EG in talks to create two academy teams - Report

The North American organization could have up to 15 players on the payroll in the near future.

Evil Geniuses are in the final stages of creating a new academy division which could in the future include two different teams, Monday reports from Jaxon and Dust2.us claim.

According to both reports, the North American organization is interested in signing Carpe Diem and Party Astronauts, two lineups who compete without financial backing at the moment, and it has begun talks with both parties.

Neither team has inked a deal yet, as Carpe Diem appear to be significantly further in the process, while talks between EG and Jonathan "⁠Jonji⁠" Carey's team are in their infancy and unlikely to come to fruition soon, Dust2.us' report says.

Carpe Diem could become one of EG's two academy teams

Reports of Evil Geniuses' interest in expanding their CS:GO division come after the main team around Jake "⁠Stewie2K⁠" Yip failed to provide results expected of the high-profile organization.

Following the additions of the Major-winning trio in the former Liquid leader as well as Timothy "⁠autimatic⁠" Ta and William "⁠RUSH⁠" Wierzba at the beginning of 2022, the team has yet to find success, picking up zero wins across their BLAST Premier Spring and ESL Pro League Season 15 appearances and failing to qualify for either PGL Major Antwerp, IEM Dallas, or the BLAST Finals, which leaves their calendar empty for the rest of the season.

The prospect of an academy roster seems to be the organization's response to the main team's disappointing results. However, housing three different teams could cause a number of conflict of interest issues for Evil Geniuses due to ESL, which hosts a large part of the circuit in North America, having a firm stance against organizations fielding multiple teams in one competition.

Why would you ever want any team to disband or a region? That would just mean less cs to watch. Less teams = less exposure meaning dying game. If anything we want more teams and more regions to join in and play. Sometimes teams just don’t work out but it gives others a chance. If anything this is really good, it keeps two teams in the mix with their players and gets them paid to stay playing.

Looking back at it, you are right. Synergy would get extremely fcked and having two academies may not really be the best idea since both PA and carpe are in about the same level. For that reason, I believe a merger of PA and cirrent EG with the roster I mentioned + carpe as an academy team would be the far better option

They sign the team to make changes on the long run and give an established team a chance to build something. Of course they are old and its pretty obvious the team wont be the same the next year, but you can't go and sign anyone and hope to build a team, you need a team first and then you make the change one at the time. How many times have we seen players making random teams, asking for orgs and actually staying together more than a year? That doesnt happens a lot. You need a core of experienced player with enough resources to let them build something. Even thought they are old, they never had that opportunity. It's the first time they can actually play 24/7. We will quickly see what's need to be fixed. Also, do not forget that EG is by now the first org in NA to try that, so they can't go all in on a blind bet, they need some stability to show that it can be done.

Their main roster is a disaster, why bother having academy teams when they can't manage a main? But seriously -autimatic...to trade to Liquid for shox and save poor Tim from this trash fire, he deserves better and would give Liquid more consistency than shox does.
