Spirit formalize roster with chopper and s1ren

The Russian organization has announced its roster ahead of its 2022 season.

Spirit have officially rounded out their squad for the new year, bringing back Leonid "⁠chopper⁠" Vishnyakov from the bench and signing young rifler Pavel "⁠S1ren⁠" Ogloblin, a product of the Spirit Academy. Additionally, Sergey "⁠hally⁠" Shavaev has been promoted to the role of head coach.

This marks the formal return of chopper into the starting lineup after three months on the transfer list. The Russian IGL had been moved to the bench alongside Nikolay "⁠mir⁠" Bityukov and put for sale in November as part of the team's restructuring.

chopper returns after three months of inactivity

chopper has been a part of the organization for almost three years, leading Spirit to their most recent trophies at Pinnacle Cup II and DreamHack Open January 2021 Europe. Despite being transfer-listed, he would spend a month on the bench before briefly returning in December to help in the qualifiers for ESL Challenger Anaheim, and then again return to inactivity.

Meanwhile, S1ren was an inaugural member of the Spirit Academy roster in 2021, but was moved to the bench in December as part of the team's shakedown. The 19-year old averaged a 1.05 rating across the nine months spent in the academy side, mostly competing in smaller regional tournaments and Malta Vibes Knockout Series events.

The two players will join a team built around the quality brought by Boris "⁠magixx⁠" Vorobiev and Abdul "⁠degster⁠" Gasanov, with Robert "⁠Patsi⁠" Isyanov rounding out a young squad made for the future.

Spirit to rebuild roster: "The project's potential wasn't fully achieved"

"Most top teams tend to bring in younger players, and after taking time to reflect on our CS:GO division and the scene as a whole we decided to do the same. Now we have an experienced captain surrounded by promising players, who we believe have loads of potential. In our opinion, this approach and this roster make the most sense," commented coach hally.

The news puts an end to a period of instability for Spirit, with the Russian squad experiencing a series of changes in the closing stages of 2021 following their disappointing performance at the PGL Major in Stockholm. chopper and mir were benched in November in favor of Aleksandr "⁠KaiR0N-⁠" Anashkin and Patsi, with Viktor "⁠sdy⁠" Orudzhev being transfer-listed shortly afterward.

Spirit will play on Monday against Savage, at Pinnacle Winter Series 2 Regionals.

problem I could see is long-term motivation, getting along with each other WHEN something does go wrong (which is unlikely at this stage but you never know) or just simply casual discussions in english, outside of the game there is little they can do to get to know each other better (team-building) etc

Even if this is the case, my point is the roster is significantly worse then the old one and has no hope of being competitive. You need Magixx and Patsi to both take major leaps and Degster needs to be consistently good. Siren has potential but I think he's more of an investment, he'll take time to develop.

As you're fan of a CIS team i guess you follow CIS scene? Then you should know how much amazing talents there is there to pick up. NaVi did the same shit for years. Most of "CIS talents" are players from tier3 and semipro teams, some never even played on LAN once. Other ones (like deko) cost way too much because they are owned by tier2 orgs. There really isn't an easy way to create new promising team. But I agree that chopper is clearly an odd one out here, Replace him with some youngster and team would look better on paper. The whole "but muh experience" is stupid, because you literally have Espada core here with tons of experience

I love seeing HLTV experts shitting on this roster while being out of the touch with recent rumours regarding mir. He reportedly was stubborn to the point of not listening to teammates so it was better for both sides to split up since dragging it out wouldn't make any sense. Even though I'm not a fan of their roster, I'm looking forward to seeing them play and I'll surely give them a turn before reserving judgement. I think the chemistry is on point, they've been playing faceits together day and night so the grinding mindset must be there.

I think they will go on with chopper until Jerry is available, to test/keep ready the future of the roster (magixx, degster, Patsi, s1ren). And if any of the newcomers doesn't fit to T1 level, then maybe go for lollipop21k, X5G7V, fame, SANJI, KaiRoN (Spirit Academy), fame, etc... Who knows, maybe even make it to one major.

K23 won’t sell any of their players lul, they have built a legit young roster in order to develop themselves and they are about to sneak into t1.5-1 scene already + spirit basically t2-3 org in csgo, they don’t have any partnership with big TOs
