Road to Rio will be the following for the time being:

Yes, any roster change, permanent or temporary, reduces points by 20% per player changed.

it seems especially harsh due to the change being due to illness and not a roster change.

Also makes less sense since it's their coach and not someone outside of the organization

Hope he recovers but the 20 to 64% point reduction is total bullshit. Illness is something no one can control and comes out of no where. Especially with a coach standing in, the reducetion makes no sense imo. If it was a case in perhaps teams like Astralis and Ence to swap a player in and out then that makes sense to have the reduction in points. But when someone is unable to play for injury or illness there shouldn't be a point reduction.

So if I happen to break my arm and I cannot play an official, the whole team is getting punished for using another member of their roster... and in this case a coach ? What the fuck is wrong with ESL ? Imagine in regular sport the whole team getting lower points because one guy is ill or broke his leg or something (happens all the time in NBA for example), this would be chaos.
