The Brazilian AWPer joins the roster after displaying dominant form with paiN in 2021.

FURIA have announced the addition of Rafael "⁠saffee⁠" Costa, with the 27-year-old arriving as a replacement for Vinicius "⁠VINI⁠" Figueiredo after he was confirmed to be out of the team's starting roster in November by head coach Nicholas "⁠guerri⁠" Nogueira.

saffee made waves in North America after moving there with paiN in late 2020, putting up stellar numbers against the best teams in the region as he averaged a 1.27 rating across 2021, helping secure a title win in DreamHack Open January.

saffee has completed a move to FURIA

He also was a pivotal factor in helping paiN qualify for PGL Major Stockholm's Challenger Stage, where the team fell in narrow fashion to Virtus.pro and Renegades, beat Sharks, and lost to Astralis to exit the tournament in 12-14th place.

Who is saffee, paiN's late bloomer?

With FURIA struggling to return to a world-beating level after Henrique "⁠HEN1⁠" Teles' departure one year ago, saffee quickly became a prime candidate to join the team, and fervor only grew after the team benched Paytyn "⁠junior⁠" Johnson in June after struggling to adapt to a language change.

After saffee continued to put up dominant numbers throughout the latter half of the year with paiN, it was reported by Globo and 1pv.fr in December that FURIA had reached an agreement to sign the AWPer, with whom they will look to once again contend for Big Event trophies in 2022.
