Kinguin Legends tournament featuring NEO, f0rest & more set to start

Kinguin has announced the hosting of an online Legends tournament that will run from September 13-18. The ~$50,000 event features six teams made up of some of Counter-Strike's biggest names, such as Jarosław "⁠pashaBiceps⁠" Jarząbkowski and Kenny "⁠kennyS⁠" Schrub, who will hop into the server as the game rolls back the years.

Accompanying the event is another HLTV Fantasy game. The HLTV x Roobet Fantasy game will offer skin prizes to players who finish within the top three, though the event will not count towards the Fall season leaderboard.

NEO has called up f0rest, friberg, and olofmeister to round out his ranks

The six-team event will kick off with a round robin, best-of-one group stage, with the top four teams moving forward to the playoffs. From there, the games will transition into best-of-three series starting on Saturday at 13:00 , with the grand finals being played out a day later on Sunday at 15:00 .

pashaBiceps has opted to enlist the support of his former Virtus.pro teammates to round out his roster, bringing on Janusz "⁠Snax⁠" Pogorzelski and Paweł "⁠byali⁠" Bieliński with whom he won the EMS One Katowice Major back in 2014.

NEO, on the other hand, has played his cards more tactically, recruiting the services of the former Dignitas duo of Patrik "⁠f0rest⁠" Lindberg and Adam "⁠friberg⁠" Friberg, alongside Olof "⁠olofmeister⁠" Kajbjer and tudsoN.

The team list for the Kinguin Legends is as follows:

KennyS has built an AWP heavy squad with smooya and NaToSaphiX as his teammates

The HLTV x Roobet Fantasy game will get started on Wednesday to allow more players to sign up. Also of note is that members of HeatoN's Team will be unable to be picked for the duration of the tournament.

f0rest currently leads the way as the most-picked player, with the Swede having a rather affordable $208,000 price tag. Those in need of an AWPer could also turn their attention to the second-most picked player, pashaBiceps, who only sets you back $183,000.

The HLTV x Roobet Fantasy game will have the following prizes:

1. Moto Gloves | 3rd Commando Company (Battle-Scarred)
2. AWP | Asiimov (Battle-Scarred)
3. AK-47 | Vulcan (Battle-Scarred)

Dude I’ve been here since 1.3… I get it. Heaton won a couple cpl’s and used to spray guys down with an AK like nobody else at that time. If you even try to compare a hilight reel of Heaton with a guy like F0rest you are going to see a clear difference in skill. Heaton dropped off the map after like 3 or 4 cpl tournaments in cs 1.6. Forest and neo were far beyond that in their prime. The eswc tournaments they competed in were stacked compared to that. Neo carried his team to win eswc vs far more skilled opponents. And if you’re gonna call any of those SK guys a legend. It would be spawN. Definitely not Heaton

Yes I can see you came late to the party, by the time you started playing CS, then however long it took you to get interested in the pro scene HeatoN was already past his prime. HeatoN was the hard carry for the best team in the world and has the championships to back it up. SpawN hadnt even got out of semi pro Swedish teams when HeatoN was MVPing T1 events. Those 2 played in the same team later but they are almost from different era's. Do you think the game wasnt buggy as hell in the early days of CS? Every update the hitboxes got cleaner and cleaner. Dont compare old frag footage to new frag footage and dont compare HeatoN to f0rest and NEo, they played different games in different era's. Think about how buggy CS:GO was in the first couple of years.

Dude Heaton was a top fragger when interp was still an issue in the game. Neo had a way better cs career as a whole. And carried way harder against way better competition. Also he was able to do it when csgo came out too. Look at the length of neo’s professional career and try to tell me Heaton is more of a legend.

I hope this generates enough interest to make way for a more permanent legends/masters/"veteran" division or age group of competitive CSGO, similarly to those of some other sports (some fight sports and triathlons come to mind first). People want to see legends clash, not just slowly deteriorate and retire. I could easily see myself being excited about a k-30 or k-35 competitions embedded within the bigger tournaments. If we have constant tier 2 and tier 3 CS available, why not also have some s-tier veteran CS. I think the whole ecosystem would benefit.
