Akuma deny team involvement in betting on own matches

The Ukrainian side are ready to cooperate with the investigation into suspicious bets placed by their former boss.

Dmytro "SENSEi" Shvorak has posted a statement on behalf of Akuma, responding to ESIC receiving evidence of the former Project X CEO Oleksandr Shyshko having placed bets on "highly suspicious Project X matches" at a time when the core of Akuma represented the organization.

The 22-year-old AWPer, who was playing under Project X in the matches in question, has denied his team's involvement in betting on their own matches, adding that the players "cannot be responsible for our ex-CEO's activities on betting websites." The team has also offered to provide ESIC with all necessary information.

SENSEi & co. are ready to cooperate with the investigation

Although ESIC has brought the case to light after receiving evidence of Shyshko's betting activities through the Suspicious Betting Alert Network (SBAN), the commission is not currently planning on launching a full investigation into the matter, as it does not have the jurisdiction to do so given that the tournament organizers responsible for the matches in question are not partnered with ESIC. Instead, the esports watchdog has referred the evidence to Valve "for further consideration."

The information has placed Akuma under heavy fire from the community, adding to the widespread suspicions that the Ukrainian side were receiving live match data to gain an unfair advantage during their matches at the EPIC League CIS Regional Major Ranking event, in which they secured convincing victories over Natus Vincere and Virtus.pro en route to third place. Several high-profile figures in the CIS region share the suspicions of foul play, including the vast majority of the teams who took part in the tournament, who have called on Valve to investigate the allegations and enforce strict protocols to help prevent live match data from being abused at future events.

Gambit 2 different rosters? LG? C9? Chaos? Many others? Flukes are no myth man. They happen. But when they happened in the past usually no one cared and the team got praise. But now it’s cheating because they looked at their radars (???) I believe they are clean. This post proves NOTHING in terms of akuma cheating and says nothing of importance regarding their cheats. It offers nothing and the only thing it achieved is more speculation (“OMG THEIR PREVIOUS ORG’S OWNER BET ON THEIR MATCHES AND THEY WON!!”). Either way, this is my opinion. Yours may differ. But one thing I know for sure - I will consider them innocent until there is factual(!) proof they are not. For now, we can only wait for more news. If there aren't any - well, you’ll have to accept that they didn't cheat (like the Brazilians did when chaos news... never came)

Gambit winning the major was a hot streak, but they didnt destroy the top teams in the world, and people dont give the individuals on that team as much credit as they deserve, they were good and then they culminated to a strong run when it mattered. The new roster makes total sense as with how long they were together, for a few years, grinding until they were ready to start taking down T1. C9's wins were all a struggle as well. They werent 16-2ing anyone. Chaos were up and coming NA players that beat a bunch of has-been BRs. If anyone thought that MiBR was functioning as a tier 1 team by the time they lost to Chaos they are delusional. If it wasnt Chaos it was other BR orgs. And to put a bow on this, all of what you listed were LANs. When an upset happens at a LAN its just that, a true upset. When you have a team come out the woodwork like Akuma with the shady past they have individually, then yes you will get put under a microscope.

Alright, since you want to argue so bad, I’ll respond to you as well. 1) I can give you examples of a lesser team beating a better team with a scoreline that wasn't tight. The examples I gave you are just a few that came to mind right away. But let’s look at something else. The spotlight has been on akuma, but let’s not forget about entropiq. hltv.org/matches/2348762/natus-vincere-v.. The same event. Etropiq 2-0 navi hltv.org/matches/2348874/entropiq-vs-vir.. The same event. Etropiq 2-0 VP hltv.org/matches/2348991/entropiq-vs-vir.. hltv.org/matches/2349128/natus-vincere-v.. The same event. Etropiq loosing to both of these teams 0-2. Literally the exact same scenario as with akuma but they got rekt by BOTH the teams they beat in round 1 the 2nd time around. Yes, they didn't destroy their opponents the first time like akuma but it just shows that anything can happen on these shitty RMR’s. 2) the majority of akuma have been together since 18/2/2020 and they’ve been around for a loooong time. All 5 of the akuma players are extremely high elo faceit puggers. Psycho is PsychoFine and he was (or still is, dunno) the highest rated player in the history of faceit in terms of elo. 3) nope, C9 was straight up smashing their opponents. Out of all the maps they won, in only 3 their opponents got double digits. 2 of these maps were in the grand final. 4) chaos were still heavy underdogs, even playing with a stand in. They still won the 1st map 16-6 and the Brazilians had the same amount of evidence you do - clips and rumors. 5) chaos thing was online 6) only 1 player in akuma has a shady past. And yet again, his past is only shady because of unproven rumors. P.s This event was a CIS RMR. An event where shit happens all the time, mainly because teams like navi, vp etc don't care about these points that much, while for smaller teams it’s an amazing opportunity to show what they are capable of against tier 1 teams. Look at the previous CIS RMR’s and see how many completely nonsensical upsets happened there

LOL I absolutely love how none of you can come up with coherent arguments yet you all go out of your way to try and offend me. The only fact here is that there is no actual proof that akuma cheated. Nothing else to say

Man, I'm sorry yet there's hardly any other explanation why would one seriously ignore the complex of those fishy moments with Akuma eventually summing everything up and saying something like 'they are innocent'. Fuck, man, noone's guily until proven otherwise yet this aint the case when you suddenly violently arrest and detain a 5 yo boy for killing someone with an axe. There is too much fishyness in order to stay by this side after weighing everything in and deciding to ignore this amount of clips, rumours, chats that are somewhat implying these allegations are not injustified. Not to mention it is a well-known fact now that technically there were all the circumstances (which is again a whole different question how was that possible) to do what people think they did. Basically you tell me the safe's door wasn't locked and the burglar refused to take any money, even tho his bank account info says he recently became richer. That's why there's hardly any offense in that 'you must be retarded' phrase. It's all water under the bridge, may your opinion be with you.

So you just rephrased what I said (that there is no factual proof) and added a wall of useless text to it? I am not a person that accepts “fishy” moments (which I do not find fishy btw, they were looking at their radars, which is completely normal), rumors and chats as evidence. The circumstances (as in no delay on the stream) are indeed a decent argument, but is there any proof that akuma used this to their advantage? And how would they even do that? Are you implying they have some kind of an agreement with tournament organizers? Anyways, as I said, until a reliable source (VK chats are not a reliable source) confirms they are cheaters I will continue to defend them

So I didnt bring up any factual info, you highlighted that fact to later on come up with a wall of text as well? Nice to see. Well, wasnt really reading into that, I told you your opinion is all up to you. Let's hope people you meet would be as trustful towards you as you are towards those who prefer staring into the radar in 2v1 situation instead of their crosshair.

Thing is, I stare at my radar all the time as well. The reason is simple: people don't give sufficient amounts of info in pugs. It’s a pretty bad habit for officials where info is good but it’s a necessity if you want to improve on faceit. These akuma guys have some insane amounts of elo (a bit under 10k I think) so my guess would be that they have this habit as well

Just dont listen to people without valid points. They probably have never even seen a demo. If you look for fishy clips, you will always find them. People are still saying cadian hacks when he has been a top player for yeeaaars based off not even fishy clips.

You wasnt looking through the demos as well. Even if, your and that guys opinion is straight opposite to what 95% of pro players, coaches, analysts etc say after actually watching em. So I dont actually get why would you write smth like that. Ofcourse people tend to believe those who watched thousands of demos stating Akuma 16-4 wins against navi without actually practicing is bs both on paper and after watching the demos, staring into radar etc.

Staring into the radar and not practicing are signs of evidence that a team cheated. All i am saying is that if there is no inarguable evidence, then hate shouldnt be spread.

Im a bit late to the party but this is like Flusha all over again. People witch hunting him for years because of "fishy clips". And yet he remains unbanned. Why? Because he didnt cheat. And the term "innocent until proven guilty" definitely applies here. Its just another witch hunt that will lead to nothing.
2021-06-29 13:38

welp, things that you compare aint the same if you look into it: flusha's accusations werent based of webcam footage where he was seen doing some absolutely weird shit. What is even more important here IMO: flusha did not have such a background as those shitters. These concerns about akuma guys are also based of many rumours/screenshots/weird stuff that overall slightly imply these guys might be shady idd. So when the whole thing happened and accusations arose, those glimpses onto the radar (sometimes staring into it) were not the only reason for questioning the legitimacy of those fucktards. I'm sorry to say it, but I'd like to stress it once again: everyone doubting the fishyness of that Akuma's quali generally speaking is someone who you don't really want to argue with. You know? Like 'Yeah, mate, Earth's flat, alright. W/e mate'

cheating in CS GO is really worth it atm it has never been so hard to make money on the scene and play for a real org, players can easily do anything they want (fix matches, throw, cheat), make enough money to live for 2+ years and then move on to valorant and try to have a career there i don't blame akuma at all, in the end they need to make money to live their dream and they wouldn't make it if they kept playing legit, why not make as much money possible in shady ways before moving on to another game?

it's probably against the law in almost every country in the world, but the point is, how many countries will actually try to send them to jail for this? it's a "minor" crime and the justice don't have enough people to investigate all "small cases" in the country the maximum it will happen to akuma is losing the rights to play the game professionally, but as I said, is it that bad for them? they can just move on to another game

Wait, in what world is it a minor crime? It's criminal here in Australia, up to 10 years in prison. It's theft and 'organised crime' mate, I wouldn't want to live anywhere that didn't consider that serious crime.

exactly! this is probably very common in low tier games, akuma just went too far in trying to do it in a important tournament instead of throwing games like loot bet as I said I really don't blame them, they need to make money to survive and this is a very low risk move and an opportunity that a lot of people would take even though it's very unettical

Honestly it is hard to blame tier 3 players without an org, literally throwing to put food on the table. In this case its very hard to catch as well, but Akuma took it too far. I'm pretty sure these players used some kind of cheat/exploit to beat legit teams in an RMR event, all while coordinating with their CEO who already pays them a salary to get extra money from betting.

a lot of cs players leave school to play cs go, and the average pro career lasts 10 years for the best players that have touched the game after retiring they still have 65% of their lifes left to live, but at this point they're too old to study and get a high paying job, so they're left without qualifications and the only thing they know is how to play a game by no means i'm saying this justifies matchfixing, but how many people would skip the chance to fix a game and make enough money to live a year confortably? it still makes them trash people but i'm pretty sure 80% of people would to the same in their places

If the there is no evidence found that any of the players were placing these bets, and no evidence found that the players told their ex-ceo to put the bets on or had any involvement in it whatsoever, then it would be very harsh if they punished the team for something they couldn't control.

Massive investigation would be real solution. Tier 3 scene would struggle in such scenario but it still need to be cleansed. My point wasn't about not to ban Akuma. I meant that it's shame that only in case when community reacts investigation happens. And also no one is talking about real reason of betting scandals. Tier 3 teams often have no salary and need money to earn somehow. They are sure they wont be put into a prison for such actions (especially 3rd world country's citizen like CIS countries) they feel free to attend in lets say "legal" crime especially when they are sure that they are bad enough to win money by winning tournaments.

1. The reason this is being investigated instead of other Tier 3 scandals is they did it AT AN RMR EVENT FOR THE MAJOR! 2. Why would CIS players play for an org that isn’t paying them? Do contracts not mean anything in CIS countries?

because in terms of advertise CIS fans are useless. They spend not that much money on merch\partner devices compared to rich countries. Also majority of CIS CS playerbase, unfortunately, consist of kids and juniors who has less paying abilities then adults. Thus partners offer less money for advertisement. Spending culture is only in the beginning of developing in CIS countries cause it only passed 30 years since USSR disappeared and it takes time to grow new generations with another mindset. In around 2050 I guess CIS will be much better region in terms of everything.

The difference being that the TO of a Valve-sponsored RMR event did not normalise standards and regulations that is required of a TO... This is a full-blown scandal at the highest level where it shouldn't be possible despite cheating always being treated as a possibility.

LoL, he says that didn't bet on theirself, but CEO of Project X were betting on them or against them, so he 100% knew the outcome, it means that players didn't bet on their matches but participated in match-fixing, so after the match CEO could share the winnings with them.

Can the people in the comment section please stop spreading racism against Ukrainians? I don't understand what the admins of this site are currently occupied with, but just because a Ukrainian team is considered to be involved in illegal things, doesn't mean such majority of HLTV-users have to attack Ukraine like that.

The rabbit hole has gone so deep it's not even about cheating allegations anymore... The rabbit hole is so deep, I fear that no matter which answer is final will still split opinions down the middle.

The most interesting thing for me is definitely the fact that it was surely not only akuma who matchfixed with radar hack... Lancing this abscess will result in much more than just banning akuma and their ceo...

If Akuma are found guilty, I don't even know the severity of the punishment but they would also need to punish the TO. At the moment, it's still ongoing... Did they cheat or didn't they? Users shouldn't be chastised for their opinions on the matter.

I am not even talking about akuma, because for me it is clear as daylight that they cheated and fixed, and the only reason they are nit in jail yet - because it would take time to investigate the whole thing. I am more interested in the fact that someone sold the info for the radar hack > whole tournament system of Snow Sweet Snow might be rigged Time will show

Such a liar Sensei. There is information that he and at least 2 team members (j3kie and Sergiz) used the radar hack, and they personally raised not real money on a bet on the game with Virtus Pro. And Shishko has been doing this for many years in Ukraine, he even organizes tournaments on purpose that would be on the rates to play for previously knowing the result. Shame on the Ukrainian cs go scene.

mhh not for me, if they can show similiar skill on LAN, just one match against a Top10 Team then its possible that they had a good week at the RMR. But they even failed to deliver yesterday against Top40 and in the matches against Navi and VP they spent more time watching on a second Screen instead of the Crosshair, its obvious what happened there.

They probably won't, and they'll keep on being a low tier team. That much I'm sure cuz that kind of upset doesn't happen often. I usually go for football comparisons in this kind of cenário. 2 mid-low end teams from the spanish 3rd division eliminated both Real madrid and Atletico Madrid in the spanish cup. They had the game of a lifetime and won't ever ride that high again. This shit happens when top team take a win for granted. Both na'vi and VP were playing like shit, not only against akuma but in general in that RMR. In the end they might be cheating, idk, I'm not defending them. Just saying that this witchhunt already had it's effect and this guys won't have a real chance even if it's proven that they are clean.

zero actual proof to this day. Plus Flusha or elaf never got banned, so many teams and players getting absolutely insane results in the online era while they were utter shit before. So many throws in T2/3 scenes on a daily basis... They might be guilty but the only reason people are going this hard to akuma in particular is because they humiliated simple.

Yeah, you play with CR4ZY lose from 13-4 today against a tier 3 team, you disband (second time), make a new team and beat NAVI 32-12. Xd That's why csgo isn't dying yet, there are people with 10iq believing in it as it's a "clean" game.

What did people expect anyway? For them to accept the accusations? There might be a chance they didn't cheat (which is like 0.0001%) but I still want there to be a definite proof. You don't win against NaVi 32-12. Something must be up.

"the commission is not currently planning on launching a full investigation into the matter, as it does not have the jurisdiction to do so given that the tournament organizers responsible for the matches in question are not partnered with ESIC." They can't investigate CIS, they can't investigate China, they can't investigate NA, my question is what can they investigate apart tier 5 AU teams?
