Official: es3tag joins NIP

Patrick "es3tag" Hansen has found a new home just a few weeks after Complexity disbanded, reuniting with Nicolai "device" Reedtz under the Ninjas in Pyjamas banner.

Ninjas in Pyjamas have officially announced the signing of es3tag, confirming Tuesday's report of the move by Dexerto. The Dane joins the Swedish-majority squad on a transfer from Complexity and is replacing Linus "LNZ" Holtäng on the roster, while the 19-year-old youngster returns to Young Ninjas.

The new member has already joined up with the rest of the Ninjas in Pyjamas squad in preparation for the BLAST Premier Fall Final taking place in Copenhagen, which kicks off on November 24 with the opening round of the upper bracket, with Ninjas in Pyjamas will facing off against the new Astralis at 21:00 .

"I'm absolutely thrilled to be back at the absolute forefront of competitive CS:GO — to play with world-class proven individuals, with whom I can create a legacy," es3tag said in a statement. "With backing from an organization like NIP I'm confident that everything surrounding the squad is primed so we can reach the pinnacle of CS:GO. And yes I speak Swedish."

es3tag sets out on a new adventure again after misfortunes in Cloud9 and Complexity

es3tag reunites with device in the Swedish organization after the duo played alongside one another in Astralis in the latter half of 2020 and most notably won ESL Pro League Season 12 Europe together, with the 25-year-old thriving in roles taken after Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth.

After struggling to replicate that level consistently on the two latest international projects he was a part of in Cloud9 and Complexity, es3tag will now take on a similar role in Ninjas in Pyjamas to the one he had in Astralis as he is set to fill LNZ's shoes, a position that the organization and coach Björn "THREAT" Pers expect to be a great match for the Dane.

"Patrick is a fantastic fit for the roster in its current iteration," the head coach has stated. "He's great at making the right read and taking initiative to exploit it — making one of our biggest strengths even bigger. On top of that, he brings that stability and versatility that's going to be key to taking us to the next level."

The move will see the Dane have to adapt to a Swedish-speaking roster. While that seems to be an ongoing process, es3tag and the rest of the team are putting in their best efforts to make it as smooth a transition as possible, NIP COO Jonas Gundersen has told HLTV.org:

"Jätte bra! [Editor's note: Very good!] Norwegian, Danish & Swedish is fairly similar, so he's catching on quick. We're giving him a Swedish tutor, and the guys help out a lot as well," Gundersen said when asked about how good es3tag's Swedish is. "It's always a bit weird in the beginning with the Frankenstein Scandinavian language we're rocking right now, but I am sure it's not going to be a problem at all."

The Ninjas in Pyjamas chief also commented on the organization's continued shift away from an all-Swedish roster with the addition of a second player from Denmark, saying that it has been a natural step to venture into a broader Scandinavian pool of players.

"NIP is a Swedish organisation and will always be. That's where we will bring the trophies home to, and that's the heritage and region we represent. Esports is evolving so fast, and I don't think it's realistic that we limit ourselves to being pure Swedish, if we are to stay competitive at all times, so bridging into a Scandinavian player pool is a natural move for us," Gundersen explained.

"Patrick is an incredible player, and a rare breed of team mate. He's smart, offers great solutions, has a very high skill ceiling and fits the role we need perfectly, so not going for him would have been a mistake in my eyes."

Ninjas in Pyjamas's main lineup now is:

Sweden Fredrik "REZ" Sterner
Sweden Nicolas "Plopski" Gonzalez Zamora
Sweden Hampus "hampus" Poser
Denmark Nicolai "device" Reedtz
Denmark Patrick "es3tag" Hansen

Sweden Björn "THREAT" Pers (coach)

With LNZ returning to the academy team, following in the footsteps of Erik "ztr" Gustafsson who had also had a stint in the main team earlier this year before he was put back into the junior roster, Young Ninjas' roster will be the following from now on:

Sweden Erik "ztr" Gustafsson
Sweden Anton "Sapec" Palmgren
Sweden Love "phzy" Smidebrant
Sweden Kalle "Ro1f" Johansson
Sweden Linus "LNZ" Holtäng
Sweden Oliver "debo" Hallel

Sweden Fredrik "slap" Junbrant (coach)

Yeah I feel that way up untill the major. LNZ has gotto get some more experience and current NIP cant wait for that although it might be worth the wait. role for role wise its better although es3tag is a versatile player. so he could of also replaced plopski. Plopski perhaps when things settle down within the team and they find their stability. He could come out with that thing they saw in him before. the Sex drive is on fire babeh!!! He didnt do bad in the major tbh I expected him to do worse. LNZ had some Godlike important moments against CHFlames that was nuts. At any rate bringing this guy in es3tag is a great move!!

Fair enough LNZ wasn’t consistent every game but he’s been pretty fkn amazing for nip considering his age, es3tag was shit with complex, no denying that fact

Owyeah LNZ was great imo. its a tough call but has to be made to replace him considering going for stage trophies. plopski has been given another chance for a given period. considering es3tag I think its only fair to look at him at Astralis & c9. For complexity yes its a fact but there so much going against him considering the rooster changes and blameF fatigue factor it cant be looked at on a individual level in a teambased game. under such circumstances, it makes no sense to say anything about his time in complexity. On c9 however that could be looked at but I havent followed that c9 project much. . the project flopped is all I know. Can look at es3tag individual gameplay, decision-making skills, roll versatility, aim. Its all really good. going into NIP its a matter of time. getting used to the team and the comms. I think he'll do great.

Did aleksib just join NiP? Because he is the most overrated by a margin of 9000 compared to anybody else. Aleksib couldn't compete even in tier3 games, let alone tier1. Every round starts as 4vs5 with aleksib.

To be honest, i wish good luck to es3tag. As i said in another related thread, he has been caught in the midst of unlucko situations (warming bench in Astralis, joining Complexity when the team was already going downhill). Now he can prove himself with an actual solid team.

For having Swedish as a regular class in school aswell as Swedish being a national language, they speak it like shit, or not at all. The people you are talking about is like 5% of the population. I know this, you arent telling me anything.

Swedish, Norwegian and Danish are all same language family, so for that reason they can understand each other pretty well, some words are same in every one of those languages or atleast pretty simular. Finnish people are learning swedish in school because of colonialism, finland used to be part of sweden kingdom back in the days. The problem is that only feminists and lesbians have motivation to actually learn it, not a single alpha male really puts an effort on learning swedish in finland. Finnish and estonian are also from same language family, so finnish people can understand estonian without a problem

I know all of this so I only respond to one thing. The thing you said about lesbians and feminists is a pretty typical respons from a Finn. Very important for you (your countrymen, not you specifically) to seem manly in the eyes of people who do not care.. And if feminists and lesbians are the only ones smart enough to realise the benefit and opportunities with getting a free language education (especially one whos country is connected to your own) then they are the smart ones in Finland.

It is not smart to educate swedish language :D We can communicate with our swedish brothers with english, language which both parties share. I'd much rather put the resources to some actually important language, which people need in their life. Mandarin chinese, Russia, Spanish etc.

I dont know what this spanish dude is about... but I agree with you, there is very little reason for Finns to learn Swedish unless you are working/living here :)

Yes I didn't meant to be offensive to you, our swedish fellows, brothers. But the fact is like you said there isn't any reason anymore for finns to study swedish language since we're both high educated countries and can use global language english if we have to do business eachother

Swedish Norwegian and Danish are similar languages, so A danish person only needs a couple of months to adapt to swedish. So for es3tag being in sweden and with his swedish teammates he will adapt to the differences between danish and swedish, aswell as pick up a lot of swedish naturally because the languages have very similar structure. If es3tag was norwegian, the adaptation process would be faster because swedish and norwegian are more similar than danish/swedish is, in terms of pronounciation. Tldr: Swedish is not hard for danes to pickup after some weeks/months of adaptation.

Why are you giving me a lesson I already know? Ur like the 3rd guy to do it. I missed where I asked for it. I said, whats up with all these Danes knowing Swedish. Wich is simply a surprise reaction because it happens again and again and its not expected. Im not and was not asking for a lesson about the similarities of scandinavian languages. I know it just as well as you. But I know you all love to explain it whether you are asked about it or not.

Astralis won bo5 against Navi in the final (ESL PL 12) with this guy in the line-up causing real mayhem.. and then made some good money and profit selling him. But a 1 for 1 swap does not solve NIP's issues, which are deeply rooted in their playing style and strategic approach.. can't say if it's more related to caoching, igl'ing or both though.

Overall big upgrade for NIP, but I'm not sure how will es3tag fill into LNZ shoes, LNZ really had the worst of the worst roles you could possbily imagine, and es3tag, in coL I don't really know what roles he played, but in C9 he was more of a lurker rather than a support I would say. I wish he can make NIP better, but it won't be easy. GL tho!
