pyth announces retirement

Former Ninjas in Pyjamas member Jacob "pyth" Mourujärvi has announced that he has retired from competitive Counter-Strike with immediate effect.

In a Twitlonger post, the 26-year-old explained that he is moving to VALORANT, a game that has given him "a new spark" after he was unable to return to his former heights in his last years playing CS:GO.

pyth is mostly known for his 18-month spell with Ninjas in Pyjamas, during which he attended the ESL One Cologne 2016 Major and won DreamHack Masters Malmö 2016 and IEM Oakland. Prior to his tenure with the Ninjas, he played for Swedish teams like SK Gaming and FlipSid3 Tactics, and spent almost eight months in North America competing for Luminosity, Mythic and Winterfox.

pyth calls time on his CS career

He found opportunities at the top of the order limited after being released by Ninjas in Pyjamas in June 2017, going on to represent teams like Chaos, Vexed and The Final Tribe. He played his last competitive match last month as a stand-in for SMASH.

"These past years (after NiP) I felt that I never managed to get back to the level I once was at," pyth wrote.

"I never found a place where I felt I belonged and it was hard to find the right groove with different projects. I learned so much from all the mistakes but also took with me the good stuff."

Plus: > Kids prefer cartoon games, so they stop playing CS as well > Valve gives more attention to CS, releases stuff more quickly But I also think Riot can damage the CS scene a lot by offering way higher tournament prizes, attracting tier 1 CS players.

I don't mind cartoon games when they have the hitreg I wish CSGO had. the fact people have to pay for 128 tick services for good MM or play on community servers instead of MM is crazy. at least riot has 128 tick, I wish valve would do same but they won't

Well Valorant isnt that fun aswell. Its hyped because its Riot's game with huge playerbase, bots farming keys, they threw pretty nice bait when they said they are giving only 25k keys. If they dont release more maps, playing three same maps all over again will be really boring aswell.

yeah but for now i just think they will fix bugs and improve performance, so far i cant see how can overthrow cs go in future, and if valve releases source 2 for csgo im sure valorant cant do anything about it. Some say on 18th May source 2 might be coming, maybe a teaser

Is that true though? An example is s1mple is already in a valorant team and they are signed up for a tournament already if the game pops off and he's good at it why would he stay on CS Go, you know Riot will throw shit tons of money at any game and force it into eSports that's what their known for they're like a more annoying shit version of Blizzard.

What we do know is that kind of inorganic growth development would make the game last shorter than the investment expected. Their scheme of "easy to reach developers" won't last that long after you get like 10k peak players. Ain't no developer gonna listen to all of those junk critics which came up from salty players. CS was started by a TF modder, who just happened to make the greatest FPS game for all time. It was famous, Valve saw the game development went overboard, took the chance to retake that development and voila you have 20 years of a never ending game. Valve did not force CS to be "an esport", the core game was already good and Valve majorly only helped to market the game and make sure that the game was still open for heavy modifications.

Exactly. But e-sports wasn't a "thing" back then, there is no term for this competitive game, and frankly there is no money involved. Vanilla CS is still alive only because it supports custom server which handled by community, keeping it alive without the developer actually spending that much money in it.

yes, exactly. we watch them play games. i dont even need to say more. pyth hasnt even played a LAN game against halfway decent opposition in almost three years. his online match history consists of mixteam appearances in cups i have never heard of. he was no exceptionally good player with NiP and after he left NiP his relevancy went to zero. i dont want to take his trophies away from him, all i'm saying is that he is just not relevant anymore and has not been so for three years. when i say he has no success, you guys know exactly what i mean. you guys just want to discuss a irrelevant topic. again, nice for him to have 2 trophies but holy shit this guy hasnt done anything outside of t4 in three. years. i dont call that very successful.

Him having been part of that NiP line up surrounded by legends remains one of the most bizar pick ups ever. A tier 4 nobody playing in NA getting recruited to NiP, be absolute dog shit most of the time yet remain on the roster for 18 months, truly mindbogglingly dumb.

If you actually watched the matches he was honestly a good player. NiP was dysfunctional as fuck and it wasn't due to a single player, it was a combination of things. Source: Am swedish.

He had a 0.94 and 0.93 rating in 2016 & 2017 (his NiP years), if you can't get a 1.00+ rating while playing in one of the better teams in the world for 18 months then maybe you shouldn't be part of the team for that long. He was a mediocre player who was in over his head from start to finish.

+1 . So overrated. He comes up with weird excuses always after losing a match. It was all f0rest and Getright. If only had they recruited a talented awper they would have won much more. F0rest and getright were really good those days.
2020-05-10 19:27

That still doesn't change the fact that NiP was dysfunctional as fuck and it wasn't one sole players fault that they didn't win. Xizt was still rocking 2013 tactics, Get Right was slumping and friberg had lost his touch at that point.

Valorant is just a game for the tier2/tier3 players, because in valorant they can be tier1/tier2 respectively. they literally move up a tier because of the low skill required to play.
