MIBR eliminate FURIA from BLAST Premier Fall Series

The No.4-ranked team in the world have been sent to the Showdown tournament after cutting a frustrating figure against their Brazilian rivals.

MIBR live to fight another day in the BLAST Premier Fall Series following a 2-1 victory over FURIA in Group C's elimination stage. It was a forgetful night for Andrei "⁠arT⁠" Piovezan's charges, who looked deflated and unprepared against their brazen opponents in what was their second match on European soil. They will have almost three weeks to figure out what went wrong before the Showdown tournament, in which they will join 15 other teams fighting for just two spots at the BLAST Finals, including two old acquaintances in Evil Geniuses and Liquid.

With confidence running high after an impressive performance against Astralis, MIBR punished their opponents on the exact same maps on which they had looked strong against the Danes, Nuke and Vertigo. FURIA's response on Inferno — where MIBR had been overrun on Monday — was timid, and they almost let a 10-5 lead slip before pulling through in the end. MIBR's dominance on Vertigo was absolute as they finished the series on a high to set up an exciting clash against the new-look G2 side on Wednesday afternoon.

MIBR came out with all guns blazing in this Brazilian derby as they stormed to a 5-0 lead on the T side of Nuke, their own map pick. FURIA then finally woke up and took the upper hand after tightening up, ending the half with a narrow 8-7 lead.

MIBR move on to the decider stage to face G2

FURIA's fans were buzzing with anticipation as the team switched to the T side, but the mood soon turned to worry. Their offence lacked any real determination, and without Nicholas "⁠guerri⁠" Nogueira by their side, they were unable to devise a plan to break through the brick wall defence set up by their rivals, who gave up just round in the entire half en route to a 16-9 finish.

FURIA came out on Inferno looking a different side as they took the game to MIBR right from the offset, running all over their opponents' defense to grab a convincing 10-5 lead. Leonardo "⁠leo_drk⁠" Oliveira pulled off a 1v2 clutch in the second-half pistol to breathe new life into his team, who put some rounds together to equalise the score. But just when it seemed that the game was getting away from them, FURIA finally hit their stride. They shut out MIBR with a tight and compact defense led by Yuri "⁠yuurih⁠" Santos, who boasted a 1.74 rating and a 100% KAST in the half as his team locked up the map to force a decider.

arT's troops were unable to build on that momentum, however, as they had a rough start on Vertigo, where MIBR raced to a 7-1 lead with ease, with Alencar "⁠trk⁠" Rossato raising eyebrows with a 1v4 clutch early in the half. FURIA then finally found their footing thanks to great individual plays by yuurih and Kaike "⁠KSCERATO⁠" Cerato, but that was not enough to disrupt MIBR's rhythm as they ended the half with a commanding 11-4 lead.

More misery was to follow FURIA as they struggled to get in the game in the second half. They were unable to muster a single round on the T side — their best attempts quashed by Vinicius "⁠vsm⁠" Moreira — and bow out of the tournament with a frustrating performance that will not soon be forgotten.
