The Finn will take over the European squad's in-game leadership with the Frenchman taking the reins as head coach.

G2 have announced the signing of Finnish in-game leader Aleksi "⁠Aleksib⁠" Virolainen from G2, in a swap between both organizations that has Nemanja "⁠nexa⁠" Isaković going the other way.

The incoming 24-year-old rounds out G2's starting lineup ahead of the 2022 season, with the other change being AWPer Ilya "⁠m0NESY⁠" Osipov joining from NAVI Junior earlier in the winter break in lieu of François "⁠amanek⁠" Delaunay, who had been reconverted into a temporary AWPer following the benching of Kenny "⁠kennyS⁠" Schrub.

Aleksib will take the reins leading G2

Aleksib, who led ENCE's Finnish roster during their meteoric rise in 2018 and 2019, will hope to return to the same heights with a firepower-heavy team, as his OG failed to live up to expectations in 2021 with only two deep playoff runs at IEM Summer and ESL Pro League Season 14, making the final and semi-finals, respectively.

The final piece of the puzzle in G2 is Rémy "⁠XTQZZZ⁠" Quoniam as the team remained without a head coach following the sacking of Damien "⁠maLeK⁠" Marcel after the PGL Major, leaving analyst Jan "⁠Swani⁠" Müller taking charge in the interim.

The French skipper joins after successfully taking Vitality's roster to the top echelons of the game since the squad's inception in late 2018, but was removed when the Paris-based organization went international with the signing of Peter "⁠dupreeh⁠" Rasmussen, Emil "⁠Magisk⁠" Reif and Danny "⁠zonic⁠" Sørensen in late 2021.

This move will either prove that Aleksi has been a top 3 IGL all along, or that the ENCE run was just the right place, right time for him. When you look at the whole OG run in hindsight, they really should have achieved more. Yes, they never really had the pieces to make a top 5 roster, but the lack of tournament wins (especially when you look at the finals they lost and who they lost to) is a major failure of the team.

issa is at tier 3 player AT BEST, flamez is good but he's still a massively inexperienced player, and valde couldn't perform at the level he should in most of the big matches OG played. ENCE had significantly better chemistry than OG, sergej was definitely a better player in 2019 than flamez was in 2021, xseven was a massively underrated part of that ENCE roster, and they also had a very experienced T1 player in allu. ENCE 2019 bodies OG 2021, and its not even close

Doesn’t matter. You will still not be able to tell. Nexa did not had a top AWP to open a round and call with 5v4 a lot. Most of their losses are from Simple, Zywoo and Shiro. Great teams with sick AWPers. All the rest they dominated (occasionally flukes against top form Syrson or Cadian). So, Nexa did not really have a chance to lead a team with good AWPer… he did good in Cr4zy and G2. I think he will do good in OG too. For someone who is forced into IGL role he is a top 10 IGL.

my point is that Ence times were so long ago that is not even relevant to discuss, according to your logic Pronax would be the best IGL in the world since he'd won 3 majors. Also even if we take it into consideration, their peak was a major final wich Nexa with G2 surpass Aleksib Ence being in a several elite grand finals such as major, Cologne and Katowice plus reaching top 1, wich is something Aleksib was never close to experience. I'm not saying Aleksib is bad, just Nexa is better.

gg I felt like G2 are going to be the main contender for Navi in 2022 when they signed m0nesy, that linup with him would be really strong with NiKo putting up those crazy numbers that he showed in Major for example, G2 could have very well dethrone Navi, but with this Aleksib move, I dont know whether this is gonna work for them. Aleksib instead of nexa maan, this is hardly an upgrade (only movement-wise maybe), but nexa can be a great IGL fragger, I dont see this potential in aleksib, nexa is also a great clutcher, aleksib hasnt been showing none of these high value abilities. Plus nexa already had great synergy with the team, with aleksib they are gonna have to build everything from scratch.

in term of call, i don't think its that much difference between nexa and aleksib. infact, nexa is more favorable because he has better aim. But its without a doubt aleksib is really good pick considering they have m0nesy right now, they need igl that can develop m0nesy talent into t1 (considering aleksib did amazing job with sergej and mantu aswell).

I'm already excited how G2 will do with such a drastic change with XTQZZZ, m0nesy and Aleksib. Out of all the roster changes this is the most questionmark one like it could be both a disaster (at least at the start) or it could be good, like it's very hard to say. Perhaps we'll see a honeymoon period or we don't, is XTQZZZ even speaking good enough english to take on this job, is Aleksib an Top-3 IGL or overrated bot. Will m0nesy crumble under the big pressure both from all the hype around him as well as the NiKo-factor? I mean questionmarks are huge for this lineup but it's exciting at the same time.

Well I don't know why would they bench nexa, Aleksib doesn't seem like much of an upgrade really, nor downgrade tbh., just 2 decent IGLs for me. But this roster really makes sense, like it's really great, I feel like this is the one that can overtake NAVI, I really think so. They have everything, NiKo and m0NESY give great firepower to for the team, Aleksib is a solid IGL, if m0NESY can play supportive AWPer like AMANEK did then they can have great structure, and now with m0NESY who is pretty aggresive NiKo can take a step back so he can frag even more, I'm really looking forward for this G2.
