Heroic confirm jabbi as new fifth player

The former Copenhagen Flames member comes in to replace Ismail "⁠refrezh⁠" Ali.

HEROIC have confirmed the rumored signing of 18-year-old rifler and ex-Copenhagen Flames player Jakob "⁠jabbi⁠" Nygaard to their CS:GO roster.

The newest member effectively replaces refrezh in the Danish team after the 24-year-old was removed from the active lineup on Saturday, with the organization explaining the move by stating that the team has "struggled to take the final step" during the last year, being unable to clinch a big-event title since competition returned to LAN.

With Tuesday's announcement, the organization added that it is "willing to risk something very good at the chance to become the very best."

With the addition of jabbi, HEROIC will be hoping to find the extra firepower needed to take them over that hump. He had been playing with Copenhagen Flames for nearly two years and in the same lineup for almost exactly a year, during which time he averaged a 1.08 rating.

At 18 years old, the new addition has experience beyond his years, having attended the last two Majors with the Flames and reaching the playoffs at the latest at PGL Major Antwerp this May.

“I am delighted to join Heroic. It is a huge opportunity for me to become a part of this team," jabbi said in a statement on Heroic's website. "It is a team that plays exciting CS while consistently being in the top 5. I am looking forward to proving myself and showing that I can help take Heroic even further."

“With Jakob, we are getting one of the most promising young players in Denmark. He is 18 years old and has already performed at two CS:GO Majors. He is very mature for his age, communicates well, and he can aim," Heroic's Head of Esports Operations, Oliver Valsgaard, added.

"Jakob has a great attitude towards hard work and is constantly looking to improve himself. We are super excited to have him on board, and we believe he is the missing piece towards making us consistently contend for the biggest trophies."

Having already started their preparations at a bootcamp, HEROIC's new lineup will make its debut at IEM Cologne. The Danish squad will start the event from the Play-in stage on July 5 and will be one of the favorites to advance to the main event, facing a wide variety of opposition ranging from teams such as Vitality, Spirit, and BIG to the likes of ORDER and TYLOO.
