The team list for ESL Challenger League Season 40 North America has been determined ahead of its scheduled start on Tuesday, with the total number of teams in the league increasing from the initial fourteen to a total of sixteen.

As a result of the Extra Salt roster's impending move to Complexity, a Louvre Agreement organization who hold a partner slot in ESL Pro League, a free spot was available in the division. To fill that gap, ESL have elected to invite Damian "⁠daps⁠" Steele's recently-created Orgless lineup.

To increase the total number of competitors in the league, two teams that previously took part in ESEA Premier Season 39 Relegation were also moved up, including X13 and a previously unknown roster that David "⁠Delta9⁠" Shafer would be able to create using DETONATE's spot.

That team was revealed on Monday to be one helmed by stanislaw, who is set to return to active play after he was released from Evil Geniuses in November. The lineup also includes Delta9 as well as two other players who have hovered around the Premier and Advanced level in North America over the years, with a fifth member yet to be determined.

For stanislaw, it will be an opportunity to build himself back up after a lacklustre 2021, a year in which he averaged a 0.87 rating as Evil Geniuses struggled to post any notable results, falling flat in almost all of their international tournament appearances.

You can click on the tournament link for more info. It will be a roundrobin groupstage, all bo3. Losing at playoffs sends you to the lower brackets. Grand final bo5, with 1 map advantage for the one who got through the upper bracket.

Mauisnake raves about minus and I saw minus when he played with Maui. He is good. Like swisher played with Maui then worked hard and excelled. I’m playing with Maui next season then I’ll go pro.

Sheesh. Good luck with that. I saw elige put minus as his bold prediction but I remember he signed for atk from springroll beforehand in a swap deal for cyrix, and people were raving about him. But he kinda got screwed over by atk :/

the esea league is literally the only reason ppl pay for esea, and the league's concept is "path to EPL". having an open qual loses ESL/ESEA lots of money

I honestly think the lower leagues is for practice to get to that level. If you are a mix of players from different Premier teams and can easily destroy all of the league below Premier, just like paiN MIBR YEAH Gaming, all did... these teams should have an alt route into the higher leagues if they are ranked on hltv higher than current prem teams for instance just entering the league.
