Liquid eliminate Gen.G from DreamHack Masters Spring - North America

Liquid came out on top against Gen.G in a two-map series to proceed through the DreamHack Masters Spring lower bracket, where they will face the winner of MIBR vs. Cloud9 next.

Despite a dodgy start with only one win out of three matches in the DreamHack Masters Spring - North America group stage, Liquid found better form in the first round of the lower bracket, blowing Gen.G out of the water on Damian "⁠daps⁠" Steele and company's map pick, Mirage, before closing the series out 2-0 on their own selection, Dust2.

Three kills by Jake "⁠Stewie2K⁠" Yip and two by Keith "⁠NAF⁠" Markovic gave Liquid the lead on the CT side of Mirage. Nick "⁠nitr0⁠" Cannella followed it up with multi-kills of his own as Gen.G quickly fell behind 0-8 before tallying their first round on the board. Despite losing a second in a row after that, Liquid charged on to a one-sided 12-3 half.

Russel "⁠Twistzz⁠" Van Dulken downed three in the second pistol round, all but sealing the deal on the first map as Liquid went on to reach match point uncontested. Gen.G dressed the scoreline up by winning three rounds, but ultimately went down 6-16 and trailed 0-1 going into the second map of the series.

Four kills by Jonathan "⁠EliGE⁠" Jablonowski put Liquid back ahead as they won the first pistol round on Dust2 cleanly. nitr0 then followed it up with a Galil ace against the forcebuy. Gen.G dismantled a B play with doubles by Sam "⁠s0m⁠" Oh and Hansel "⁠BnTeT⁠" Ferdinand to keep things close in the first gun round, making it 1-3, and were then able to equalize two rounds later as Kenneth "⁠koosta⁠" Suen won a 1vs1 AWP duel on B.

Liquid went back to leading 6-3 before Gen.G brought it back to within one, and although they lost a round to Glocks before tying it up, Timothy "⁠autimatic⁠" Ta and company were able to take an 8-7 lead at the half.

Liquid retook the lead on the CT side securing a 10-8 score before the first buy round and then went on to win the first round against rifles. EliGE then followed that up with an ace against another rifle buy to go up 12-8. Down 8-13 Gen.G started to put some rounds on the board, threatening a comeback as they got to within two, 11-13. Back-and-forth rounds saw the map go down to the wire, but Liquid sealed the deal in the thirtieth round to secure the map, match, and survival in DreamHack Masters Spring.
