WePlay Academy League Season 5 announced

The Academy League returns with another $100,000 online tournament.

Ukrainian tournament organizer WePlay has officially announced the fifth season of their Academy League. The new edition of the junior competition will run between July 25 and August 14, filling the Counter-Strike void left by the summer tournament break.

All the teams from Season 4 will make their return alongside the newly announced ENCE Academy squad, bringing the tally of squads attending up to 14. All teams will be looking to end MOUZ NXT's dominance in the academy circuit following their victory in all four previous events.

WePlay Academy League returns for its fifth edition

Season 5 will follow the format used by the last tournament, with the teams divided into two round-robin groups from which only the top-placed squads will advance directly to the playoffs. From there, 2nd-4th placed teams will compete in two gauntlet-style, single-elimination brackets, with the last two remaining survivors going to the final stage.

The four qualified teams will then battle it out in a double-elimination, best-of-three bracket all the way to the grand final where the champions will be crowned, taking home a total of $45,000.

The schedule will be:

Group Stage: July 25 – August 7 (Tiebreakers resolved on August 8)

Gauntlet Stage: August 9–10

Playoff Stage: August 12–14

Similar to Seasons 3 and 4, the upcoming tournament will be held online in Europe. Fans of the junior circuit will see the debut of ENCE Academy as well as the new rosters of Young Ninjas and PROSPECTS.

Yea inexcusable not to have their young roster in this. No reason whatsoever, literally costing their players weeks of EU practice This is what I was afraid of. They would put some players on some medium salaries, say they are saving NA, then just keep them in NA and not actually progress them as players

Gotta agree with many here that EG should have put 1 of their teams in this league. Good practice in EU for young talents. Develop some guys for the main squad long term, some publicity and surely lots of interest of NA fans. Win win.

This is why NA Csgo will never develop or grow at all. No academy teams at all, Liquid or EG or Col. They all are orgs that can have academy teams and they choose not to and then sit there wondering why we don't have fucking growth in the scene.

Thats what I dont get cuz C9 talked like they would like to help the scene but doesnt do it with such opportunities. Plus its relatively cheap to get publicity and next generation players. Especially marketing is sth. NA teams historically are big in, but they seem to fail here massively.
