NIP sign Aleksib; Plopski benched

Adding a third nationality to the team with the signing of Aleksi "⁠Aleksib⁠" Virolainen, Ninjas in Pyjamas are set to transition into English communication.

Aleksib has signed with Ninjas in Pyjamas, the Swedish organization has announced. Nicolas "⁠Plopski⁠" Gonzalez Zamora has been benched from the team to make room for the new addition. The 25-year-old was allowed to explore his options by G2 at the beginning of the summer break in mid-July, and he was benched the following month after Rasmus "⁠HooXi⁠" Nielsen took his place on the team.

The Finnish in-game leader is now set to take over the reins in Ninjas in Pyjamas from Hampus "⁠hampus⁠" Poser and the team's communication will from now on be in English, NIP COO Jonas "⁠calc⁠" Gundersen revealed in a statement.

Gundersen further added that the change was made after the team showed "signs of stagnation." Despite being one of the more consistent teams when it comes to making it deep at the biggest events, Ninjas in Pyjamas have repeatedly fallen short of their goals of clinching a big title.

The Swedish-Danish mixture most recently suffered their toughest exit in months, placing fifth in Group A of ESL Pro League following an atrocious start to the round robin stage that saw NIP go 0-6 in maps across the series. During the tournament, Fredrik "⁠REZ⁠" Sterner was seen taking over primary AWPing, a role he will transition into full-time moving forward, HLTV.org has learned.

"When there's signs of stagnation, new energy might be needed to keep progressing and we think the timing is right to make a larger change than usual; bringing on Aleksib as IGL and moving our communication to English," Gundersen said.

The move comes just in time for the roster lock for the upcoming Regional Major Ranking event, where Ninjas in Pyjamas will fight for a place at the IEM Rio Major. Aleksib will make his debut with the team at the event taking place in Malta from October 4-9, in a group featuring the likes of FaZe, Cloud9, G2, and Astralis.

Honestly if they are going this crazy Rez,hampus,phzy, brollan, LNZ/krimz would of made the most sense. Cheap full swedish young with old exp and competitive probably more competitive then this roster now. Sure. You are writing: "krimz would of made the most sense" which means "krimz zou van het meest logisch gemaakt" (sorry if there is mistranslation, I googled it). You are writing "of" instead of "have", because the contraction of "would have" is "would've". It sounds like "would of". It's probably because you learned English through audio instead of through text. Just be aware, a lot of people are doing this mistake.

It's possible but aleksib doesn't really AWP all that much in comparison to REZ or Es3tag, who will most likely be double-AWP duty on the team now. Brollan should stay with rifles and hampus should now play a closer/second-entry role alongside Brollan for a nice dynamic duo kind of thing. hampus and Brollan are NiP's best fraggers, so if this team is to work, they would both need to be carrying NiP alongside Es3tag's support, REZ's entries and aleksib calling rounds.

I believe this can only be good because device isnt coming back for a while and nip need to try changing it up. so that hampus can gain some igl experience from AleksiB. when device gets back - AleskiB and hampus back to igl role. I always believed - plopski should get cut somewhere but i doubt this move a lot . specially if they need to sacrifice speaking swedish for this then its defiantly not worth it.

Swedish is second official language in Finland and is compulsory language to learn in Finnish schools. Finnish speakers generally don’t learn Swedish well but if they live in a bilingual area or have a job where Swedish is required they might know it pretty well but it doesn’t look like that’s the case.

g2 fans just love to hate aleksi for no reason. no igl in the world could make g2 top1, just accept it. niko isnt a winner and thats just a fact. m0nesy has a big potential, but he needs to develop. NIP did the right move, now finally they have a proper igl. Its actually a bad move for aleksi cuz this team has no future. There is no real firepower except rez, but he is too inconsistent, Id like to see brolan's performance under aleksi, but i dont really see a big potential. es3tag is the next one to go, together with hampus, they are not t1 players. Nip's only option is to get 2 new talents and improve them for the next year, then try for trophies. A sh*t, but still a better option could be to get f0rest instead of es3tag, just to be more competitive.

People seem to think that things are always Black or White. Obviously NIP have pinpointed the AWP issue, but at the same time, if you have a player like REZ, who black on white can AWP but need some time to adjust and find his own way in it. If you at the same time have an IGL who is stuck with no new ideas, no motivation to find new ideas and at the same tuime sits on an unbelievable firepower if only it gets released (Hampus), then suddenly you MIGHT have a solution to your problem. REZ maybe solves the AWP issue Hampus maybe solves the Firepower downgrade with REZ awning Suddenly you need an IGL =) It is so damn easy to scream on this site that changes are bad and what not when you only see whatever you want to see. Open your eyes instead an try to think from another perspective. If they get those pieces to work by changing only the IGL at a fair price... Why not try it, because they are pretty stuck as it is now. Thanks to AleksiB, m0nesy got micromanaged faster into Tier 1 than if niKo or whatever Hunter would have done it. They just focus mainly on them selves to be honest and should do. Wihout AleksiB, m0nesy would still learn angles for tier 1!

Great move from NIP, they defienietly needed a better IGL, and also Plopski was quite underwhelming aswell, I doubt this move alone can make them a trophy contender team, but I defienietly see it as an upgrade and a step in the right direction.

I'm so confused.. Plopski pretty much always did the work he was brought in to do and they bench him and pick up another IGL so now hampus is left with what? And what about Brollan? He left fnatic because he didn't want to play with an international team and now NIP went international anyway. Or does Aleksib speak swedish? I feel like NIP make it way too complicated. REZ who is a great rifler takes on the AWP and es3tag who was supposed to pick up the AWP took the role as a decent rifler instead. They really need to sit down and talk about what they want to do with this team because this feels super weird.

Why did NIP choose Aleksib? Let Uncle explain: NIP understands that there are not enough good players in Sweden to become a TOP-1 team so the only option is to become an international team like ENCE for example. Aleksib has experience in managing two international teams so Aleksib can teach the team international comms etc. When NIP is good enough to play speaking English and there is a better IGL available on the market Aleksib will be benched. Then they buy a better IGL and a better AWP player if one is available.
