BERRY to step in for Staehr at Europe RMR

The 17-year-old will sit out the beginning of the Major-qualifying event after falling ill.

Sprout have announced that Victor "⁠Staehr⁠" Staehr has fallen ill and that he will not attend the second European Regional Major Ranking event until he makes a full recovery.

The coach, Danny "⁠BERRY⁠" Krüger, will take the 17-year-old's place on the server as the team's official substitute. According to the official Major rulebook, Sprout are allowed to make a one-time substitution and swap back to Staehr as the originally listed player.

Having competed in the Danish sub-top scene for over a decade, 32-year-old veteran BERRY was still an active player until late 2021, when he made the transition to the coaching role in Sprout. He will step back onto the server for the first time since December, when he stood in for Rasmus "⁠raalz⁠" Steensborg against BLINK in the ESEA Premier S39 regular season.

In their opening match of the second European Regional Major Ranking tournament, Sprout are set to face Copenhagen Flames on Thursday at 14:45 , before they play their second match later that day.

The loss of Staehr will come as a big blow to their chances of qualifying for the Major, as Sprout were already among the underdogs, currently ranked 36th in the world following their winless run in ESL Pro League Season 15. They need three wins in the Swiss stage to qualify for PGL Major Antwerp.
