FURIA beat NIP to leave open race for final spot in EPL playoffs

The result means that both FURIA and Ninjas in Pyjamas are in contention for the last spot in playoffs heading into the final day of matches.

FURIA have secured their second win in Group D of ESL Pro League Season 14, claiming a shocking three-map series victory over one of the group favourites, Ninjas in Pyjamas. Despite the team's head coach Nicholas "guerri" Nogueira filling in on short notice at the start of the event, FURIA looked the better side for much of the series, coming back from a deficit on Nuke to take the map before conceding a large lead on Ancient, only to steamroll through the Mirage decider to secure the win.

The Brazilian team's victory means that Entropiq are entirely out of playoffs contention, and with Gambit and Liquid guaranteed to advance, throws the final playoff spot into the air heading into the final day of the group. A FURIA win over Liquid would guarantee that Andrei "arT" Piovezan's side would advance regardless of any other result, while Ninjas in Pyjamas still have two ways to qualify — either by beating Gambit outright while FURIA lose to Liquid, or winning out in a three-way tiebreaker scenario which would require that Entropiq win their match against TeamOne and both FURIA and Ninjas in Pyjamas lose their respective matches.

guerri proved to be a more than adequate stand-in for FURIA

Three quick USP-S headshots from Hampus "hampus" Poser allowed Ninjas in Pyjamas to kick things off on Nuke, sustaining against FURIA's force-buy to take a 3-0 lead. The Brazilians created openings into bombsites to tie the score, but Ninjas in Pyjamas looked the better side for much of the half, with Fredrik "REZ" Sterner leading the way to take a three-round lead by the break.

FURIA's hopes to tie the score off the back of a pistol win were immediately shut down by the Deagles of Ninjas in Pyjamas, who began to run away with the map as three additional round wins put them ahead 13-7. A resurgence from FURIA put a halt to the Swedish side's momentum, and a stalwart defense helmed by Yuri "yuurih" Santos and Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato turned the tides as FURIA won nine rounds in a row to complete a comeback, narrowly securing the map win.

Ancient unfolded in an entirely different fashion as FURIA were the ones in firm control from the onset. Rounds for Ninjas in Pyjamas were few and far between as FURIA repeatedly locked hampus' troops out of bombsites, a defensive effort in which KSCERATO's rifling and guerri's AWP were key in posting a dominant 11-4 lead at halftime.

Despite KSCERATO continuing to post multi-kills and FURIA getting into advantageous situations, an Ninjas in Pyjamas comeback got underway in the second half. The Swedes won eight rounds in a row to steal the lead from arT's troops, and although FURIA finally stopped the streak with three of their own, they were unable to close out the map they'd taken a dominant lead on and instead it was Ninjas in Pyjamas who forced a decider, edging out a victory in thirty rounds.

It was another strong start from FURIA on Mirage as they won five rounds in a row for an early lead. A B execute allowed Ninjas in Pyjamas the chance to put their first on the board, and subsequent attacks on the same site helped them narrow the gap; however, FURIA were quick to find their footing and find a solution, running away with the latter portion of the half by securing another 11-4 lead. This time, guerri and company offered Ninjas in Pyjamas little opportunity to get back into the map, converting a pistol win into subsequent victories before closing out the map, 16-8.

he's creating a lot of room for his players which is probably what furia needs instead of trying to find another fragger. I hope they realize this after this event. So happy for Guerri and the praise he's getting, I gained a lot of respect for him after the coach cheating scandal. i.imgur.com/NgC1bAC.png

Exactly, bro, balance matters, similar to happened with liquid whitout a AWP, Twisttz is awesome fragger, but Elige, NAF e Grim when stepup too, Liquid managed to maintain a level even with a star like twistzz out of his roster.

If both Liquid and Gambit win, it depends on whether Entropiq beat TeamOne. If they do, then NIP qualify by winning the H2H maps won tiebreaker between FURIA, NIP, and Entropiq. If TeamOne win, FURIA qualify as they win the H2H with NIP.

Head to head would still go to Gambit. Gambit is guaranteed 1st in group Edit: NVM misunderstood, but map differential in tomorrow's matches won't affect the outcome. Only depends on who wins/loses each match

If Entropiq win, nip is classified, but if Entropiq lost, clasify furia.

In this scenario, a win from t1 will take furia to playoffs, but, if t1 loose nip will pass.

It all comes down to whether Team One can beat Entropiq or not

The score on these two matchs doesn't metter. If both Liquid and Gambit wins, there are two situations. If Entropiq wins: NIP avances. If Team One wins: Fúria advances.

Why is everyone hating on device? People just like to shit on pro players or what? He just wanted to play somewhere else to be closer to where he lives and he was probably tired of some things happening behind the scenes that we have no knowledge of. If you want to blame someone it's the org and the medias for overhyping this move while in fact it's just the most decorated player joining an awful lineup. Awful because they have been struggling since breaking up the original lineup. They don't have proper roles they overlap in many things. The only working NiP was when they had maikelele but they booted him. With allu it was OK but they never really stood out. Plopski & REZ are too inconsistent, the only rock solid player they had was f0rest, since then it's just a shitshow. hampus is the only one I would put my money on but I would have loved if he joined when they had REZ, Lekr0 & f0rest. Then you just needed nawwk or device and it would have been perfect. There was even a timeframe where they could have got olof... And if you think I'm just hating, just go watch the NiP ranking charts, it's a rollercoaster.

cryvice still deserve hate he gets. Sure the ORG here has a big impact on what people expect from them, but device is the superstar. You can demand more from him to lose vs a coach and have a 0.88 rating in the end. It is pathetic nothing else. The cr7 comparing doesn't help as well. That is the difference, when S1mple plays bad it is his own fault. Because he plays independently from what their team m8 perform. Cryvice never GOAT never cr7 just a tom cruise with a career on the downhill.

I'm not saying we should not expect better from him because he said he wanted to be the best player in the world and he has always been a top5 player. But as I said, you're doing just that, why the hate?
