ESL announces live player POV streams ahead of DH Masters Spring playoffs

The experimental feature will premiere in the opening playoff match between Astralis and G2 on Friday.

ESL has announced player point-of-view (POV) streams as an experimental broadcast feature for the playoff stage of DreamHack Masters Spring. Ten streams will be available showcasing each player's perspective and can be accessed by heading to ten different ESL Twitch streams.

Viewers can select any player in the server to watch to understand how each competitor approaches the game and develop their own skillsets by taking notes on positioning, decision making, nade lineups, and more.

'See it through their eyes' feature to debut at DH Masters Spring playoffs

The POV streams will not enable player cams for this event to minimise chances of any complications, but DreamHack has stated that it will be implemented in the future if the feature is well received. The usual spectator X-ray will be turned off to provide a "closer representation of what the player sees," although both teams will be visible on the radar due to the server settings.

Astralis vs. G2 will be the first match to utilise the new feature on Friday at 16:45 followed by the clash between FURIA and Natus Vincere. The remaining playoff matches will also have POV streams, with the information on the DreamHack website and social media being updated on each match day.

If it doesn't affect players' comfort then I think it's cool. But if it, even in the slightest, makes their game less responsive/internet slower/computer lag/game lag, then I think it's pointless, as having 100% right environment is the key to competitiveness. If this feature will make players play even 0.1% worse because of technical issues then I hope they speak out and don't do it anymore. It's a nice experiment tho.

Here's another idea: PLEASE START STREAMING IN 4K ON YOUTUBE. 1080p Twitch streams look horrible even on 1080p monitors. 6000Kbps is clearly not enough to compress the data efficiently. High quality 1080p streams at 60fps require at the very least 22Mbps, not 6000Kbps. Youtube's 4K streaming is also far from perfect but it gives a much much better picture quality than Twitch'es 1080p.

We will not be airing the team comms constantly, this is due to the sensitivity and privacy of the teams and players. Similar to why you only see snippets of the team comms used live, ie cheers on winning moments or otherwise clips that wouldn't reveal anything tactically or exposure bad language that we have no way to monitor with the amount of languages spoken from attending teams.
