Grim, Stewie2K and FalleN removed from Liquid's starting line up

The announcement has been expected for some time, with players openly foreshadowing the news in recent interviews.

Michael "⁠Grim⁠" Wince, Jake "⁠Stewie2K⁠" Yip, and Gabriel "⁠FalleN⁠" Toledo will not be on Liquid's starting line up in 2022, it was confirmed today via a video posted to the Team Liquid Twitter account. In the video, Liquid's Counter-Strike General Manager Steve "⁠jokasteve⁠" Perino stated that more information regarding the roster would be provided in the coming weeks.

The news comes as no surprise as it has been an open secret for some time now that the Liquid roster would be breaking up at the end of the year, with the three aforementioned players seeking pastures new.

Stewie2K is set to end a nearly three-year stint with Liquid

The only question mark regarding the current roster was whether Keith "⁠NAF⁠" Markovic would be staying with the organisation, which was answered when the player extended his contract in late November.

It was an underwhelming year for Liquid, the only real results of note being a top-four at IEM Katowice way back in February and a victory at cs_summit 8 in May. Their middling form throughout 2021 saw them dip as low as #16 in the HLTV world rankings, a long fall from grace for a core that won the Intel Grand Slam and spent time as world #1 in 2019.

Liquid close in on oSee - Report

It is not yet clear who will make up the rest of the Liquid roster moving into 2022, although names such as Richard "⁠shox⁠" Papillon, Josh "⁠oSee⁠" Ohm and Nick "⁠nitr0⁠" Cannella have been linked to moves to the NA squad in recent times. If those signings were to take place, Liquid's roster for next year could be:

It really doesn't make sense, for tons of reasons. The only angle I can see is money. Other than that, it's gonna throw his entire life into disarray - having to move to another country/continent, already having a wife and a kid, adjusting with American culture, etc. Shox has historically been a very touchy personality, for whom vibing with the team is quite important, and so it'd really mess up his life. And at his age, priorities are different, compared to an 18 yo excited kid.

Yeah, for the past 10 months. But with nitr0 coming back, I'm almost certain that they will be based in NA, and just play the events by coming to Europe when required, just like CIS players. With his wife and 1yo child, I don't think nitr0 will be moving in to Netherlands. But even if it happened, roles are fcked in Liquid with both shox and NAF. Really a bad move imo.

The only reason why liquid goto europe for a month at a time is because of Covid with almost every event this year being online. When LANs return full time, the travel should reduce. Not like Liquid can play in these events in NA like RMR and shox play with 160 ping. I remember shox was playing from home instead of boot camp with the team at one point.

I don’t think he will join Liquid, it doesn’t make sense, Liquid can’t be that dumb to go for another risk after the risky project with FalleN fall flat. It was just a one rumor, it doesn’t have to mean anything. Personally, I think shoxie will stay in Vitality (crying apEX talked only about Remy, so about the coach), so I think there is a possibility the team will stay together after the insane end of the year, and malek will become the coach. Or he will be in the new EnvyUs with Kenny and NBK, possibly taking Kyojin and AmaNEk with them…

Everyone knows Elige is a egocentric player. Hiko, Simple said so and the problem with Twistzz was he wasnt really given the freedom to play in his own style. this! i honestly wasn't surprised he is leaving and also i don't feel that bad, some could argue going from a tier 1 team to a tier 2-1.5 roster isn't the best idea, but at least gives hope for him to go back to playing the role he shines in, instead of just been a filler; to me in liquid all he was doing was wasting his potential and chances to grow even further (not saying he didn't learn anything on liquid, but in other teams i allways felt like he could have exponentially grow)

I actually think it wasn't bad for Grim to be playing those roles in TL, the experience he received was invaluable. The issue, for mine, is that the team didn't support him in the transition. Not give him toxicity about it. Also hopefully Stew could show more leadership and be the adaptable experienced leader that mentors these kids and perhaps sacrifices their game a little to do so, without complaint. They're both still young though, so they have time, hopefully. Part of the reason I like NAF is that despite being the most consistent big game player on Liquid, he plays some of the bitch roles for the team. Even Elige shifted positions, although it seemed to be to accomodate Stew mostly, Fallen sometimes and to help Grim on maps like Inferno.

I'll always be thankful for what Stewie brought to the team but there was a decent level of toxicity there at the end. Fallen hinted how much it hurt him personally to have to deal with it. Everyone who says Nitro was bad before quitting is retarded. He had a massive drop in form during online Era due to playing in Louisiana (just like twistzz drop in form while playing far away in Canada). Nitro was fine when lans were still here and he'll be a more than serviceable IGL for liquid. He will have his days of popping off but mostly be a 1.00 player in IGL role. I don't see that as any kind of an issue.

Am I the only one who think shox move is good ? Man, I do think shox is still got it. He have the experiences, he still know how to clutch, he gonna have a lot of positive inputs into liquid's system. He can do all the support stuff with nitr0 when the 3 star do all the fragging.
