German CS 1.6 icon Roman R. becomes Chief of CS:GO at BIG

The veteran has taken over the position that was occupied by Nikola "⁠LEGIJA⁠" Ninić and Fatih "⁠gob b⁠" Dayik in past years.

BIG has appointed Roman "⁠Roman R.⁠" Reinhardt its new Chief of CS:GO, the organization has announced. Previously in charge of BIG's merchandising team, the 38-year-old will now oversee the development of both Counter-Strike divisions together with the organization's Chief Gaming Officer, Christian Lenz.

Roman R. is an icon of German Counter-Strike whose career dates back to the early 2000s. In 1.6, he represented some of the country's most successful teams under mousesports and ALTERNATE, winning several local and international titles, including multiple seasons of ESL Pro Series Germany, as well as CPL Spain in 2005 and Intel Extreme Masters II in 2008. He hung up his mouse in 2012 after leaving ALTERNATE amid the scene's switch to Global Offensive.

Roman R. competed in Counter-Strike 1.6 for over a decade

He has reunited with former mousesports chief and now BIG co-founder Yilmaz Ozan, taking over the position previously undertaken by LEGIJA and gob b in past years in the Berlin-based organization and has been vacant ever since the latter transitioned to VALORANT in 2020.

"Roman Reinhardt has had a significant impact on German Esports during his career as a professional player," BIG's CEO, Daniel Finkler, said. "Due to his exceptional knowledge and his close connection to Yilmaz Ozan, he has been an important part of BIG for many months now."

"In the future, Roman will contribute his vast experience as Head of CS:GO and, together with CGO Christian Lenz, he will be responsible for the development of our CS:GO department, including the talent division."

"I was always in close touch with my friend and mentor Yilmaz Ozan after my playing career ended long ago. As the founder of mousesports, Yilmaz entrusted me with the sporting success of the Counter-Strike team even back then and we have been able to celebrate a long history of successes together," Roman R. added. "Therefore, I am very happy that I can now pursue my passion for esports again following my long career as a professional player."

Romans Real Name was Roman Außendorfer, iirc and in german career Network Xing i found out that he is working in a Bank. I know who you are talking, about he played in a-Losers , then joined alternate ATTAX, then mouz ( later ). I didn't follow late 1.6 though, ( 2010-2012 , NaVi era ). Still played when most of legends had stopped playing the game, like many of the best players of 2007-2008+. Everybody for example is wanking on zonic, but he was an good player but nothing special ( on the world stage ) prior to almost all the stars retiring. Same with dsn and many other, like delpan etc. Cyx I agree was really good. Only real legends from the game that were already there when 1.6 was at its strongest and still there in the end are f0rest, GeT_RiGhT, NEO and a few others ( was zet still playing btw ? ) markeloff was a god too.

I don’t remember Zet being around around the end, except for that one time he was it’s pita and Delpan. A lot of the old guys were insane, and so was dsn. He had always been talented and when he was in fnatic he was still top tier, he has a dip in performance when guys like gux and gtr joined because he became a more supportive player. Roman since I first saw him was always an insane player, and for my money the best from Germany - possibly to this day.

Great to see that while BIG has grown they still operate like when they started, a big family full of familiar faces. Further ciments their place as THE Premier German Org in CS which is ironic when you think Mouz, Penta, alternate and SK have been around for ages yet they're mostly forgotten in the CS space.

Penta had only a rather short stint around the start of CSGO aswell as Alternate as a "company" owned team has been out of sight and proper international play for countless years. mouz & SK are on a whole other level as traditional organisations, even tho SK has been away from CSGO for quite some time now. The history speaks for itself. mouz has been the only one who has been there for almost 20 years now and still around top 10 until recently with sparks of top 3 to top 5 from time to time, so categorize them into the "forgotten" space doesnt fit imo.

agreed on most of the points made. the forgotten part in the mouz was an exageration to state how nowadays (and for the last years) they lost their idendity as a German team to become a european team. This meant that even when they still had the likes of spiidi/denis/etc the priority wasn´t making a good german team but a good european team. As such they didn´t feel german, being more of budget FaZe that just so happens to be based in germany and have germans players. This can be seen as since 2017 when the denis/spiidi left they haven´t had 1 german player, with JDC braking a close to 5 year time period.

The problem was that most if not all top players didnt switch to CSGO back from 1.6 and rather went on with life cuz the time to live off CS was always pretty hard back then. So there was literally nothing of experience or leadership in CSGO in the beginning and it took the comeback of gob b to find and lead some guys out of the shadows like tabsen after years. Regaining a whole new generation took many years compared to the likes of TaZ, neo or f0rest, GeT_RighT transitioning with most of their teams.
