Losing the Major spot to Evil Geniuses was the final nail in the coffin for the Oceanic roster.

EXTREMUM has announced the benching of their entire lineup on Sunday, noting that the team's failure to qualify for the PGL Stockholm Major was the primary factor leading to what they described as a difficult decision.

"It's been a tough week for EXTREMUM, losing to Evil Geniuses was obviously one of the worst-case scenarios, since the main goal of our organization and our team was to qualify for the Major," the organization explained in a short statement. EXTREMUM added that the team's "further fate is unknown" and that they are open to inquiries about their players.

"The Boys" will no longer be representing EXTREMUM

The current EXTREMUM lineup was unveiled in January of 2021, reuniting five out of six members of the former 100 Thieves squad after months of rumors and speculation. With one of Asia's best in Hansel "⁠BnTeT⁠" Ferdinand plugging the hole left by Justin "⁠jks⁠" Savage, the team was promising on paper, but never really got going.

After months of mediocre results against the European subtop early on, EXTREMUM earned a third-place finish at the first North American Regional Major Ranking event, cs_summit 8, putting them on course to qualify for the Major. However, the inability to claim any points at IEM Fall and losing to direct competitor Evil Geniuses in the fifth place decider saw the Oceanic squad miss out on a trip to the most coveted tournament in CS:GO.

The squad was ranked no. 46 in the world when EXTREMUM decided to pull the plug on the project, with their final outing being the IEM Winter Open Qualifier 2, where they were eliminated before the round of 16 by PARTIZAN.

The exact direction EXTREMUM plan to head after benching their current squad remains to be seen. Similarly, it has not yet been decided whether coach Aleksandar "⁠kassad⁠" Trifunović will remain with the organization or look for a new home together with the five players.

Prior to the benching, EXTREMUM featured the following lineup:

He meant every org that's willing to get a CS:GO team should sign one, Bad News Bears is probably one of the biggest orgless teams at the moment. Also, there are many orgs who could get a CS:GO team (especially NA-based) but either prefer to work with Riot in VALORANT or want to focus on only one game.

so? let them go to valorant. it's not like any single one of those players is good enough to win an invitiational tourney anymore (except *maybe* BnTeT), let alone get anywhere close to sniffing an actual major. I'd rather orgs sign actually good players, that way other orgs will want to field a cs roster (because they are successful and making money), if there are 100 orgs fielding teams and only 20 are actually making money, it's going to disincentivize other orgs to switch to cs.

We mean Bntet or jkeam ? They were the only consistent players in extremum. It is hard to win when your awper is almost bottom fragging on every game. I think both are at least t1,5. They can play support or ancor. I dont think bntet is a star player.

The lack of consistent games is more a fact on lack of consistency, do they utilise grat the best, maybe not, as smooya said when he filled in for them he has to learn alot of thing grat does and it wasn't easy. Does grat use his head and does the right thing most of the time probably not. They can be back to decent but with anyone or game, to help them it'll be hard.

Exactly. jks and jkaem had to hard carry because Grat and Liazz got found out once they left for the international scene. Plus those matches are years in the past. He's done nothing against T3 EU teams and NA recently, while Renegades as a whole have at least been competitive against T1 EU in the matches they have had the chance to play. Why break that up?

jks was their star, but betnet and jkaem both are pretty good. other two are too inconsistent. hope they don't twitch to val. scene is oversaturated. but online vs lan makes a big difference. faze were getting destroyed online, eg has been another victim, and several others.

Yea but those teams qualified for the major. That makes up for it. I’m pretty confident that if EG missed the major they’d probably have benched 3 or more players. EXTREMUM was playing basically no matches and then they get to the RMR and shit the bed against A very mediocre EG team. There was no financial reason for EXTREMUM to keep them. None of them are big names, they didn’t play any tournaments, and when they did play them they sucked usually. And it’s not really comparable to EG and Faze because they were at least losing in T1 tournaments. Extremum was getting shit on it Snow Sweet Snows lol. Azr will probably be able to find a team if he doesn’t retire. Same for Jkaem. BnTeT deserves a good T2 or low T1 offer. Liazz and Grat can probably go play in Australia. This likely isn’t the end of any of their careers (unless they want it to be) but this roster as it was constructed simply was not getting the job done and didn’t show enough potential to be picked up by another org. I hope Azr, jks, and Jkaem come together and find two more.

There is definitely potential in the roster, you're right they had very little practice or playing officials prior to the RMR. They claimed to have put a lot of work in. I think they will all find stuff, it's just a weird situation to make judgements with no LANs. Like look how good complexity was on LAN, they dominated but only had a chance to play two of them. Covid hit, obo left and it all fell apart. EG has potential to be a top 10 team, I just think there is no hype man now which was tarik. Brehze, obo, and michu are a great core to build around. Cerq needs to find consistency.

I don't know, they really semt to lack the last piece of the puzzle, the firepower looked decent, overall there were some kind of structure, but it lacked like the last part to succeed. I understand the decision of EXTREMUM, but honestly I would love them to just bench the Oceanic trio and try to build the team around jkaem and BnTeT. jkaem has been playing like an absolute god, I believe he could still perform in Tier 1. BnTeT also has been doing great. AZR was really inconsistent, Grat was pretty bad I agree, and Liazz is trash, he also was trash in 100T where he had other roles and he was trash here aswell. Overall, understandable decision, GL to all players.

NKT is orgless so I don't think he'll interested joining them unless there's proper org that signed the 4 cores then adding BnTeT to the mix. If that happen, ImpressioN probably would get the cut, he's been unreliable especially with his internet when he stuck in Brunei.
