IEM Fall to host final round of RMR events

ESL will organize the last Regional Major Ranking (RMR) tournaments in all six regions, with the European event set to be held on LAN.

ESL has announced that it will host the final round of RMR tournaments, which will serve as the last chance for teams to gain points in the ranking that will determine the participants of PGL Major Stockholm.

All six events will be held under the IEM Fall banner and take place online in every region but one: North America (12 teams), South America (4 teams), CIS (12 teams), Asia (4 teams), and Oceania (4 teams). The European tournament is the only one that will be played on LAN at an undisclosed location, featuring 24 teams.

The qualifying process for IEM Fall will kick off at the end of August and run until September 12, followed by closed qualifiers on September 12-16. The main event, held on September 29-October 10, will have a total of $255,000 and up to 2,500 points in the Regional Major Ranking in each region on offer.

The news means that most regions will have had only two RMR events to gain points from in total in 2021, with the exception of CIS and South America, which puts pressure on some of the teams who were unsuccessful in the first set of tournaments to perform at IEM Fall.

In Europe, OG, fnatic, and FaZe are among the most notable teams who currently find themselves outside of the 11 qualifying spots to the Major allocated to the region. In other regions, the likes of Virtus.pro and Extra Salt will also need a good result in the final RMR competition to advance to the Stockholm event, taking place on October 23-November 7.

As a result of IEM Fall changing status to a Regional Major Ranking tournament, Renewal will no longer have a spot secured at the event following their win in DreamHack Open June Asia. Instead, the tournament will follow qualification guidelines set by Valve, with half of the participating teams determined via the current RMR standings and the remainder coming from qualifiers.

You can find a basic schedule for each tournament below:

Europe

I just personally miss old times when there was no any RMR bullshit, only qualifiers for majors. These RMR events over year has booring af because if you eliminate from event that doesnt meen anything u still can manage to get in major.

Isn't that a good thing though? "because if you eliminate from event that doesnt meen anything u still can manage to get in major." Teams have multiple chances to prove they're worthy of playing in the major, which means there's a higher chance better teams qualify, while just having 1 qualifier can have alot of upset teams just getting in and shitting the bed, robbing a better team of the spot.

So no LANs for every region and not even 3 RMRs for everyone of them? Disappointed But the biggest good news out of this is that Major is gonna happen as scheduled, since events cut and last ones announced. Something to cheer about at least and worth cutting RMRs for. Some EU teams are fucked though, they ain't making it Let's see how it goes, would have loved a CIS LAN RMR

yeah, but if there were second RMR, they would need much more points to qualify. now if team missed first RMR, they can still qualify even if they end 12th. but if there was 2nd RMR and team would miss both of them, they would have no chance to qualify.

Imagine making a LAN Major with online qualifiers.... I bet trash ESL won’t make “small” LAN events ever since they make much more money with online events The USA is living life almost normally with full stadiums at NFL and NBA preseason games And you can’t host a online LAN without audience??????

I am fully tilted, like hello? Surely they can’t just do this to Renewal. After all the hard work since establishment of Mongolian power house, under banner of August in late 2019. They went through a lot of roster changes/orgs and had a lot of problems within them and this is far as they got, finally qualifying for European tournament and ESL does this. This is actually next level racism and bullying, surely they won’t do this to top tier 1 teams, because they will be scared of big orgs and judgement from fans of big teams. Just because Renewal is from tier 2 region where they are not really recognised for the rest of the world that doesn’t mean they can just throw Renewal off the tournament like that. I will be really disappointed unless they add RMR point to them(invite to the main event will not help since they are far behind in rmr points). There has to some kind of compensation for this or this is just corrupt tournament organisers. Who are they like level 10 Mafia, where they can just decide and force others for what they want. This is not really going to impact big teams but it means a lot to team like Renewal
