Astralis advance to ESL Pro League quarter-finals over Entropiq

The Danish team took a tightly-contested 2-1 in their first ESL Pro League playoff series.

Astralis continue their campaign at ESL Pro League with a solid win versus opponents Entropiq. Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander and his squad pulled off a hard-fought 2-1 victory taking their map pick of Nuke 16-14, dropping Vertigo 15-19, and finally securing Overpass 16-14. The win sends them to a quarter-finals matchup against FURIA, who topped Group B.

The Danes have had a rocky start to the year, finishing only 7th-9th at Blast Premier Spring Groups 2022 and 7th-8th at IEM Katowice. For Pro league, they brought on Asger "Farlig" Jensen, their newly-signed AWPer in hopes of changing their fortunes moving forward, and are now in position to achieve their highest Big Event finish of the year so far.

On the other side of the coin, Aleksei "NickelBack" Trofimov's squad end their EPL journey in the first round of the playoffs, having shown their worth in all three maps against Astralis and during their group stage matches by finishing second in Group A, clinching remarkable victories against Looking For Org, MOUZ, fnatic, and G2, with their only defeat coming at the hands of eventual group winners, Ninjas in Pyjamas.

Both gla1ve and Xyp9x look to win their fourth EPL trophy for Astralis

Nuke was the map to kick off the series, and Entropiq secured the first pistol round as the defenders with the two teams keeping the score close early on at 3-3. NickelBack's crew were able to pull away from their Danish rivals by securing important kills and site retakes, finding themselves up by halftime, 9-6.

Entropiq began the second half strong, winning the first three out of four rounds played which increased their lead to 12-7. Astralis then began to assert their dominance and mounted a successful comeback, sealing the map 16-14 and taking a 1-0 series advantage despite Igor "Forester" Bezotecheskiy's 30-kill performance for Entropiq.

Vertigo kicked off in Astralis' favor after a quad-kill on the pistol from Benjamin "blameF" Bremer and a successful second round gave them a 2-0 score. Although Entropiq established a lead early, Astralis rallied and secured the last five rounds in a row to enter the half with a narrow 8-7 advantage over their CIS-region rivals.

Since his signing, k0nfig has been one of Astralis' best fraggers

After swapping sides, both teams won three straight rounds each to bring the score dead even at 10-10. Fighting for their tournament lives, Entropiq attained a 15-11 lead, giving them four map points. Astralis then forced overtime, which lasted only four rounds as Forester helpd his side made quick work of the Danes to send the series to a third and final map.

Astralis opened Overpass in dominant fashion, winning five out of the first six rounds, only dropping the pistol. Entropiq at times were able to pull rounds together however the teamwork from their Danish opponents, especially from Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth and gla1ve, proved to be too overwhelming as they trailed 5-10 at halftime.

Overpass resumed and immediately saw a recovery from Entropiq, winning five consecutive rounds after losing the first two. Aleksei "El1an" Gusev's proficiency with the AWP enabled his team to chip away at Astralis' lead, eventually reaching a 13-13 score, both teams once again on level footing. But Astralis ultimately took the match 16-14 and the series 2-1 after resisting everything Entropiq threw at them in the final rounds.

Astralis can go to the semis as their CT side is amazing but if they don't improve their T-side it would be really hard against Furia. Why is Xyp9x the hard entry and gla1ve a lurk??

It would have been bait, if it's because you see it in every thread ever. Bait isn't funny or creative if it's just a copy line. Also giga cope on your side that BlameF isn't constantly bombarded for him baiting.

i don't see that AWP improvement here , the only thing that makes farlig better than lucky is his t1 experience , lucky was better with every weapon if we compare him with farlig , he just need more experience , yes farlig is fragging but as i sad that's only cus he has t1 experience . but if we look at raw AWP skill i don't see improvement here , also they are better now cus konfig is playing a lot better than previous months :)

Another factor is that Lucky had the questionable "pleasure" of replacing dev1ce on top of all the roster chaos they wen't trough. Farlig is replacing Lucky in times when the team as such looks like they begin to find their footing in top10. If they can improve even further is hard to tell, but I guess more and more "Gla1ve-stuff" will become routine the coming months. Time will tell.

My comment above had nothing to do with "reading statistics". Farlig entered the team in "calmer times" and therefore can perform better. Lucky wasn't ready for the step up with the "big boyz".

Don’t find excuses for lucky. He had months of time with them so yes at first it was hectic times but not later and still he didn’t perform even months later. Farlig simply is better suited for this team

Only 8 teams left: Many teams we all expected to see here are already out. In this field that's quite an accomplishment in itself. Furia is probably way too strong atm, as you mention, but so far, so good: They will only get stronger the coming months, when more "Gla1ve-stuff" become routine. Finally - after two years - there is a TEAM in the making.

That was a messy game for both teams, they both made a lot of mistakes, they lost a lot of rounds that they should've won, it almost feels like nor Astralis nor Entropiq deserved the W here, I think it will be really hard for Astralis to go past FURIA with the game they played today, I'm really sceptical, I think long term this Astralis lineup might finally start to work, but I don't think it's that time yet. For Entropiq, I think they're at their peak, this is not a roster that can reach TOP 5 for me, they either have to be happy with what they have now or make changes because this is as far as you can get with this 5-man lineup. GL moving forward.

Great match to watch, Entropiq and Astralis both deserved to win, Astralis just edged out on the end, leaving Entropiq disillusioned after putting up one hell of a fight. The nice thing for Entropiq is that they have lots of room to grow and post better results in the future. They have been performing better and better during the last year and now they can give top teams a run for their money. Hopefully they keep the good work up and finally get into a final and even win a big tournament. I am a long time Astralis fan, but I enjoyed the way Entropiq put up a great fight, hope to see more good matches from them this year!
