Valve releases Operation Broken Fang; adds premier matchmaking, ping system

The Broken Fang Premier matchmaking will include picks and bans prior to match start, as well as detailed stats for players.

The tenth operation for CS:GO, titled Operation Broken Fang, brings gameplay updates for all players as well as special features for those that opt to purchase the operation pass.

The dynamic ping system added to the game is the biggest gameplay update, as the new feature will allow players to mark where they spotted an enemy or where they want to move through a quick chat wheel.

Ancient is one of the newly added maps

The update that came as a part of the operation also brought seven new maps, including Ancient, Engage, and Apollo, that were added to the Scrimmage mode. From the existing maps, Cache has been updated, with excessive details removed, according to the patch notes.

For operation pass holders, the Broken Fang Premier matchmaking feature will be available, where a map veto phase will lead up to the match. Operation Broken Fang also brings a new set of weekly missions, a stats page, as well as agents, weapon collections, stickers, and patches.

I was aware of the mute feature. I right-click on them and mute them but i was just thinking it would a nice option to mute certain people only when they're dead and I'm alive. As it is, it usually isn't convenient to toggle the mute mid round. Valve has a suggestion box that they pay close attention to right? I'll send that over to them and we'll probably have it at the next update. *sarcasm*

I can definitely feel it. You get CSGO'd a lot less than on Valve servers and another advantage of faceit is that the people playing on their servers need to install their anticheat client etc first which requires at least 10 braincells and some basic hand-eye-coordination which removes around 50% of the mm playerbase who are beyond saving.

They did an experiment on this before where they put people on 64 and 128 tick server and 95% of the time they couldn't tell the difference, 128 tick is ever so slightly better but not noticeably for basically everyone, noobs just scream "fucking 64 tick servers" when they're playing shit.

Learn lineups for 64 ticks.. Besides, it's only jump throws that are different, and all the difference is that you aim slightly higher on 64 tick than you would do on 128 tick. As long as you throw the smoke when standing, the lineup is the same.

lmao sorry. That's just not true. Overpass is a prime example of why this is wrong. There's a T lurk smoke and CT spawn smoke, both for monster, which are really good for early B control. 128 tick lineups for both are really straight forward. The CT spawn lineup for 64 tick is really shitty with no point to go off of, and I still haven't found a 64 tick version for the T lurk.

Even if that is true, there are some crucial ones you can't get away with. Dust 2 B smokes are nearly pixel perfect, and get scuffed on 64. I've never found a window smoke that works on 64. And same thing for Overpass monster lurk, because there's like at least 4 bounces.

Obviously I'm not a Valorant developer, but I can make a few assumptions. Valorant is a more modern game, with many more (probably very competent and experienced) developers, which has given the game a very efficient and performant update algorithm. That is, the CPU time per tick in the cycle of: - Tick pre-processing - Sending the network request - Receiving the network request - Post processing Is optimized to be very short. Haven't played Valorant, but I've seen a few posts stating that their upload/download requirements when playing Valorant are high for an FPS, which suggests 128-tick coming into play. Chances are, if you have a network connection and PC only just capable of playing CS:GO at 64-tick, you won't be able to play Valorant smoothly on 128 tick servers.

Strictly speaking, a game programmed using DX9 will not strictly be slower than a game programmed in DX12/Vulkan, it all depends on the skill of the programmers and if they utilise the more performant features the newers APIs offer over the older ones (particularly CPU-GPU concurrency and synchronization). This a probably why Valorant performs much better - a very skilled dev team (RIOT) + newer API (DX 11)

There have been commands made by Valve developers to the state of the code of CSGO and they basically said, that anybody who doesn't work on CSGO fulltime has no way off understanding the mess that they have created. I really do agree with you, there should be an option to be able to queue for 128-tick servers on MM, but Valve would have to pay for the higher performance servers (ha). My point was, if CS:GO suddenly switched to fully 128 tick servers like some ignorant people keep spamming in threads for, it would be unfair on players with low end PCs and/or network connections, as they wouldn't be able to keep up with the high processing and network speed requirements to play smoothly.

Well they should just change their computers then. The game has been out for 8 years, maybe at some point it has to evolve right? Just imagine how bad it is when the vast majority of people that want to play a bit seriously have to do it on a third party program. Yes the game does need to evolve to 2020, the game would have been designed for 64 tick because it was released in 2012. Ideally, Valve should host 64 tick and 128 servers, which can be configurable by the client. Doing so would probably come with a high cost to Valve, so who knows if they think the jump would be worth it rn

I think it's too late. They are probably afraid of losing more players due to increased required specs, when in fact it would attract back a lot of people in dire need of new challenges and a real standardized way of playing the game and showing your skill. I'm waiting for the day the CS community will finally be united on the same platform and the same skill measurements with clear challenges to grind with VALVE behind pushing it.

CS was always designed to be played like that. The whole spirit of CS is not giving a f*ck about casual players. Ideally whole MM system should be dumped as it was a bad idea from the beginning. CS is meant to be played competitively not casually. MM was created only to bring bigger player base and sort few % that will proceed with their individual development and go FACEIT/ESEA. I can't stress it enough, nobody in Valve or E-sport world care about MM mode. It exists only because other games with theit shitmodes forced it. CS was always about: playing a bit individually on public server -> finding league or tournament to participate in -> joining or creating a team to FINALLY play CS as it should be played - WITH TEAM -> play scrims, develop strats, learn smokes and flashes, compete, compete, compete.

Cause they exist only because of the flaws of the MM system. I want a standardized version of CS, with clear objectives, a united community and platform, a real drive to grind the ladder. I dont like having two, three, four communities separated that play on different platforms and different skill measurements. I want the real package with VALVE behind pushing it and bringing the experience to a new level.

You can involve the community in a lot of different ways. I understand that Valve has a different approach between CS and Dota and they want to experiment with different ways of dealing with the competitive side of it with a more open source approach to CS, but I dont like it for MM. We could have weekly competitions directly into the game, regional rankings, qualifiers for minor leagues with rewards, automated mini tournaments between teams with same ranking, a more top to bottom approach to competition that would push newcomers to take the game more seriously, a real sense of accomplishment. And A LOT of other things that Valve could implement if they were willing to take things in their own hands a bit more. Of course 3rd party programs could still exist but they would have to bring a lot more to the table than just "we have 128 tick, ELO and bans, lol".

I think it's coming with the engine upgrade soon. They wouldn't call it Premier and keep it 64tick forever. They released a TF2 update as well, which no one expected. Considering the pandemic, I'm surprised they actually released this. It's bigger than the last Operation by far.

Actually fucking hype, they didnt do anything on the anniversary and they haven't done shit since Valorant became irrelevant so it's actually nice to see Valve adding some fun content into the game for us to enjoy. It's hard not to mention Valorant because when that game had all the hype, we got more updates in those couple months then we get in few years. I'm happy for other shooting games to come out with a lot of popularity it makes Valve actually work on their games. CS Go is so old now they have to try to preserve their loyal fan base, new fags comes and goes all the time but it won't sustain this game anymore it's just to old and at least they trying when other games are popular that's why I mention Valorant.

To be honest this update/operation is not that great. I mean cool, you do a premier MM with stats and shit, but wasn't that a thing before done by ESL or something like that? Maps are pretty meh, maybe refreshed Aztec will be worth a try. I'm also not sure about pinging system. Cool, they are adding new gameplay changes that helps people without microphones, but I think we have almost 2021 and people still doesn't use mics is pretty annoying and I really don't understand how can you not communicate with your team, since its a game based on teamplay. It will make players to not talk even more. Skins? I couldn't care less about them, this game is becoming an art gallery, showcase or something. Only cool part is retakes mode, but let's see if its time limited for the operation. I don't know how big of a difference it is in optimisation, can anyone confirm that? Other than that pretty shitty operation, that was expected on this abandoned by devs game. 80% of this work (mostly skins) were made by community. Have a good 2 years sleep csgo devs :)

Maybe I'm in the minority for which it helps, but I think the new ping system is great. Amazing for accessibility to the game, whether you are bad at English or you are unable to use a mic for some reason or other (like me) it's so fucking good. Just wanted to warn people against spending 12½ euro on the operation pass. Full disclosure, i have plenty money but the pass just feels like such a gimmicky scam that i regret spending my money out of principle. I read somewhere that you could choose 128-tick MM, which is my own fault for not researching properly, but what exactly DO we get from this pass?? As far as i can see you get 3 things: map veto, more stats and missions. The map veto doesn't really change anything.... you have ALWAYS had the ability to choose exactly what map(s) you wanted to play. Whether you solo q or play premade you could always choose the maps. So now you basically just have a chance of playing maps you dont wanna play. Thats literally all the map veto adds for us - the chance of playing maps we dont like. The stats? There has been a lot of stats for a long time. You have had the ability to check ADR, utility dmg, flash assists etc.... they just made them more visible i guess?? Finally there are the missions, which i personally dont care about at all. Fair enough if you want to run around on some casual server jump scouting people or w/e its asking for, but imo and in the opinion of everyone i know and play with, only the casual noobs will want to do missions. So i ask you HLTV, wtf did we pay 12.5 euro for???
