m0NESY to G2 deal finalized - Report

The Russian teenager will take over the vacant role as the team's AWPer.

G2 have signed Russian rising star Ilya "⁠m0NESY⁠" Osipov, according to a report by 1pv.cs. The youngster would be set to leave the NAVI Junior academy team to join the third highest-ranked team in the world at the age of 16 for a sum upwards of $600,000.

The news comes as no surprise as rumors of the transfer started after the PGL Major in Stockholm and Natus Vincere recently announced the transfer-listing of m0NESY along with two of his NAVI Junior teammates, Eugene "⁠Aunkere⁠" Karyat and Rodion "⁠fear⁠" Smyk.

m0NESY is set to join G2 as the team's main AWPer

m0NESY will be filling a much-needed role in G2, as they have been without an AWPer since Kenny "⁠kennyS⁠" Schrub was moved to the bench in March. They made do with François "⁠amanek⁠" Delaunay, who picked up the 'big green' despite not being a dedicated AWPer, but as most top sides triumph thanks to strong AWPers it was only a matter of time for the international squad to add a sniper to the team.

One question remains to be answered, and that's if the 16-year-old will be able to put up numbers at the highest level, something he believes he is ready for. Despite not competing in the elite circuit yet, his academy numbers speak for themselves, as he boasts a 1.31 rating and he placed among the top 3 players at the three WePlay Academy League stages he competed in, crushing all competition in the first one with a 1.64 rating despite his team not making the LAN finals.

G2's roster appears to not be locked yet, however, as there could be more moving parts with the international organization expressing interest in Robin "⁠ropz⁠" Kool, who would be deciding his future between FaZe and G2 after talks with Vitality and Liquid hit dead ends according to Aleksei "⁠OverDrive⁠" Birukov.

1pv.cs also reported earlier that G2 could be interested in in-game leader Aleksi "⁠Aleksib⁠" Virolainen, while solutions for a coach have not yet been found after Damien "⁠maLeK⁠" Marcel was let go from the organization and a deal couldn't be reached with FunPlus Phoenix for Luka "⁠emi⁠" Vuković.

In the case of new signings coming to fruition, it is expected the French duo of amanek and Audric "⁠JACKZ⁠" Jug to be out of the door, with the former being first on the chopping block while Nemanja "⁠nexa⁠" Isaković's ongoing visa issues, which sidelined him at IEM Winter, could also play a part in the team's outlook in the off-season.

finally someone understands this . the difference between t2 and t1 is the top tier meta , trading ability , utility usage and mid round calls . if we talk about individual ability of a player , if monesy can outfrag everyone in t2-t3 and he can do so in fpl , then he can definitely do that in t1 too. He will take some time to adjust to t1 scene and thus he will only improve but i dont think he will be shitting in t1 in any case.

Still depends on how he fits in with an international roster tho. He'd have an easier time adjusting to T1 in a CIS squad, might have a hard time with Niko and whoever G2 has as the IGL. Not saying he won't frag, but this might not work for the team.

And how does b1t having 70% HS matter? What matters in T1 cs is trading, teamplay and the ability to stick to protocols. And also, paying 600k for this kid is way to overpriced. Its basically a gamble, wether Niko can carry G2 with him or not. If so, the AWPer in G2 will look good, if not, Carlos looses 600k lol I don't mind young talent beeing taken in, but m0nesy hasn't proven anything by stomping some 3rd tier academy teams, far from that tbh... And also, Awping in T1 is way harder since there are way better protocols to deal with them, it makes a huge difference...

I will totally agree with the insane amount of money for a 16 year old cs player from tier 3. But to be honest, the financial market doesn't work that way unfortunately. Meaning that companies invest most of the times and do not just buy. We are talking about human potential though, and not an item. So , the more the potential of a player, the lower the risk of getting your money back. In the case of m0nesy, even having NiKo speaking about you like the way he did, that means a lot for a company that is searching for young talents.

Completely different circumstances for each player noone was overhyping or overrating b1t before NAVI main roster, that's why he was coming into the main roster without any pressure on him, which allowed him to show his A game in a very short amout of time. m0nesy is coming in G2 in sort of a "star" player status, the expectations from him will be really high, both from players and managment, they paid $600k for him, they want results immediately and m0nesy understands that very well. Also he will have to speak on different language, which is really hard for a 16 yo kid. With all this things said he will be playing under huge pressure if thigs don't go well.

I`d even add to that. b1t came in to 1)a very structured team with a coach that had a lot of control and respect 2) he was given the space, time and support to learn how to play on t1, even by s1mple and electronic - even while the fans were already saying it was a downgrade. m0nesy will be coming to a team that is in the middle of a complete makeover, that will have a new igl, a new coach and we have no idea it those will work between themselves and, more importantly, with the Kovacs that - honestly - know that the major was really within their grasp with that roster

I'm sorry for replying so late, but as far as I remember b1t was getting quite a bit of hate in his early navi days as he wasn't performing well.He looked shaky, did questionable plays and often wiffed. m0nesy and Aunkere were the 2 stars of the team since the beginning so ye, b1t was basically an average player who got a chance to play in the main roster due to same "noob" roles as flamie. Looking at b1t now, u cant even compare b1t to Aunkere. but in their NaVi JR lineup, Aunkere was usually the second best player who also deserves to play at high lvl as b1t. b1t and m0nesy were the 2 stars of NaVi Junior, m0nesy said it himself in his interview that they were the strongest duo on their tier and b1t was his best partner. aunkere was often subpar, but was more cocky about being good, while actually tanking rating more often than not. they might have picked m0nesy if he had been already 16 when they decided to promote B1t to main roster, but i doubt it, as they would then have to gimp his potential by letting him rifle, as he's no match for s1mple on AWP. So i think they would have gone either way with b1t, as he's a main rifler and his rating during their time together on NaVi junior was pretty much the best. b1t and m0nesy didn't play many maps together during their time i think, but in that time b1t had slightly better stats, as a rifler

yea tbh, no matter who else G2 sign, at the end of the year/beginning next, this will be a "completely new team" and they would have to start pretty much from scratch again, from 0, with potentially 2-3 new members in the team (2 players + coach). this is almost setting themselves up for failure with certainty, as there are now much more moving pieces than just 1 and the rest is well oiled. Also, if Ropz decides to go with G2, roles would need to be changed and guys like Nexa would probably have to be moved to support. And tbh i think Amanek support > nexa support, but could be wrong ofc I hope monesy does well, but it might also be that G2 has removed themselves from "title contenders" with that move

I am just wondering how the language barrier will be. Not to mention he hasn’t even played premier or adv on esea and has no experience in it which Those leagues are no joke. Adv has teams like mad lions and skade in it. Not to mention several other teams. I think even Fnatic academy team plays in it but idk why other teams don’t. And then going up to premier teams just get better with most teams being on the verge of t1 and t2 teams.

Niko said his comms are decent enough, if he thought otherwise I don't think monesy would be signed at all, so there's that. As for jumping tiers too fast, I'd say that it's normal because younger generation learns fast and process accelerates in recent years by large margins in comparison to rookies of the past i.e. b1t, cphf young talents, bymas, spinx/flamez, even brollan to a point not all of them succeed longterm but there's no time to go through all the steps for monesy and he'll have good players around to learn from

Yeah we will see how it goes. I feel bad for players who are grinding these leagues but don’t get a chance or opportunity by some of these top teams but a 16 year old with not a lot of experience will because he has the Navi brand in his name. Idk it’s just my opinion. In NA, you got to grind through these leagues to make premier to get noticed by teams. I assume in European it’s the same way unless you play for an academy team. But the academy teams just play other academy teams.

Yeah the ping problem Is an issue. NA got cucked pretty hard by Covid. People think Valorant killed NA CS but Covid hurt it way more. Covid took away all LANs and events in NA bringing no international competition like it used to be prior. Now everyone has to goto europe to play because cs is europe based due to Covid and europe best place to have tournaments rn because of ping. Everyone in europe can get similar ping to a server no matter where they are. NA is massive. As someone living in northern Canada. I get 80 ping to some of the servers. If you live west coast playing on a Chicago server (east). You will get 70 ping and people from europe will get like 90-100 yet they are across the ocean. Sorry I didn’t mean to make it that long lol.

Premier in EU is definitely t1-t2 experience. Most teams are on the verge of being t1 or are t2. Adv in Europe has t2 teams but is mostly t2-t3. It is experience, the leagues aren’t a joke considering a lot of money is involved. Not to mention a shit ton of people are playing to advance into the next league and eventually into pro league.

I understand where you are coming from, tho I have another perspective. If he signed with t2 team, and actually played good, that t2 team wouldn’t want to let him go. At least it would have become troublesome. So what they did in this case, they took the risk with high reward if it works out. (I’m also coming from a fact that s1mple said on HLTV Confirmed that NaVi are very willing to help their Junior player sign, which is why I said that another team owning him could become troublesome for t1 teams wanting to sign him) Also, it’s not like m0NESY is that inexperienced. It’s common sense that FPL is different from official games, but him playing good in FPL proves he at least has the capabilities to out-play t1 players. If G2 guide him well, I believe he can become a good asset for them

G2 have been wanting to win now since they signed Niko but it hasnt worked so what do you want them to do just keep going with the same formula that hasnt worked. Don't have any issues with Nexa, think he's doing a good job for an IGL. It's not like aleksib have been doing anything remarkable since ENCE. If they replace him, the core is gone and they pretty much have to build everything from scratch. I believe more in integrating the two new players in the current system they have, but with some more firepower in m0nesy and ropz instead of jackz and amanek.

I just don't like the Aleksib to g2 thread cuz he's not really performing incredibly rn, and i'm not sure he's the fix g2 need + it doesn't look like OG want to sell him. And your t1 argument doesn't make sense since m0nesy hasn't played t1 either, where as Shipz has. He might not be on the t1 scene anymore but he's crushing it on t2, the only thing holding him back is his team. I'd rather they don't change the IGL position, keep nexa and instead get a entry fragger (Jkaem is available) and get a good staff with kassad and letn1 (buy them out from EXTREMUM). But nexa looks deadset on not IGLing anymore, so gotta look for alternatives, and maybe SHiPZ is not a good option, but imo Aleksib isn't either.

Ig we'll have to see how Aleksib performs on G2, but I'm not sure it's going to be better than what they are rn. Imo they don't really need a pure IGL since nexa and NiKo can also call mid-round, they need someone with firepower to guide them at the start of the round and an entry. In my opinion: - guide them to site: Aleksib > SHiPZ - firepower: SHiPZ > Aleksib - entry: SHiPZ > Aleksib So I think SHiPZ is a better fit than Aleksib on G2.

I also think that NiKo can try IGLing again. He's doing it rn with G2 at IEM Winter and they look promising to win the whole thing. Then they can just get an entry if they are not satisfied with Jackz. Someone like Jkaem is on the market rn, plus they can make it a package deal and bring in kassad and LETN1 with him (LETN1 has worked with hunter and nexa in the past). Zywoo is not for sale, he had his deal renewed not long ago and his picture was then projected in the Arc de Triomphe, the Panthéon, Montmartre.. only way to get Zywoo would be to give persuade him with millions of dollars and pay Vita more money than NiKo, device, es3tag, m0nesy and the whole squad of CPHF prices combined (I am exaggerating because that's the only way how you could tempt Vita org to let go of their best asset ever by far). m0nesy is by all accounts and by talent evaluation & projection a superstar in the making, a mini-s1mple. He can obviously be a bust, but it's more likely than not that at the very least he will be a better AWPer and player than Amenek. No risk it, no biscuit. G2 are pushing all their chips in to close the gap with Navi. I can't hate them for doing that and attempting to maximize the return on NiKo's performances and prime.

Then I really like it. But I honestly think that: 1. That's too much money even for G2 (NiKo, m0nesy, alexib and ropz) 2. We need to see nexa without IGL duties, he may be exactly what G2 need. I personally also think that having too many "superstar" players is not the best thing to do. Nexa can do dirty work and won't feel bad if his stats are not great. If ropz stats are bad because of all the firepower G2 will have, everybody will criticize the signing without context.

Aleksib is lacking of excuses for the bad performance of his team. Look the world of differences between Faze and OG. Sure they have better fraggers in Faze, but they have Olof, Karrigan and sometimes rain are not fragging much. OG get easily flank, often read. For me, he is not top3 igl.

Here you have/would have players that are all ( but m0nesy ) proven top players ( with three top 20 candidates and two top 6-7 ones ropz and NiKo ), the hottest prospect of 2021 and either a very good IGL or one of the best fragging IGL ...
