The 25-year-old in-game leader is now a free agent.

Alex "⁠ALEX⁠" McMeekin is no longer tied to Cloud9, the British player announced on Twitter on Thursday. Now a free agent, he revealed that he will consider his options in both Counter-Strike and VALORANT.

Less than a month after Cloud9 put its CS:GO division on hold, ALEX exits the North American organization, which still has four players under contract. The departing in-game leader praised his former teammates, saying all of them "would make a great addition to any team".

ALEX is open to offers as a free agent

"Moving forward I’ll be assessing all of my options within Counter-Strike & VALORANT", ALEX wrote in the announcement, hinting at a possible move away from the game in which he has been competing since 2014. Interested parties can contact ALEX via email or Twitter DMs.

Meanwhile, a quartet of CS:GO players is still on Cloud9's roster, including Patrick "⁠es3tag⁠" Hansen whose three-year deal was valued at $2,100,000. The future of the Dane, as well as that of William "⁠mezii⁠" Merriman, Erick "⁠Xeppaa⁠" Bach, and Ricky "⁠floppy⁠" Kemery, remains uncertain.

his brain didn't understand what you meant by quake. both games work so very much differently where the other is all about positioning and angles.. quake is all about controlling the arena and the character moves so fast in the game anyway that it doesn't make sense to hold any specific position.

This has to be bait. I dont know another IGL that has taken such little talent and made them a genuine competitor in tier 1. Keep in mind Alex had never had a bootcamp with his team just played online. Not to mention the team was literally thrown together within 3 weeks to meet the flashpoint deadline and its well known alot of the players C9 wanted they couldnt get. So keep that in mind and look at some of the things they accomplished: - Took a map off Gambit at ESL Pro League (Best team in the world right now) - Beat Na'vi in a best of 3 at ESL Pro League - Dreamhack Masters they had a close series to Heroic losing 16-14 and 16-13 - CS Summit had a close series against Furia 2-1 and lost one map 16-14 - CS Summit beat NiP in a best of 3 - Blast Premier beat Complexity in a best of 3 Alex managed to do all of that after losing the coach early on, losing woxic the only star talent within the team. Having fucking Mezii a no namer who actually shined with Alex. 2 upcoming NA talents (Not star talents) to work with. No veteran unless you consider Es3tag one. Literally the guy did wonders on C9 without him that team would have NEVER had a chance against any team let alone tier 1

"they had a close series" means as much as "chaos ec had close series vs. liquid" but the team needed to be together for that energy to work, floppy and Xeppa were hungry for LANs and now i reckon it's harder for influence from Alex and es3tag to rub off on them. it's a shame, alex very good IGL, to EG would be a good fit perhaps if they're both loose that like to play off of their individuals. stan's attitude is questionable at best, could energize Brezhe and Cerq, recycle oBo etc.

It makes sense from a commercial standpoint. If they let them leave as free agents they’ve only sunk probably a couple hundred thousand on wages. If they try and sell them they have to continue paying their wages which costs more money. The players market value is at rock bottom now so any buyout would be for a notional sum. C9 as an org just want out and who could blame them.

Well for CS pro's it's now additional career option. I work as a programmer and in my field (embedded) some people overlook other fields (e.g. web programming) to be stupid, simple and total shit show. Every library has a brand of its own etc... But from my point of view I could easily work as web programmer too, even though I don't generally like JavaScr0pt as a language.

I might disagree, valorant does not have so many agents yet, it is pretty easy to jump in and learn them. If you how ever have pro mechanics from cs, you will do well in valorant with a little practice. Lol and dota have sooo many items, characters and skills so to change you need to learn all these to the detail of a pro, there is much more to learn in knowledge side. Cs and valorant are very simple in this knowledge side compared to lol and dota.
