Ethan leaves Evil Geniuses, moves to VALORANT*

Evil Geniuses have announced they are parting ways with the 20-year-old, who will be pursuing a career in VALORANT.

Ethan "⁠Ethan⁠" Arnold has become the first Evil Geniuses player to part ways with the team since the North American organization acquired the squad from NRG in September of 2019, doing so to join 100 Thieves' VALORANT division.

The American rifler, who became the 20th best player of 2019 shortly after joining EG, was part of the squads that won IEM Shanghai 2018 and cs_summit 3, while under the NRG tag, and ESL One New York 2019, StarSeries i-League Season 8, BLAST Premier Spring 2020 Americas Finals, cs_summit 6 North America and ESL One Cologne 2020 North America in Evil Geniuses.

Ethan, who also made the playoffs at the StarLadder Major in Berlin, was named MVP in two of his team's aforementioned victories, on LAN at StarSeries i-League Season 8 and at ESL One Cologne 2020 North America during the online era.

Ethan has left Evil Geniuses to pursue a career in VALORANT

Ethan hit No.1 in the team ranking with Evil Geniuses twice, once in October of 2019 and once in September of 2020, albeit briefly on both occasions. After the second time, however, Evil Geniuses dipped into a slump at the turn of the year, falling to No. 18, a low for EG.

The American's departure comes after a slew of middling results on European soil for Evil Geniuses, who were recently eliminated from IEM Katowice 2021 in 9-12th place with a victory over Gambit in the first round of play followed by losses to G2 and Astralis.

Evil Geniuses hadn't been able to make much of a mark in their previous tournaments since the beginning of the year, when their sojourn in the old world began, falling out of the BLAST Premier Spring Groups in 4-6th place and finishing 5-6th at both DreamHack Open January and the BLAST Premier Global Finals.

Update: Ethan made a statement shortly after EG's announcement, saying "I will be leaving CS and officially moving over to VALORANT starting today. I've met many people through CS that I can now call friends and I'm extremely grateful for that. I've also made unforgettable memories that some people could only dream of experiencing. The one thing I ask is if you've supported me this long, you follow me into the next chapter of my career and I promise I will not let you down. I'm excited for this new challenge and I can't wait to give it my all over at 100Thieves."

ISSAA performs well considering his issue with latency. But benching NBK who has more of a support role... I am really not convinced of this. The in-game leading of Aleksib is the problem; How many times have you seen hesitation in the gameplan when they kill 3 guys and clear an entire zone but hold the place for 30 sec. I hope to be wrong on that, let see who will replace NBK and what happens in EPL.

Yeah most likely, or he doesn't wanna move to Europe and doesn't see a future for na cs. Overall only a handful of actually skilled or otherwise worthwhile players switched and most of them only recently, overall a lot of the players that went over were kinda shit or average at best. I suspect this might be a bad thing for valorant and hinder the improvement/growth of teams and maybe even the scene, at least in na, because they like to hold onto washed up or unproven players way too long instead of giving someone else a shot.

The difference is exactly the mechanics, that's the literal point where those players were bad, but since Valorant is a much easier game to aim, the characters are bigger and slower, those "boomers", and "washed up", players that have lots of knowledge about gaming, but are lacking skillwise for CSGO wich is a much faster and harder to aim and shoot game, are perfect for Valorant. Hazed wasn't a good enough aimer in CS for example, but in Valorant he pretty much can hit his shots on a more consistant bases, wich makes his knowledge of gaming the most important thing.

This is something I can agree to. CSGO is full of cheaters, and Valve just doesn't care. Also new glitches coming up, like seeing objects through walls etc. Performance is total shit unless you buy a 2000€ computer for game that is older than you. There haven't happened any good update except some new maps. Nowadays can't even see opponents from background, and these things can't be adjusted to the best, even though some help is available. I've played only few games of valorant and soon decades of cs, but these are just something they need to fix in order to keep the game up

Yep, it's so sad that Valve ignore their amazing game. 128 tick, better anti-cheat, battle pass like they do for TI in Dota. I still think CS is the much better game because of the high skill ceiling (shooting mechanics, all the different movement skills) and the map design is sooo much better. But Valorant is still a young game, it's very possible they continue to improve it. At least Riot is working on their game. CS will die in NA and eventually only exist in EU/CIS.

I give Valorant 2-3 years maximum unless Epic keeps dumping absurd amounts of money just to keep the competitive scene alive. Otherwise, we are probably looking at Overwatch v2.0 It's just not the type of game that is built for long-term success. And IMO they fucked up big time by establishing a monopoly on skin purchases and restricting trading. It will definitely hurt them in a long run.

They are just pumping money into the valorant scene so it looks like the scene is relevant, kinda like dying games like blizzards overwatch NA players Are just trying to get the sweet money out of it as soon as they can, especially considering there are no relevant csgo events in NA anyway anymore, it’s just less stress for more money for the players I don’t judge them for that decision but I cannot really take these players serious anymore either (I can only understand it on players like steel or jamppi) but I expect most of them to snake their way back into the cs scene as soon as the valorant bubble pops anyway
