FURIA defeat Yeah; TeamOne upset Cloud9 in DreamHack Open Summer

Two Brazilian teams claimed victory in the Group B opening matches of DreamHack Open Summer North America.

FURIA did not lose a step in their first match out of the player break as they kicked off their DreamHack Open Summer campaign with a two-map victory over Yeah, making short work of their Brazilian counterparts on map one before clinching a victory in thirty rounds on Mirage to close out the series.

It seemed as if the series would be over in fast fashion as Andrei "⁠arT⁠" Piovezan and company put up a stalwart defense to kick off their opponent's map pick of Inferno. A stellar showing from Henrique "⁠HEN1⁠" Teles saw the AWPer post a 23-4 K-D and 2.11 rating as FURIA gave Yeah no opportunity to get into the map, securing the victory 16-2.

The two teams were in closer contention at the onset of Mirage, but FURIA quickly regained control in the second half as they put themselves moments away from a victory with a string of six rounds. Eduardo "⁠dumau⁠" Wolkmer kept Yeah in the running as he put himself at the helm of a comeback effort, but the team were halted just shy of forcing overtime as FURIA closed out the map in round 30 for a 2-0 series victory.

HEN1 led the way for FURIA on Inferno

The second Group B opening match saw Cloud9 get off to a solid start against TeamOne, claiming revenge with an overtime victory on Nuke against the Brazilian side, who had secured a win on the same map in a best-of-one match for the Funspark ULTI North America qualifier on Saturday.

However, Johnny "⁠JT⁠" Theodosiou and company fell flat in the rest of the series as TeamOne emerged as the dominant side on Inferno and Dust2, making short work of Cloud9 with 16-4 and 16-5 scorelines, respectively, to earn a spot against FURIA in the winners' match.

Cloud9 will fight for their tournament lives on Monday as they take on Yeah in the Group B elimination match, while Triumph and Ze Pug Godz will face off on Tuesday in Group A to determine which team remains in contention. Meanwhile, Liquid and FURIA will look to top their groups as they go up against Chaos and TeamOne, respectively, for a spot in playoffs.
