adreN named new Liquid coach
The coach with whom the organization won seven international titles has retaken his old spot behind the North American team.
Liquid have announced the addition of Eric "adreN" Hoag, who has been named as the team's new head coach after the North American side parted ways with Jason "moses" O'Toole on Monday. The 31-year-old returns to the organization for a third stint after spending the last nine months playing alongside the likes of David "DAVEY" Stafford and Erik "fl0m" Flom in Mythic.
adreN previously played under the organization in 2015-2016 before transitioning to the role of a coach as he rejoined Liquid in late 2018. The team went on to win seven titles over the course of the following eight months with the veteran behind them, including five consecutive trophies as well as the second Intel Grand Slam season, and became the No. 1 side in the world for 18 weeks in a row.

After having been released from the organization in mid-2020, which saw Liquid replace Nick "nitr0" Cannella with Michael "Grim" Wince and bring in moses as the new coach, adreN reunites with some of his former teammates at a time when they are undergoing another transitional period following their decision to transfer in-game leadership duties from Jake "Stewie2K" Yip to Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo.
"You don't always know what you have until you don't, and I think that is the case with regards to Eric," Liquid's co-CEO Victor Goossens said in the announcement. "What he brought to the team strategically was just incredible. Now that we have the roster that we have today, we feel strongly that Eric is the coach for us to take us to the next level."
"My expectations this time joining Liquid are going to be a little bit different than when I joined in 2019," adreN added. "In 2019 the team was coming off a lot of success already and a great 2018 year, and coming into that team I was expecting us to be the best. This time around, the landscape in CS is a little bit different. The goal is the same as always, but I think it's going to be a lot harder this time to establish that No. 1 spot."
With their old coach back, Liquid will be hoping to stabilize after they initially showed promise once the Brazilian took over the reins before their latest European campaign ended with the team eliminated in the first round of playoffs of ESL Pro League Season 13 and in last place of the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown at the hands of Dignitas.
Liquid's first official showing with adreN will take place in the first North American Regional Major Ranking of 2021, cs_summit 8, which will run from May 20-30 and feature FURIA, Evil Geniuses, EXTREMUM, and four qualified sides.
The North American team's roster is now the following:
Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski
Keith "NAF" Markovic
Jake "Stewie2K" Yip
Michael "Grim" Wince
Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo
Eric "adreN" Hoag (coach)
