Renegades withdraw from ESL Pro League S14

Travel restrictions in Australia have caused the team to drop out of the tournament.

Renegades have withdrawn from ESL Pro League Season 14, citing pandemic-related restrictions that are in place in Australia and that have prevented the team from traveling to Europe and take part in the online competition.

The organizers have invited FORZE to replace the Australian side as the next team in line based on the ESL World Ranking, in which the Russian side currently sit in 20th place. Andrey "⁠Jerry⁠" Mekhryakov and company will take Renegades' place in Group B, which will run from August 21-26.

Renegades were forced to skip the event due to travel restrictions

"Unfortunately, due to the global pandemic right now, we will be unable to attend ESL Pro League," Joshua "⁠INS⁠" Potter said in a video released by Renegades on Twitter. "For now we'll compete in ESEA Premier next season and prepare for the RMR, and hopefully qualify for the Major and be able to attend at the end of the year."

Renegades' withdrawal from the tournament will be a tough pill to swallow after the team finished the last season with a surprise qualification for the main event at IEM Cologne, beating OG on the way. The Australians were looking to build on that result following the end of the summer break, but recent restrictions imposed by the country's government have made it difficult to leave and return.

With FORZE replacing Renegades, Group B at ESL Pro League now boasts the following six teams:

Doesn’t have enough national recognition, it’s not like renegades is representing aus which is typically why sports have been allowed to leave over the past year with some exceptions. But it gets murky cause there’s parts of aus in local lockdowns rn (mainly Sydney affected) which aren’t really escapable, which is why they aren’t able to go for sure considering they got to Europe fine for whatever event it was a few months back
