G2 oust Virtus.pro from DreamHack Masters Spring, advance to quarter-finals

The Kovač cousins starred for their team to help G2 clinch a playoffs spot.

G2 have eliminated Virtus.pro from DreamHack Masters Spring following a 2-0 victory in Group A's lower bracket final, securing a spot in the quarter-finals. In the first round of the playoffs, the Nemanja "nexa" Isaković-led side will face the losing side from tomorrow's Group B upper bracket final between Astralis and HEROIC on Friday.

Virtus.pro took control of Vertigo early on, courtesy of triples from Aleksei "Qikert" Golubev and a 2v4 retake on the B bombsite spearheaded by Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis, but despite the CIS-based side amassing an 8-1 lead on the CT side the map wasn't quite as decided as it would seem.

G2 are through to playoffs at DreamHack Masters

nexa's 1v2 clutch and a couple of close afterplant round wins gave the French-Balkan squad a way back in, and after halftime they went on to dominate on the CT side, where Audric "JACKZ" Jug denying Qikert a 1v3 attempt helped G2 drive the map home late.

nexa's squad put together another impressive defense when the series turned to Inferno, with Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač's triple in the pistol round and François "amanek" Delaunay's 1v2 clutch helped deny Virtus.pro early ground. Two more clutches from nexa soon saw G2 claim a 13-2 half and secure the series after some early struggles in the second half.

Yekindar is looking way too good, that's why they are getting these results rn, and he is able to play like that cuz it's online, same with shiro and nafany and axile on gambit

I think sh1ro and ax1le are a different case than yekindar. They play kinda smart. They remind me of s1mple and electronic.

If a pro player starts to lose confidence just coz of some random haters online, then it's a shame. Dont worry he only had a bad day.

No, it's just a bad game, everyone has them. Look at s1mple ZywOo occasionally. You don't need to make excuses when none is necessary.

Recent results are slumpy for VP, because YEKINDAR stopped making those entry frags that he was making consistently. I wish he returns his beast form, it was pretty fun to see all those triggered Liquid-Astralis kids accusing him cheating.

I completely agree with you but we have no idea if YEKINDAR's occasional off games are directly related to these accusations; as like you stated, it's hilarious seeing how daft some of the witch-hunts are. If you are so good you get accused of being a cheater in a more direct fashion, that is a mark of pride, not a mark of sorrow. Yes, different pros will handle it differently and YEKINDAR is still young but if YEKINDAR knows he isn't cheating, he has nothing to prove and therefore shouldn't react personally to this. Until we have more resolute answers, I don't think the slump in form is directly related to this, friend.

Well G2 still struggless a lot with the lack of an AWPer, but win is a win, GJ by them. Idk. what's going on with VP but they lost the thing that was working for them, getting map control early on and then slowing down, now they get countered, they make a lot of mistakes, and it just doesn't work.
